The Verbier concert was special in that Malofeev ‘dared’ to come out of his shell even more than usual. By the way: the ‘Russian piano school’ has always produced the most outstanding pianists. And I repeat what I have already commented on before:
Alexander Malofeev is the epitome of what a concert pianist should be. Utterly brilliant, of course. Technically faultless - certainly. Stunning subtle control of everything, dynamic , colours, rubato, phrasing. But he also has a warmth and humanity with which he makes a deep, emotional connection with those listening.

It’s a little over five years since I discovered Alexander thanks to RUclips. The Rach 3 came up as a recommendation. I ignored it the first couple of times. Then I gave in and thought, OK this kid can have five minutes, then I’ll move on. Of course I listened to the whole concerto. It seemed disrespectful not to as you could feel a heart and soul in the playing. I can multiply that five minutes a least a thousand fold now and I have seen Alexander live several times now. I can’t begin to tell you the pleasure and joy he has brought to me.

I came across Alexander Malofeev many years ago when he was, I think, 12 or so, and he played extremely difficult repertoire with incredible technique, where within a minute, you knew this kid was special. He was already performing for Heads of States around this age. I also remember seeing a video where as a child, he gave a special concert for chess players (might have been a Chess Olympiad). I'd put Malofeev as one of the two best prodigies I have seen for this generation, with Yunchan Lim being the other.

Every serious prof. Pianist with a heart full of music, plays with the emotions with which the composer composed a piece and with the emotions that he/she personally feels for it. That is also the beauty of your performances. And I usually recognize your touch and I admire you Sasha. 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷-->(your quiet, secret and very old friend in Amsterdam and her grandsons.

@@Living-the-Creative-Life Thank you so much for your comment. My problem is a brain chemistry issue and somewhat psychological as well. Seratonin and dopamine are focus hormones otherwise frontal lobe focus is impossible! Everyone differs here as studies in neuro-pscholgy have proven. Use up the supply here and you become a baby infant once again. Try to will power resist to force focus and another hormone is quickly secreted to sabotage you. I dealt all my life with mind meanderings since childhood whereas I couldn't keep my mind on the task more than an hour or so. It wandered on its own. The stress of practicing really had nothing to with the fingers a LA keyboard or the feet on the pedal board, but the struggle with mind focus and getting it to behave for me. I hated this psychological warfare and mind torture I had to try and endure. I got into heavy sports and found survival here was easier. To a degree of course. Practicing anything must become a joy of the soul or heart as it is purely only discovery and adventure in the beautiful serenity of the moment of TOTALITY and not perfection. Perfection always takes care of itself especially for the Malofeev prodigies I think. Nuf said. With this your platform, I feel it necessary of you to become more interested in the psychology behind practicing, looking through both eyeglasses of left/right brain analogies. It sheds a lot of light on this process and it's deeper functions as to why some can and other's can't.

@@Living-the-Creative-Life Well, things changed technologically since Hofmann. If Hofmann had his concerts go on television then broadcasted for 2 billions of people, and for his whole life, he would have worked much more. Then Richter always lied about his practicing, his wife revealed in Monsaingeon documentary, he said 2 hours, his wife told 8, every day.
Practicing time depends on how much you want to discover repertory. People like Argerich, who has barely 10 concertos in her repertory, don't need obviously to spend 10 hours. Other like Askenazi or Barenboim, who played almost everything, need a lot more. Not criticizing Argerich, she is a genius, but is factual, she plays always same things.

Fascinating points you make all around. Saving your info about brain chemistry to further explore on future episodes. About Richter-yes, for example when he toured China in 1957 he practiced 15 hours a day and had his piano tuned three times daily! Argerich-I spent some weeks with her in Lugano and witnessed how she practices-obsessively! She would start around 10pm and not stop until well after the sun came up. She was always at it and interested in asking everybody around her about practice tips. She loves to talk shop ✨

I like Alexander very much, very autentic young pianist, quite genius - with inner peace, so nice to see.... but the moderator is a bit annoying, quite in populistic style. Very unfortunate... youtube school 😢

What, in your view, is populistic and RUclips School about our style? We’ve been doing this for 15 years in a variety of different formats with illustrious guests, and our work has been praised in international press for doing it in what they call a sensitive and open-heart listening style that reveals insights of guests that do not happen elsewhere. We work hard and travel the world to bring you these stories for free. In addition, Sasha is a close friend of mine, and this is a portrait of how we have always interacted. Anyway, thank you for watching. -Zsolt Bognár, host and executive producer
