A little summary of the people in this case, as I was fairly confused since there're so many:
Bonnie Smith - Donald's mother, left our boy Don out of her will.
Richard Smith - Donald's stepfather, Donald regarded him as his bio dad. The one that inherits Bonnie's will in full.
Donald Hartung - The perpetrator. He's also the one left without a dime of Bonnie's will.
Richard Smith Jr. aka RT - Donald's elder half-brother. Inherits 50% of Bonnie's will when Richard dies.
John Smith - Donald's younger half-brother. Both half-bros are from Bonnie and Richard's new marriage. Also inherits 50% of the will.
Donald Hartung Jr. - Donald's estranged son.
Marlin Purifoy - Jailhouse informant, prosecution's star witness.
    Bear - Smith family's doggie.
    Xena - Donald's dog.
(thank u for kindly correcting me, i couldn't keep up with everything either!)

"Why would someone confess a crime to someone they just met in jail?"
I've worked as a bondsman most of my adult life, came into it from my mother and father also both being bail bondsman. People in jail really do tell on themselves the most, i don't find jailhouse confessions entirely unbelievable, when people call in from the jail to the office or when you three way them over to their family/friends from the jail so they can reach out to someone a good percentage of the time I overhear them talking about details of their case over the recorded phone line that literally tells you every single time you dial in or out from that it's being recorded and can be used.
There are plenty of people who don't know to keep their mouths shut and part of the reason they're in jail in the first place half the time is because they couldn't keep their most shut. So it's not unbelievable to me at all. I've been doing check in paperwork with someone and they just randomly tell me every detail about whatever dumb shit they did and I'm a complete stranger to them. People are just dumb. It is what it is

I agree. Also, being in jail can be incredibly boring and some people just can't help showing off to pass the time.
Having said that, every visit of law enforcement to a person in jail should be properly logged and recorded to avoid any opportunity for malpractice.

Because he's his own worst enemy, didnt even try a defense strategy, showed no remorse and kept painting himself as the biggest victim of the system in the world. I like how the narrator acknowledges that Jailhouse informants are typically lying for their own sake-- but this informant is 100% truthful in that he supplies information not known or documented by detectives in legal paperwork such as the torturing of his mother and the name of his dog. I know he was probably facing life for something bad and the deal gave him a max of 30 years, but honestly he deserves it for coming forward honestly and truthfully-- because we know that since he's genuinely snitching on a guy, he's not going to be treated very well by fellow inmates when he does get sentenced.

This case happened not far from where I live and I followed it. I honestly believe that Donald just hated his mother and his brothers. He killed them out of pure hate. The whole family, with the exception of Donald Jr., were strange and had a very toxic relationship. I do remember seeing the news breaking of when he was arrested, and the media immediately jumped on the Wicca thing. It was embarrassing. That had not one thing to do with why this tragedy happened.

I think more parent's should discuss it & not keep their kids in the dark. And-I think a living inheritence-giving some of the inheritence to your child/kids while the parent's are still alive is the best solution. Then the parent's can see how their money is changing their kids lives for the better; & it can be a huge financial benefit for the parent's as well. Spend down while in the elderly stages. Financial advisors have said this over & over. Don't "waste" your kids inheritences until you depart....wouldn't you rather help them in the mid-life; one of the most difficult stages of life with kids, housing, etc?

Also I'll tell you what i am getting remarried and i do plan on having more kids with my new husband but my first born will never in a million years get removed from my will so i can leave it all to my new children. All of them will be my kids and all of them will be splitting my assets, no child is more important than the other and i don't give a damn how old they get.

Some kids might be very entitled, but the woman sounds terrible. I think the shopping addiction bugged me most. She sounds like a greedy slob. QVC daily, on top of the regular shopping, yuck. Donald is most definitely guilty, but I feel little sympathy for her or the creep brother.

To some degree...and I will always
Do what I can to help them through this life....I have taught them to take care of and help one another...because at the end of the day all a person truly owns and has, is family...the world will use you up and throw you away like trash...

I really cannot even describe how happy and excited I am to have found another “true crime” channel and series that is super well-done, with actual episodes that are longer than 10-15 minutes, the “story” line is developed, accurate, a really good narrator, good photos and videos that are appropriately placed and not just random... oh man lol. I’m like a kid on Christmas. I don’t know how I never found or how RUclips never recommended this channel to me, especially since I pay for RUclips premium! I thought I was subscribed or at least knew about, all the true crime channels; good or bad. Yay!

at around 50:00 he says that given the evidence he can say that the murders did not happen on 7/29. This is NOT proven, because of a variety of variables that neither of the examiners had evidence of. He did say he couldn't say for sure when they happened but he did rule out a day. These sort of witnesses are gross to me because they loop hole around lying under oath and try to create reasonable doubt for a murderer/criminal.

pretty unrelated, but i’m so happy to see this channel actually doing research not only for the biography of the people they’re talking about in the videos (as well as their cases) but in other aspects surrounding the situation as well, in this instance - wicca. i’m not wiccan but i appreciate their religion and culture and i’m very interested in witchcraft, so hearing someone bringing up the truth about the “sacrifices” is just so nice. thank you so much!
