Ana Vidovic's technique (which is prodigious) always serves the music. The matching of her attack and brilliance in tone in the fast running scalic passages, combined with her sensitive phrasing in the lyrical sections makes for compelling listening. A standalone guitar version of a concerto without orchestra is fiendishly difficult to bring off but the fact that this performance works so well is a combined tribute to Rodrigo's idiomatic writing and Ana's musicianship and virtuosity. Can't believe that I have only just listened to this superb performance - it will be sought out by all students of the classical guitar for a long time to come.

I have to admit I had my doubts about this video not having an orchestra. But after watching the video (3 times already) I can only appreciate the marvelous opportunity of having heard and seen the guitar part of this wonderful concert isolated and played with so much artistry. One also has to appreciate how brave Vidovic is, in doing this piece in such a naked and transparent way. Thanks, Siccas and Ana for doing this.

An orchestra is always comforting, as it shall be in this Concierto de Aranjuez, but the better that Ana tries to go the way ahead, just on her own, without this orchestra. A brave step, as you say, and a step that in my (and yours) opinion is a total success.

Love it. She is so good. Don’t mind hearing and watching the Concierto either way. Hearing it solo makes me appreciate how hard the composition really is. Kind of reminds me what the rockers do with unplugged or demo versions of their songs. They make me hear them in a different way. Not better or worse, just different.

2nd movement (still-born death of a child) The Country of Spain knows this melody by heart. I wish I could have seen & heard this with an orchestra. I am sure this is upcoming. I had the chance to see this performer, before She signed with a major label. At the time, the Guitar Society could still afford Her compensation. Literally, months later She was signed. She arrived in a U.S. town in the mountains and said it made Her miss Her hometown in Croatia. Keep going Miss Ana!!

Ana Vidovic is one of the best instrumentalists who has ever lived. She again brings us a bit of happiness in our troubled world. So glad to have seen her three times and attend her workshop in Los Angeles a few years back. Very much looking forward to seeing her in San Francisco this spring. @siccasguitars and @anavidovic please make this a yearly tradition on New Year’s day ! 🙏🏼
Such beautiful music so beautifully played 🤗💚.
A delightful (and IMHO better) alternative for the same Strauss music from Vienna every year 😉.

It took Paco de Lucia about 6 months to get it to concert standard. Of course, he passed with flying colors.

Flawless and fabulously clear and bright performance of the Aranjuez and lovely to hear unaccompanied for a change . Beautiful tone superbly recorded too so hats off the sound engineer as well!.
