I marshalled at the championships back in 2013/14, at that point at about 6.25. The speed of people coming down that section was frankly terrifying, either balls of steel, vno self-preservation instincts or just sheer talent!
Dibbidy dibbidy dibbidy do 🤣🤣 amazing videos. As an average dad mtb rider your videos are just what I need to prove you can tackle these tracks at your own speed 👍👍👍👍
Just seen your comment. Was sitting on my deck here in Auckland and rewatched the video. Oh how times have changed. I really want to get back to Scotland and give that track another go.
@@daveyboys5261 not sure about the full face. I had one and it would be a good idea. I use the Leatt enduro helmet. It is both a full face and half shell. Great for travelling as only need one helmet.
just loved your commentary.... I love running the DH track, was there in June this year.... took me 10 weeks for my busted ribs to heal.... and yer never to old.... I'm 62 and still chasing that adrenaline rush...... top video mate... and thanks for taking the time to record and post it up.... :-)
Thanks David. As you say your age is just a number. I hope to keep doing it for many years. Just back from Whistler so videos of that coming out over next few weeks.
I think I must be the oldest person to win a race on this track at 56 (now 62). It was at the endurance dh but 12 runs in 6 hours was not bad for an old fart.
@@bestdayevermtb2 Hope to have you back soon! But NZ must have great places to ride right?! My best friend is from NZ and cant wait to go visit him and ride
I must admit the holiday was quite an extravagance taking that much time off. Sometimes things happen in life which makes you realise that work isn't everything and you can't take your money with you!
@@bestdayevermtb2 how many weeks? I just got back from 6 weeks in Sweden but that doesn't count as that was staying with mother in law. Half holiday if that.
I know it is amazing. I watched this video again the other day and realized just how lame my riding was. Still awesome to say I have ridden the world cup track at Fort William. My wife is Scottish so hopefully will get to do it again one day.
I done that and compared it to the run I did at the weekend. I know Danny & his family very well and it still baffles me as to how quick the top WC riders really are!
Damn, what an amazing track, this makes you realize that wc racers are basically aliens. You shouldn't ride a track like that all alone, well at least i wouldn't!
I watched this then watched this: ruclips.net/video/1qdzhhccdPY/видео.html. OMG! Fair play Lance you are a better rider than me, but then see how fast Rachel Atherton goes on the same course it's insane! So scary.
I did watch Rachel's run. A few different line choices but other very similar riding.🤣🤣🤣 Funny story though, when I made this video I got a copyright claim from Redbull claiming I had used Gees pov footage. I disputed it and they said on this one occasion I could use the footage. So RUclips software can't tell me apart from Gee Atherton so I am taking that as a win.

I can only dream of riding that track now. If I leave NZ I can't get back in. I do plan to go back hopefully 2023.
Hi Witterquickly, I'd really love to marshal next year, how can I do it? Cheers, Soph

great video, brilliant to get the perspective of an average rider and really helped with line choice and skill needed.
Really want to go back when Covid allows. I get called average alot. I take it as a compliment.
Awesome video, nice to know you don’t have to be a pro to do this track
I am certainly not a pro. It is a surprising grippy track.
I’m going to have a go in august at52 .do you have to have a full face helmet bud ?great video keep it up

@@leedove7255 that sounds like a cool event. Arms and legs would be dead by the end of the day.
As a local who would never dream going down it , you've kinda convinced me
I really enjoyed it and would love to have another go in dry weather.. Not sure when that will be given the state of the world.
No shame for going around the river gap sometimes your better off safe than sorry and you made the right choice
Thanks for this, will try it in August! :D
I really want to have another go. Can't see me getting out of NZ for some time.

@@bestdayevermtb2 ok cool. Hard to tell length with the uploads. If you were saving them or just had lots. Italy or Scotland for best mt bike parks?
as a kiwi that lived in scotland - I loved that track
Would love to have spent more time there. Hopefully post covid may make it back again.
Watch the run Danny Hart done on this track to see how insanely fast he was
