If Im not mistaken, the walls of Ston are the second longest fortyfied system on the planet, right after the great wall of China. Just a trivia, not 100% sure tho, Im frm Istra region :)
Yes, that's a monument to NOP (People's resistance movement) in Croatia (Yugoslavia) and it represents a fight against Nazis and Italian fascists from 1941 to 1945. Those monuments are mostly abandoned these days but this seems to be in very good condition.

There's a decent number of them in good condition in Istria and Kvarner.
That sign is not Soviet, but komunist sign, used mostly in all socialist countries.

I think that wall of remembrance didnt paint the full picture, because when the Nazi's attacked Yugoslavia, the Croats became their allies!
