- “I didn’t want to surf shit waves or do any turns or airs,” says Jacob Willcox. “But on the QS, that’s all you think about. This year was the biggest blessing because it gave me time to do whatever I wanted-and that was trying to get as barrelled as I could.”
If getting barrelled was the aim, then Jacob Willcox’s year has been a certified success. We’ve long known that he’s an exceptional tube-rider (that’s why we snuck him into Surf100 WA) but the above clip is Chippo's manifesto. Fifteen minutes of unadulterated WA freight trains, about a dozen of which left us gobsmacked.
'By Default' makes the case that Jacob is one of Australia's most masterful tube-riders. And there are some seriously gifted dwellers “stuck” in this country at present. Russ Bierke, Jack Robinson, Creed, Chun, Taj and his gen, etc.
Jacob threatens to outclass them all, forehand and backhand.

Had to post again. Issac great job. You set up at a great angle to get the light. I mean the definition in the water on the face is amazing. Folks, if You know what to look for take a peek at the bottom of the wave face where it's at sea level, and more than a few times goes below sea level. Now look at all the warbly bits Jacob is adjusting to; it's truly insane. Just look how many rails he nears catches and how shallow and sucking it is and all on a DRY REEF. So, without the right camera angle setting we would never know how SICK HEAVY this session was. I can see it; can everyone else? Again, Issac great work from setting up, shooting, editing, to my eyes; thanks Mate. Willy, geeze, YOUR MENTAL PAL.

I've been watching every surf video/movie/ clip/edit available since 1978 and this just might be the sickest I've ever seen.
I met this guy in the Maldives in the water at Coke's. He was an absolute legend ay.
I straight up begged for a single tip after I saw him throw gigantic buckets blasting the f#%k out of poor wave.
He could jamb 4 to five turns in where I'd be lucky to get three and plenty of others were doing well to get two or make the take-off (further up the point).
He was heaps friendly and the tip has helped heaps too. Just wanted to thank the bloke for a sick memory and a moment in time.

I interviewed Jacob as a young kid and his politeness and humble attitude was as impressive as his surfing! AND, how's those little hand flares?
