The 2009 collectors box is not only canonically accurate to the history of how Andy dad would have bought woody but in toy story 2 all of the round up gang had that style of box. The prospector was stuck in his in the film and the others had theirs too
Although it does fit with the style of the rest of the Round Up gang style of boxing, I like the Disney store box more, its much taller and fits the profile of Woody better than the Collection box, not that its bad, but I just like how tall and slim the disney box is
Bruh the 1995 is fat dude normally if you look at the movie he wasn't even fat man well maybe I'm not sure if I'm gonna mod a toy story collection mr potato head and the 1995 woody has a very nice pull string ring because if you saw him in the movie it was that size and that's movie accurate
You forgot to mention the 2009 version could also glow in the dark for real. I had both original and new versions (along with several variants including grey armor, dark colors, and a variant of the 2009 with the anti gravity servo belt) and I was so much happier with the glow in the dark as that was one of the coolest features in the movie for me.
One thing that bothered me about *Thinkaway's Signature Collection* was that they released Woody, Jessie and Bullseye in the _Woody's Roundup packaging,_ but never made a *Stinky Pete* toy to truly complete the set. I would have liked a proper Prospector doll.
Had a 1995 Buzz also, the nostalgia is wild lmao. Mine had a motion alarm feature that you had to set with a button combo. It used to go off by itself sometimes and we were all convinced it was haunted lol
The detail that bothers me about the 2009 edition is the way the joints are cut on Buzz. The slots on the joints look weird, and it seems like 95 got those right, even if the range was more limited.
As a kid in 1995, I noticed that A: the toy Buzz was slightly larger than the one in the movie when compared to the other toys that already existed for scale and B: all the features he _didn't_ have (karate chop action and helmet fully retracting came to mind immediately).
I also have the 1995 woody, it was a gift from a friend that used to own it, he also gave me a utility belt buzz as well Edit: so I’ve been looking through my toys (yes I still have my toys, even some my brother gave me) and I couldn’t find the 1995 woody, but I did find the Zurg toy my brother gave me. It’s broken, but he has his looks from Buzz Lightyear of StarCommand. The only thing that broke off was the chest piece that has the Z on it.
What a throw back! I have these 1995 toys in the attic! I loved them!! My Buzz did have a wrist communicator, though, and he also had a 'fly mode' where if you held him at an angle his head would lift up and he would say things like "The wind my hair...Bugs in my teeth, yuck!" Then we had a Woody with a guitar that could play "You've Got A Friend In Me", and also a Woody and Jessie that could talk to each other! P.S. I think your 1995 voice box is broken, which has made it speed up which is why it sounds rushed and high pitched.
Fun fact: At the end of Toy Story 3 when Andy hands Buzz over to Bonnie and she pushes his voice button and he says “To Infinity... AND BEYOND!”... that was sampled from the 1995 Thinkway Buzz figure. Later versions of Buzz figures had much cleaner sounding voice boxes, but on the ‘95 figure it almost sounds like the speaker is straining when he says “...AND BEYOND!” Watch that scene again and make the ‘95 Buzz say that phrase after Bonnie does, it’ll blow your mind.
@@todayigrewup Buzz Lightyear's _"To Infinity and beyond"_ voice that you heard in Toy Story 3, didn't come from the 1995 Thinkway Buzz action figure. It was actually taken from when Buzz said the phrase himself in the original Toy Story movie from 1995, which was when the action figure was made.
The woody I had as a kid in the 90s didn’t have a wire skeleton and, to memory, had much better proportions, though it definitely had the same fat torso and voice box
24:20-44 There was only one Buzz Lightyear in Australia I could ever find for sale in mid 1997 in Kmart that had an opening and closing wrist communicater. In fact this one was even better then the movie one because inside it there were buttons you could press and hear more phrases. One example that I only had time to press once was "Buzz Lightyear to Star Command. Come in Star Command." A friend of mine once even said there was a silver one that had an opening and closing wrist communicater but the one I just mentioned with the buttons inside was the only one with an opening and closing wrist communicater I could ever find.
In terms of accuracy from the movies and the better looking packaging and models, the 2009 version looks way better and they really did improve on the size, and mobility of the toys. Looking at tge 1995 version, i would have bought it as a kid but now that im older, the 2009 ones are the superior toys even though many will say that the older ones are very valuable for collectors.

The reason why their faces look the way they do was because the designers at Thinkway were given concept renders of each character to base the toy on, which is why 95 Woody has a smile while 09 Woody has an open mouth. No idea why they didn't make the toys with the official toy mode expressions after the first movie, but I guess they considered it tradition after the first.
What disappoints me is that they have YET to release a movie accurate Woody. I've been seeing so many people restoring and/or creating their own movie accurate Woody dolls, and I'm just sitting here thinking "Why does Disney/PIXAR/Thinkway keep changing the facial expressions on Woody?? Why not make his face accurate to the movie: closed smile, eyes fully open, and go above and beyond and add the accurate details like pearl buttons, a properly laced hat, rope detailing on the vest, etc." They definitely improved on Buzz in 2009, significantly more accurate. However, the voice of 1995's Buzz is more accurate (even though both are Tim Allen). What boggles my mind is: Why don't they just take audio clips directly from the movie(s) and use them for the toys' catch phrases??? That way their phrases and sounds are movie accurate! Also...I agree, Buzz's helmet still doesn't do "that..th-th-that WHOOSH thing!", and still doesn't have any karate chop action! Does 2009 still glow in the dark? I know the '95 version does.

Oh yeah I'm gonna have to go with the 1995 Woody & Buzz, I've always been an absolute huge fan of the vintage Toy Story merchandise, although I've never been too impressed with the new stuff. What do you think?
Yeah the new stuff was good but obviously I want a movie accurate prop.. no one has made one I was ever really happy with, that’s why I made my own! Nothing beats childhood nostalgia that’s priceless so I understand your love for 1995 and vintage Toy Story.
Any of these would've been great when I was 7. I had Woody and Buzz as toys, but the Woody was plastic so that he could stand up, and the accordingly shorter Buzz was maybe 6 inches tall. The Woody had a "pointing finger draw" mechanism, but I'm not even sure if Buzz had any battery-operated stuff. They were still cool, and well-made to resemble their film versions. Anyway, thanks a bunch for showing the details! I used to wonder if those 1995 versions, that Hanks and Allen hold in one promo interview, were promotional items, limited collector's editions or actually found on shelves. I certainly never saw them in Finland, and it would have been very unusual to have that big and expensive "action figures." I think "Street Sharks" were the most expensive action figures at the time, not counting Action Man, who was more like a Ken doll.
Just subscribed, I watched toy story 2 back in the day on VHS. Now I got all the films on blu-ray. Can't wait to get lightyear on 4k as well. Great video! To infinity and beyond Lasseter: we can do better 💀
Not everything It's about movie accuracy it's about being a child and plain and Enjoying your toys. And having an active imagination. That's what makes it a toy and fun
‘09 laser sound is the sound it would make when he’d use it as a laser pointer. The ‘95 Buzz laser sounds like the way it did in the first film when he “fired” it at Sid’s mutant toys after Woody hid behind him and he told him to “shield his eyes”. Seriously that was the only time in the entire franchise that his laser made that sound. So honestly I don’t mind either.🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
I agree it’s fun to look back and forward in time to see what was done or changed. The retro toys will always be a huge part of history and a permanent staple for many peoples childhoods. We can always appreciate that.
Man I haven’t seen that toy in at least 18 years- All the memories are faint pictures I remember the “laser” the most just on how often I would feel it with my fingers, and the single finger moving like a fidget toy
@@todayigrewup yeah haha I have another question for you I was thinking about getting some accurate toy story collectibles where’s the best place to get them
Back in 1995, I was 12 and I remember using my pocket money my parents gave to buy both those Woody and Buzz toys for myself. What I didn't like about the old Woody toy was it wasn't floppy like the one in the movie. Even though both Woody and Buzz were the best ones available at the time, I know they weren't exactly film accurate. How time flies. Now I have the 2009 Toy Story Collection ones that I got when it was first released and boy are they awesome. Though they are still not 100% film accurate, but they are tons better and closer to the one from the film. By the way the laser sound on the 2009 Buzz was heard in the first movie a couple of times, namely on the bed when Woody first greeted Buzz and then later on at Sid's house. The sound is more like a targeting or setting sound I believe. The 2009 Buzz should've included the 1995 laser sound in it as well to reflect how the toy Buzz laser feature was in the film.
2009 Buzz’s laser sounds more like when the laser is scanning the area and not really when he is going to use it to “stun” or “kill”. Maybe if they had used the original laser sound from the movie in the 2009 model and then have it do the scanning sound of the laser if you hold it down, it could have worked better?
I just realised I own 2009 Glow-in-the-dark Buzz, Jessie and Woody! Woody’s got some crayon markings on him, Buzz has them to a lesser degree, but his battery comportment is corroded and the back of his wing compartment is missing, and Jessie.. worst crayon marks.
4:15 Unfortunately I don't think they will ever have a wired Woody doll ever again. the reason they stopped doing the wire thing was because of a safety reasons because if the toy is played with enough and gets ripped then those metal wires will stick out and cut someone
I remember having one of the 2009 Woody but it came in a box like the 1995 one. Also the hat was more similar to the 1995 hat, it didn't have the actual thread around the brim
My current woody is the “lots o laughs” woody which has the same pullstring feature, but also has a feature where if you do something to the gut area, woody laughs. I recommend having him on the play setting as you get all phrases and randomized compared to 5 on try me
What I mean by all phrases and randomized, is that there’s more phrases you hear on play, compared to the five you hear on try me Edit: on try me, the five phrases repeat after the fifth one, no randomness meaning you’ll know which one is next
You know how weird it’s going to be when Disney makes the movie of the actor that plays buzz in the movie while making a toy of the movie buzz that’s playing the movie buzz in the movie.
Watch how I take off the collection head in this video ruclips.net/video/pf-cqttP6xU/видео.html and then watch how I take out and swap the voice box in this video here ruclips.net/video/lszRgWZN_B0/видео.html
I remembered that my 95 buzz used to glow in the dark like the movie. I got very frustrated when I bought the new one and it had that awful laser sound and it doesn’t light on the dark
I personally love the fact how they didn’t add the wiring on the legs on the 09 woody. Because it gives it that authentic og woody vibes like the movie and how you have it on a stand. Just legit. I love the way they made the 09 woody. But for some reason when I was a kid. Around 99. I felt like I had the 09 woody type of style.
I’m reviewing a wave 1 model of 1995 Woody in this video which is pose-able with wires it’s more rare! Later versions of 1995 Woody got rid of the wires and the spurs for whatever reason maybe for safety reasons or to save cost etc. so many had that 1995 Woody without wires!
I hope the toy story 5 woody’s will look movie accurate but I doubt that I really hope they don’t give us printed on ones like they did in toy story four🤞🏽
I didn’t mess up… you just don’t know the truth, here is proof that Tom Hanks does NOT voice the toys, his brother Jim does: ruclips.net/video/j3dNFroPKss/видео.html
18:27 I think the signature had the movie accurate green color. I think, I'm not sure. He looks like he does. I always look at my signature collection buzz with awful condition, and think it's the movie color. And I don't know why they went back with that. It doesn't make sense at all.
Great review! Love the ‘95 wave and bought a new, original Buzz today for nostalgia. Curious what your thoughts are on the ‘09 CS Buzz Lightyears going for $300+ now on eBay and if you think we’ll get a similar $50-60 MSRP movie-accurate wave of Toy Story figures again soon? -potentially promo merchandise for “Lightyear” (2022)?
You forgot that in 2019 for the release of Toy Story 4 signature collection Buzz and Woody and Jessie came back to target with an MSRP of $89.99 the days of $50-60 got left behind in 2011… outside the movie promotion windows when the movies are out, stores no longer carry signature collection. That is why signature collection toys are so high now on eBay. Mattel has picked up the license for the new Lightyear movie but they are cheaper quality toys.. and cost about $50. Sadly I hear thinkway toys no longer has the Toy Story license but that could change if they make a Toy Story 5, you never know!
Back in the days of 2013 , thinkway toys made this woody doll that looks like the toy story collection doll but you can bend the arm and legs but unfortunately, there was no pull string 😖😖😖😖😩😩😩😩
I have the Toy Story Collection Woody and Buzz Lightyear. I got both in 2010. Even though these are almost 13 years old they still hold up and will always be classics to me. I do wish Woody had a closed mouth and a smaller pull string ring but overall they’re pretty great. I know some people are really against the idea of a Toy Story 5 but since Toys R Us is back in America within all Macy’s department stores, hopefully they’ll bring back the Toy Story collection series as Target did with Toy Story 4. If this is the case I’m definitely getting another Woody and Buzz Lightyear to keep in the box because those are extremely expensive on eBay now.
1995 laser sound is more movie accurate. ThinkWay Toys definitely did not do better on the 2009 version in that regard. What kinda ticks me off if this is the case, is that I’m sure Disney would have given Think Way Toys access to the sound files from the first Toy Story for Buzz’s laser for the 2009 version if Think Way Toys had bothered to ask-that’s assuming they didn’t ask.
I don’t know which ones I had as a kid, my Woody was like a ragdoll, my Buzz had the opening communicator, and both had Andy on the bottom. Maybe toy story 2?

I think "Street Sharks" were the most expensive action figures at the time, not counting Action Man, who was more like a Ken doll.
You’re very welcome partner 🤠 I love street sharks also!
Just subscribed, I watched toy story 2 back in the day on VHS. Now I got all the films on blu-ray. Can't wait to get lightyear on 4k as well. Great video! To infinity and beyond
Lasseter: we can do better 💀
That’s awesome thanks for watching
me and my little brother watch toy story 1 and 2 on VHS to this day
You’re awesome, I love your channel!
Thank you for the support partner 🤠
Great explanation!!! Love it
the 1995 ones have a lot more soul in them
They definitely have their own nostalgic charm
Woody lost weight , buzz got a little taller
True haha 😂
I get why it isn’t included but I really feel he should have a gun, we don’t see it in the movie but I thought it was because Andy lost it
Yeah that’s true
I really love the look of the 1995 Woody, but all of them are amazing in their own ways
I agree it’s fun to look back and forward in time to see what was done or changed. The retro toys will always be a huge part of history and a permanent staple for many peoples childhoods. We can always appreciate that.
Are Burnley sing these toys and a book and I really really wanted them but I couldn't get it the 2009 version
Man I haven’t seen that toy in at least 18 years-
All the memories are faint pictures I remember the “laser” the most just on how often I would feel it with my fingers, and the single finger moving like a fidget toy
Childhood nostalgia goodness
Jim hanks ??
Tom Hanks does not voice the toys, his brother Jim Hanks does, here is the video proof: ruclips.net/video/j3dNFroPKss/видео.html
@@todayigrewup I don’t need proof but I did not know that it sounds a lot like him
It’s ok just really trying to help inform. I get this question so much, daily for months, that I usually copy and paste this response lol
@@todayigrewup yeah haha I have another question for you I was thinking about getting some accurate toy story collectibles where’s the best place to get them
I still have the one from 1995! It was my favorite. I even wrote Andy on the boot lol
So cool 😎
I put my name on my sister’s Woody when she handed him down
There is also another woody like that but he has no Spurs and he his a rag doll
Yes I have seen that one before!
Very cool thanks for sharing your “toy story” with us. Love to hear how these toys have represented us in both childhood and now adulthood. 🤠
I have the 2009 Woody and I love him
I love your old buzz Lightyear
The ultimate toy story collection flex 😂
I am just going for childhood memories and nostalgia and Toy Story is my passion as you can tell lol
@@todayigrewup yeah that’s awesome man
WOW the 1995 hands were mind-blowing! :o
Yeah super cool
2009 Buzz’s laser sounds more like when the laser is scanning the area and not really when he is going to use it to “stun” or “kill”. Maybe if they had used the original laser sound from the movie in the 2009 model and then have it do the scanning sound of the laser if you hold it down, it could have worked better?
Yeah good point. The sound should of been taken from the movie.
9:07 “ he’s really fat ‘start to laugh’ “
1995 woody: there’s gonna be a snake in your boot
Hahaha
@@todayigrewup I think it’s funny too because when you said that, that’s the joke I thought of

@@RedeNathanEmmanuel yes I am
It’s super nostalgic seeing these original toys again
glad you enjoyed it. happy to provide the nostalgia feels.
Wow hope you can clean them well if not it’s still cool to keep around for your collection
@@todayigrewup I have tried, but nothings worked, so I’ve accepted that it’s there.

Unfortunately I don't think they will ever have a wired Woody doll ever again. the reason they stopped doing the wire thing was because of a safety reasons because if the toy is played with enough and gets ripped then those metal wires will stick out and cut someone
Yeah I agree with that
Actually your 1995 woody has a incorrect pitch, something very common
Yes that’s very interesting to hear
@@todayigrewup yes

Thanks for sharing this! That’s actually really cool it appears to be the same sound!!!
Did you have a 95 woody in your childhood?
No I did not have any toy story toys as a kid. My first toy story toy was in 2009 toy story collection Woody but I was already an adult
@@todayigrewup Yesterday I got my hands on a 1995 flexible woody doll on ebay only for 30 dollars.
1995 woody and buzz are the best
They are very classic and vintage
Franchise should’ve ended after 3
I’m not complaining I still loved Toy Story 4 and Lightyear I hope they make a Toy Story 5
There missing one more featured in the movie Buzz Lightyear can glow in the dark
Yeah you’re right
I remember having one of the 2009 Woody but it came in a box like the 1995 one. Also the hat was more similar to the 1995 hat, it didn't have the actual thread around the brim
Interesting maybe it was a playtime Woody
I had that exact same one but he doesn’t have his hat anymore and he has marks everywhere
It's a version for playtime
Finely iv bin waiting for you to make this video for a long time
Thanks for watching partner I appreciate you 🤠
My current woody is the “lots o laughs” woody which has the same pullstring feature, but also has a feature where if you do something to the gut area, woody laughs. I recommend having him on the play setting as you get all phrases and randomized compared to 5 on try me
Oh wow that’s a cool one too I know it also 🤠
Same I have one too
What I mean by all phrases and randomized, is that there’s more phrases you hear on play, compared to the five you hear on try me
Edit: on try me, the five phrases repeat after the fifth one, no randomness meaning you’ll know which one is next
I like 1995 Lazer sound 😊
It’s so cool 😎
Very weird that Thinkway didn't use that same laser sound for the 2009 Buzz.
@@imranbecks yes 👍🏻 That is strange
You know how weird it’s going to be when Disney makes the movie of the actor that plays buzz in the movie while making a toy of the movie buzz that’s playing the movie buzz in the movie.
It will be very interesting to see what they are going to do with that movie and the toy line.
truly want to see how they both have changed over the years what is someone to change thanks for making this entertaining
You’re welcome thanks for watching
woody 1995 looks more like woody from toy story 1. they did not ''improve'' him he is just more accurate to the later movies.
I guess I can see that view but 1995 Woody is too thick even in Toy Story 1 Woody was pretty small and thin
I wish 2009 has buzz light year to the rescue voice but it doesn’t
Yeah you’re right
How did you remove the voice box(the collection one) from the Collection Body. I need to know so I can remove the old voice box, and add the new one.
Watch how I take off the collection head in this video ruclips.net/video/pf-cqttP6xU/видео.html and then watch how I take out and swap the voice box in this video here ruclips.net/video/lszRgWZN_B0/видео.html

Thanks so much partner I really appreciate that 🤠
@@todayigrewup No problem amigo, keep up the good work:)
22:30 buzz hand
Hah yeah
I remembered that my 95 buzz used to glow in the dark like the movie. I got very frustrated when I bought the new one and it had that awful laser sound and it doesn’t light on the dark
That’s so cool. Maybe that was a limited edition one?
@@todayigrewup I don’t know. I still have it.
Is there anyway to check it?
I still have my 1995 Woody and 2009 Buzz in my attic. Played with them all the time growing up.
Awesome
I hope the toy story 5 woody’s will look movie accurate but I doubt that I really hope they don’t give us printed on ones like they did in toy story four🤞🏽
Let’s hope for the best

I also have the 2009 Woody and I’ve had him for 14 years now. Don’t care if I’m nearly 21 or not

lazer sound wise, the 95 one is the kill mode lazer and the 09 is the scanning lazer sound

95 Toys: tries to capture the magic on screen.
09 Toys: tries to capture the accuracy on-screen.
True!
Hi today I grew up my mod idea was making a Mrs nessbit from toy story one it would complete your collection
I will one day
Ok
I prefer the old one.
It’s awesome also 🤠
I feel like the 1995 faces are based off of that one image of Woody and Buzz standing on the bed.
That makes more sense... they look more cartoon like to me over a digital animation but it’s not a bad thing just different!
18:27 I think the signature had the movie accurate green color. I think, I'm not sure. He looks like he does. I always look at my signature collection buzz with awful condition, and think it's the movie color. And I don't know why they went back with that. It doesn't make sense at all.
It’s not green enough in person when compared to the movie maybe it was my bright lighting in this video
Hi! I do have one from Disney Parks that looks like 1995 (It was bought in 97 or 98) and has detachable wings. I can't find that version anywhere!
They are harder to find but I have seen them pop up on eBay
@@todayigrewup I've made some "Sid" things growing up like detaching the helmet and loosing part of a boot. But Buzz is still with me!
Back in the days of 2013 , thinkway toys made this woody doll that looks like the toy story collection doll but you can bend the arm and legs but unfortunately, there was no pull string 😖😖😖😖😩😩😩😩
Yeah that doesn’t sound like a good Woody
So cool! 1995 buzz lightyear was like 20th century of Toy story signature collection Buzz lightyear to people in 1990's.
Yeah that’s true! A cool part of toy history 🤠
Buzz Lightyear from movie: Made in Taiwan
Buzz Lightyear from real life: Made in China
Hahaha so true
I’ve heard this before. I hear split opinions on this. Half of the fans love the 2009 edition laser sound and the other half don’t.
Great video I had the old ones and now have the new ones but never at the same time
Yeah it was cool to bring 2 completely different eras into a room together to compare side by side
I think the 1995 Woody doll is better
He is cool too 😎
I don’t know which ones I had as a kid, my Woody was like a ragdoll, my Buzz had the opening communicator, and both had Andy on the bottom. Maybe toy story 2?
Sounds like it
