    That shot when Touro Light became a horizontal spinner for a moment and took K2's weapon out was a 1/10000 shot. That was awesome

    The disc was S7, around 50-52 Rc I believe. I had 3 full weapon assemblies made, I've broken enough discs to just expect it now.

    So my understanding of this is that both robots had their weaponry disabled and then it became a ramming contest, of which K2 did better?

    K2 won by judge's decision.

      Did your weapon motor fail after the blade broke, or did you decide not to run the weapon off balance?

    • @TeamVelocity
      @TeamVelocity  9 лет назад +6

      +Jackson Gray Decided not to run it. I couldn't get under him with the bot bouncing all over. It wouldn't have done anything but brush gently against him anyway once the tooth was gone.

      That GoPro view with the broken spinner was almost as shakey as a Jason Bourne fight.

    Question: In these kinds of tournaments, are magnets allowed?
    I can imagine a robot that'd use magnets to attach itself to the side of the opponent and then just use a drill or grinder...

      ***** That would be brutal, guess its not allowed.

      Steve Stevenson That would be sick, though

      Yes, magnets are allowed, but you would have to be able to disengage it remotely. Also you would have a hard time sticking to anything because bots are primarily aluminum and titanium, which are non-magnetic.

      Titanium ? are you sure ? We are talking about robot , not weapons !
      Titanium is very expensive ! Where do they find such money ??

    • @TeamVelocity
      @TeamVelocity  8 лет назад +6

      mo ha Sure I'm sure, I build these things don't I? K2 is mostly aluminum but the wedge is solid titanium. My 12 pound bot Apex has an entirely titanium frame. If you're curious what a bot is made of, just watch the sparks. Titanium sparks white, steel sparks orange, and aluminum doesn't spark at all.

    Is that the same "ballistic glass" the myth busters used for a long time? If so, they should consider some additional shielding. I would hate for someone to get hurt. The myth busters realized in one of the later seasons that a piece of debris had gone right through their "protective ballistic glass". Luckily it missed them. Something like that chunk of K2's blade that broke off probably has sufficient kinetic energy to penetrate the glass. With so many people in the audience chances of someone getting hit by it would be quite high. Disturbing thought I cannot get out of my head. I hope it never happens and that arena is perfectly safe.

      It’s polycarbonate plastic, 1” thick on the lower sections and 1/2” up high. No lightweight can come close to penetrating that. Safety is a big priority at RoboGames and there has never been any serious injuries. That being said there have been a few close calls with the heavyweight bots, see Whoops vs Touro Maximus for one example.

      Thank you very much for your prompt reply. That sounds very safe and has alleviated my concern.
      I have watched that Whoops vs Touro battle several times and shared it quite a bit. It was one of the sources of my worries. Quite the destructive and amazing battle. One of my all time favorites due to the carnage.
