Speaking about contrast, I also found another useful tool especially for skin tones. You know how a Luma Scope essentially shows you Left to Right, but sometimes it's difficult to tell up from down? Get a False Color LUT. Technically they are for shooting, but they can also work great in Post. Pop it onto an adjustment layer/node and Hide/Unhide it when you are unsure of something. You will get the full image analyzed top down, left right, everything.
Nice piece of work. I would really like to see the humor return to the videos. Humor makes learning more enjoyable! Please bring the old humor back! Thanks!
Cheers Christopher. There's more practical application in the full course but we thought it was important to emphasise that the course explains the concepts before showing you the techniques in Resolve.
@@mzedpro Thanks for the reply. Wish I had the dosh for the courses (only so much in my budget right now, maybe in the future) but there's some good stuff to unpack here, too. I do all of my color work in Premiere but since I may be getting a Black Matic Pocket Cam I will have a look at resolve. I appreciate you doing this video. Cheers.
Really nice video and course introduction! Sure made me comfortable, just like the highlights and shadows. I think I may invest in this course. Thanks for pointing it out!
Film riot is the best film making and cinematography channel i think that’s out there. I’ve been subscribing to this channel for about a year now and i have learn so much things especially making things happen out from scratch. However i have this problem of not getting my learnings into actions mainly because of limited resources. I just get to practice my filmmaking and editing skills in school projects involving videos. I have been starting my own youtube channel and i am hoping for support and feedback from you guys. God bless film riot
I'm considering a Sony FDR-X3000 for my upcoming projects. Can you please advise me? What are the PROS and CONS of using this camera for filmmaking? Thanks!
I don't get why so many people are saying this is not a good video, although it was about understanding the scientific part of contrast and IRE, it is also one of the most basic and fundamental things you need to know for color correction. I've seen too many tutorials on youtube that teaches people that the first thing to do in post is to bring the highlights to its maximum before clipping and shadows to the lowest before crushing, regardless of the scene. Granted most of the sample shots used were taken outdoors when its appropriate to stretch out the waveform, this method can not be used in every scene. Which is the main take away point from this tutorial imo. It's basic because if you use a grey card, you don't even need to figure out what type of scenes you're filming at, just set the IRE according to the grey card and your image will be "scienfitically properly exposed"
If anyone's interested, I've recently posted a video about my experience shooting my first feature film, as well as a new short! Sorry for self-promotion, you know how hard it is but I believe Film Rioters will find some inspiration and practical advice in the video!
i watched your video! only because of your honest attitude! i like the behind the scenes and your personality reminds me of a water bottle, ps. i like water bottles
Heyy. Big fan here! I just wanted to know whether to shoot at true 24 fps or 23.976 ? I am really confused here. Would appreciate it a lot if you answer it :)
Do a “How to make a cheap political ad” please. I have a project that I have to do about politics and I need to know how to make a good but cheap political ad. Please help! Thank you and love your vids!

Not gonna lie, this was not easy to follow at all... Its alot of watching him spew his years of knowledge at you without showing exactly what he's speaking on.
Who's been subscribed for over 3 years?
JNB VISUALS 7 years here
Me...
The first episode was how to make a cabbage patch kid...then I subbed
Film riot is the reason I got up and started making videos

I’ll come back to this video later when I’m not as tired and confused- I’m pretty sure this is very helpful! Have to try it out sometime!
That's why men are paid more
Gosh this is actually so helpful. Instead of just going by "it feels right" there's a process that's repeatable.
Years back (2011/12), I honestly used to debate with myself over whether your studio background was a real set or not...
Never thought of it. I can't decide though lmao
lol whut they've shown the greenscreen many times

Always learning from this channel since birth. THANKS FILM RY RY!!
Awesome and helpful, thanks!
You know you are a badass when you have your own ads displayed on your own video.
I’ll definitely check this out! It’s pretty hard to find really good resources on color grading theory.
Great tips!
Thank You Film Riot for the free class.
I really enjoyed this clip and would actually be interested in the full coarse. So happy to see Resolve Studio. ⚡️🖤⚡️
This is something that was very helpful for my short films, definitely keeping it in the gearsenal
you guys are the best!!! love you'er work!!!
It would have been nice to see what he was talking about in action, more but it was helpful.

Can you show a practical application of Adobe Premier Pro’s new option “color match”?
Ryan Workman lol peter McKinnon has one a year ago.
I’ve seen all the different tutorials on it.But I’d like to see it actually applied in real world use.
Really nice video and course introduction! Sure made me comfortable, just like the highlights and shadows.
I think I may invest in this course. Thanks for pointing it out!
So useful!
This video is so freaking good! I'm sold on MZed. Just need to gather funds. Do they have any student discounts or discounts for your viewers?

4:07 1024 shades of gray? all you need is fifty!
Watching this after the Apple event and this feels like an unintentional send up of an Apple keynote lol
Nothing better than a bit of Film Riot at 1 in the morning

I know this will help my films, it's just so foreign to me until I get to play around with it.
Thanks Ryan.
You can download Resolve for free and start playing with it today. It's very easy to pick up!
