Hi Liz, I’m italian and I had been living in the UK for a year and half some years ago before I came back to Italy. The reason why a vast majority of outlanders or foreigners don’t understand English very well when native speakers talk is due to the fact that many of us don’t catch certain idioms or slangs. Moreover of course, Brits have a different tonality, many words are not pronounced loud enough when they talk to us and mincing words could be an additional factor with it, though. In addition, connected speech is the real key or secret if you want to catch what native speakers say

This lesson was literally straight to the point, in my case and in so many others, I can understand everything in this video, but when I watch a movie in English without subtitles the average of understanding decreases to 80% or less, but when I activate the subtitles, I can understand almost everything but some words do not make sense in the context, and I still have lots of words and expressions to learn, even though I still study English hardly, it looks like two different worlds, a classroom environment and the ambience of the English really used in everyday life.

I'm a french native speaker and I totally subscribe to everything you said : there can be a huge difference between two native speakers of the same language ! I personnaly can understand the young youtuber you mentionned as well as I can understand president Macron, but that would be more complicated for my parents for instance, since they belong to another generation. Anyway, I discovered your channel a few weeks ago and it made me realize there are some simple things I can do to reach this "final level of fluency" you describe so well. Again, I heartedly thank you for your help. Cheers :-) Jean, from France

Your tips are new and helpful unlike other english teachers.
this could be because you yourself had tried to learn another foreign language and had found difficulties in understanding native speakers.
I took notes all your advices and I will apply on my attempt to understand natives english conversations.
    Thank U Very Much

Hey Lisa This is Önder from Turkey
I really enjoy watching your videos and I understand a lot easier than the other teachers. I don't mean they're not good
Just because I'm more used to it your teaching Technic.
Therefore I wanted to ask you this idiom
    "GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS"
    the context I heard was
"How do you fit in to the "GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS" around here?
I'd be very happy if I could get the explanation from you.
    Thank you 😊😊😊
