With approximately 40 million people worldwide, the Kurds are the largest ethnic group without an internationally recognized state. After the festivals "Female Voice of Iran" and "Female Voice of Afghanistan", the Contemporary Opera Berlin dedicates itself this time to the Kurdish culture. Through cinematic portraits, live concerts and a virtual festival on our RUclips channel, we try to present the diversity of Kurdish culture, which unfortunately cannot be easily experienced by a traveler today due to complex political restrictions.
Eight singers from the 4 main regions of Kurdish culture will be portrayed:
Northern Kurdistan (Bakur in Southern Turkey): BERFIN AKTAY and SAKINA TEYNA • Southern Kurdistan (Başǔr 'Kurdistan Autonomous Region' in Northern Iraq): KAWYAR HADI and WAJEDA KHERO • Western Kurdistan (Rojava in Eastern Syria): JÎNDA KANJO and SÎDAR IBRAHIM • Eastern Kurdistan (Rojhelat in Western Iran): SAHAR LOTFI and HANI MOJTAHEDI
