Real talk. Buju to the world. Buju voice is raspy and rare. Unique voice in dancehall . Alkaline voice is the opposite of Buju but also one of the unique voice in dancehall.
Buju Capleton Garnett Silk Tony Rebel were before. They brought it back from Brigadier Jerry and Chaplin dem days after Yellow Man and Shabba went slack.

Anybody know about the evolution of dancehall know Buju has a lot to do with it. The hold rasta culture in dancehall was by him mainly, Capleton and Garnett Silk and to a lesser extent Tony Rebel but Buju was the man. That Til Shiloh album was the first such album by a dancehall artiste with reggae and dancehall on one album.
@SteadyMedz. Buju wasn't the figurehead in transforming the rasta culture in the 90s, That was mainly Garnet Silk, Tony Rebel and their crew Christian soldiers. Garnet was the figurehead because he was the main artiste with the message and pulling power. Buju gets credit for longevity because Silk then died in 94. Listen Trooper talk about the influence of Silk in the 90s, Garnet influenced so many of the major rasta artiste that we know, Luciano, Capleton, Ras Shiloh, etc. Garnet and that crew changed the direction of the music from gun and slack lyrics to put culture/conscious music on top again. Later on down the line Sizzla had a greater pull than Banton on the youths turning to rastafari in my opinion. Garnet shifted the music like no other though, to this day none of those artiste has filled the void left in the music by Silk, and he is the only one of those artiste from that time that is compared to Bob Marley worldwide despite his short career. Bless up
@@psyrobi4723 If you want to talk Rasta business you have to go to the foundation, Daddy Roy, Briggy and more. I am talking about after Yellow Man, Super Cat and Shabba took dancehall to a different direction. Who was the next big dancehall artist after that, 92/93?! Who was leading the pack with number 1 dancehall artiste with #1 hits after hits?! All his songs before (in 92/93) were grimy, gun lyrics or gyal tunes. Yes, Garnett and Tony Rebel were there but they were not the leading dancehall artist. When he and Capleton start singing conscious lyrics and turn Rasta that’s when all the young DJs started follow. I loved it no researched ended. Just FACTS!
@@Steadymedz We are talking about the era of the 90s not 70s and 80s. Those artistes you mentioned were of that era. The impact Silk had in his time in the music was tremendous. The collective I mentioned, Christian soldiers Dragged the music back out of the mire of slackness and gun lyrics. Do the history on that time brother.
@@psyrobi4723, you're 1000% CORRECT. It was Garnett Silk that restarted the major change in the 1990s of both singers & DJs back into the wave of Rasta conciousness in Reggae music.
I'm a Rasta man, and I must admit that Buju Banton is one of the greatest DJ of all time,Bob Marley was one of the greatest Reggae Artist of all time, and I could add tons more to the list.I would never say any one man is the greatest, because that would be saying that one man is greater than another, all man is great in his own rights.Bob Marley said it best ,every man think his burden is the heaviest, and when the rain fall, it don't fall on one mans' house. Please keep up the good work DJ'S and Singers alike, and as positive as can be,bless up.
