I know where a "85 is for 14 grand. The motor has 16,500 miles. The body has... I believe 60,000 miles. Beautiful condition. The guy could easily get 20 grand for it.
I absolutely love Grand Nationals. But those hot air 84-85 engines were ticking timebombs for anyone who went past half throttle on them. The advice I tell anyone who comes into my shop with an 84-85 Grand National looking to mod it to go fast would be “the best mod you can do for a hot air GN is sell it and buy a cold air 86-87 GN”. But this car is worth some major money even tho it’s an 85 because that’s unbelievable condition for a survivor.
You sound like a regurgitating turkey that's repeating crap you've overheard. What's your shops name so I can steer clear? Ticking time bomb haha! Why is that? Can you even cite the differences between the blocks? Are you referring to the lack of a turbo oil return? Cause yep, that's impossible for a shop to handle considering it's just a hole huh? Or maybe you are referencing the miniscule difference in lifter valley material? Yep...Ticking time bomb haha! What a dork.
S1KRR ..where is ur shop if I may ask? Im seeking an experienced GN guy for some 200R4 tranny work & few other things. Have an '86 GN btw. In SE MI now & soon to be NW OH area. Thanks.
We own two '84 GN's. And that, what you said about the 'ticking timebomb' throttle, you are ENTIRELY correct. Too sad that my other Grand National T-Top doesn't run and drive because it's engine was taken out. ;-;
S1KRR, I was wondering, so would the same be true for the 84 & 85 T type Turbos? In other words, is the motor setup exactly the same as the Grand Nationals to raise concern and how about the 86 & 87 T type Buicks? Are they a better choice than the 84, 85 T types?
That's easily a $15,000 car. Being an 85 hurts it big, but still gorgeous.
