Never understood why more brands don't use sweeping quartz more often. A lot of ppl shy away from quartz bc they don't like how the ticking looks. Sweeping quartz takes care of that, and annoying servicing costs associate with automatic watches.

    • @JustOneMoreWatch
      @JustOneMoreWatch  День назад +61

I think people who want quartz aren't bothered about the sweep. They want accuracy and battery life instead.

@@JustOneMoreWatchI agree with you. I don’t care about the sweep at all. I get tired of resetting the time with my mechanicals. So I wear a CWC Sea Falcon and a Christopher Ward Valour for nearly everything now, both quartzes and neither of these sacrifice battery life for the visual sweep.

As a diehard quartz devotee, I REEEAAALLLY wish they would sweep. Especially mega-smooth a la Precisionist. Or at least like Seiko mechaquartz. I'll grudgingly deal with the 1-tick per second thing, if I must, for Eco-Drive. I'm DYING for the day of the Eco-Drive Precisionist Perpetual Calendar!!! If I had a magic wand, I'd add GPS calibration a la Citizen Satellite Wave.

@@JustOneMoreWatchfor me (as part of my 80+ watch collection including quartz, mecha-quartz, mechanical and automatic) the benefit of quartz, and in particular mecha-quartz, is about a few things 1) price - often a look/style for less, 2) grab and go versatility and 3) mecha-quartz eliminates the annoyance of many quartz watch hands missing the markers. As a 4th) on the side I do like the smooth sweep better than that of a plain quartz.
To actually accurately time something I am using something else besides a watch, plus the downside of battery life is the cost when you have to replace multiple watch batteries at once.

    Quartz Erebus for 2025?

  • @wristopia4101

Curve ball, but how about a really short seconds hand if it ticks?
If it does not reach the indices then it cannot annoyingly miss them.
Maybe an inner unbroken circle so it has something to touch.

Mmmm. Ticking quartz? Not for me, however the model you have hits the second marks. Sweeping would suit me.
My wife’s comments when she overheard you getting excited about the clasp “what is so special about the clasp? I wear a watch because I like the look and feel of it, not because of the clasp!“ female perspectives, does she have point? Oh she has a point, she has a say in our finances, she has a point!
Nice watch though, even if it is somewhat overpriced like their other offerings. I loved their chronograph but again I personally thought it was about $4_500 dollars overpriced.
Looking forward to seeing what Erebus offer both quartz and mechanical wise throughout this year Jody.

I've been seeing an increase in high quality quartz demand and I love it. It took me a while to try quartz again after my cheap timex I had to sleep in a separate room to because of how loud the tick was, but after getting a Chronomaster I'm kind of just on the hunt for beautifully finished quality quartz watches. The lack of maintenance is just too good to pass up.
EDIT: Also the bang for buck because of how much more affordable quartz is. Same finishing as an automatic equivalent for half the price or less.

My go to quartz isn’t from a micro, it’s a Certina. It’s a DS-2 Precidrive chrono and I wear it when I watch racing or go to car events. I don’t get the opportunity to do that very often so it’s nice to have my go-to “car watch” set and ready to go for when the green lights go out 😁

I am not sure if the price is in USD or Aussie $. Either way, I feel it is far too expensive for a quartz. AS an ex soldier, it is well know to most servicemen that the colours of Khaki and yellow denote HIGH EXPLOSIVE. During training at Kapooka every recruit throws 2 grenades. The first is a dummy grenade coloured blue. They think this is the real deal ,but it's just a training one to see if the recruit will flinch /drop it /fumble it or have a panic attack . If they pass this phase they are then re circled through with the REAL DEAL .The real explosive grenade is coloured Khaki and has a yellow stripe. After that phase is finished , they are informed on how to detect High explosive ordinance by the Khaki and Yellow colours. I do like both dials on the Pitzman but they are going to need to bring the price down a lot to pique my interest.

Would like to see solar powered movements replace the nasty poisonous batteries. My only true complaint with analog quartz is a second hand that misses the markers, especially where it lands right between the marks - so irritating!

I generally only want quartz movements with a sweeping second hand, like with the Seiko VH31 movement. It's why I bought an Addiesdive AD2030 last year. Otherwise, if I'm going for a watch that I want to throw on and not worry about having to wind/set, I'd just get a digital.

Great Video Jody. Yes I agree, high precision quartz is high on my agenda for this year to add to my collection... been looking at the bulova lunar pilot and seville, marathon navigator steel, amongst others. The Pitzmann watches sound great especially with ETA quartz inside. I'd need a black/blue dial to make me purchase... I'm visiting Seoul in September this year so it would be good to pick up a black/blue dial Overture date whilst I'm there. BTW an ETA HP quartz Erebus Ascent would also be great 🙂

Amongst the watch nerd community this is already underway for sure. I have quite a few pieces now, including a couple of mechaquartz chronos, smooth-sweep tool watches and a Bulova precisionist. If you have a box full of timepieces, especially with dates and more, it's nice to have them still working and accurate when you pick them up after a week or so. The smooth sweep movements make this a lot more palatable though. I'm sorry but there's still no way I'm paying $500 for an electric ticker. I'm really quite interested in a big moon complication (an ACCURATE one, not a date wheel in fancy-dress! I'm looking at you, Chinese brands...) or even a perpetual calendar that's powered by a quartz engine. I'll also add that if you're gonna go quartz you might as well go Japanese. The Swiss are hardly known for their prowess in this area.

Tissot made a 40mm dive watch with that movement for way cheaper. This clasp spanks Tissots clasp though (I have the Tissot). But the Tissot is such a delight grab and go watch that can take a beating (I'm a firefighter/paramedic). It's thin for a dive watch also.
