I swear wings fans are a bunch of casual hockey fans sometimes. You need grit and goaltending. Troubas one of the most grittiest guys in the league and he lays his body down. The 183 shots back that statement up. 🙄

That move does not really help the Rangers cap issues. They’d save only about 900k.
I think rather than the 1st they would want to move Kakko and retain less money. That saves more on their cap.
However, I doubt this ever happens. Plus I don’t get why the Sabres would do this.

The only disappointing thing about this from a Red Wings standpoint is if some of the rumors of the trade details were true ie. the Rangers were going to retain salary, take Justin Holl in return and were going to include a draft pick. Even then I don't know that most Wings fans would have been happy with the trade anyway.
There's no way Detroit was going to get them to take Justin Holl's contract. The whole point for New York would be cap savings, they wouldn't give up those savings for Holl.
I'm glad Trouba rejected the trade. I don't want him in Detroit and I don't mind Buffalo saddling themselves with his contract for a couple years. WIn/Win for me.

I"m just hearing about this potential trade. I'm a Sabres fan, and as a fan I don't think they should entertain this one. Cap is too high (they just dumped a 30 goal Skinner for that reason) and they still have UPL, Krebs, Malenstyn to contract. Then next year it gets really serious..Quinn, Peterka, McLeod, Levi, Byram and a plethora of others that signed a 1 year deal.

Buffalo currently starts Jokiharu and Clifton. Say what you want about Trouba, he’s a massive upgrade over both those players. If Rangers retain even a portion, he could be a great asset for Buffalo

Really curious what Drury is gunna do? I was totally for buying him out after the Cats series. His play isnt about team first. If he really bounces back this season fine but it seems like a bridge is burnt after how Drury wanted to correct a mistake the previous regime did.

All I can say is they dodged a bullet. The only thing that could have justified it in the first place was as a stopgap for ASP, and if they managed to dump Holl and/or possibly get a pick from NYR for taking him. Wasn't interested in him otherwise.
I think their best bet is to talk to the Islanders. I mean, it's perfect for Trouba since they can maintain their same residence and her career, while being out of the Rangers hands. The only problem of course is that I'm sure the Islanders know this, and would want to make NYR eat as much cap as possible.

I get not wanting to move your family. But if you want to have complete control of your destiny (Full NMC), than have it put in your contract, even if it costs you some salary. Trouba did not do that. He took the money AND wants to have control. Uh uh. Not how it works, Jake.

We got our NY guys in Kane and Tarasenko. I didn't want to see Walman or Fabbri go but we re-signed Kane and I wanted that most of all this off season.

No one seems to be mentioning it anymore, but my understanding is that Andrew Copp would have been put into this trade as well, so that way we could also get rid of his cap hit with this deal. New york of course would desire his defensive play and he also liked New York. Plus, Detroit fans on these boards have been complaining about him (and his cap hit) EVER since he got here.....so sounds like itmight be a win, win to me! What do you think of that ??
Plus, Moving Copp would open the door for Nate Danielson or Kasper to play.

As a person with no attatchment to the Rangers, I just want things to work out for the guy. Do I hate his style of play/dangerous hits in general? Yes, but he's also a human with a wife and child and he's willing to sacrifice part of his career to be with them. NYR fans, hope it works out for you guys.

As a sabres fan, i would be okay with him as long as they dont give up any assets to get him. They have the cap space, no big name UFA's will ever sign in Buffalo until they are relevant again. They have the room for the contract. Also with the cap projected to go up again next season it would be fine. They already have the majority of their core players locked into contracts I am not counting on Owen Power breaking the bank as his defensive play is really poor. Unless Lindy turns him around this season, i see him signing a 2 year 4m deal as a show me

Buffalo is 3 hours closer to MSG than Detroit. That’s by car by the way. By plane the time difference is essentially negligible. So if he accepts a trade to buffalo he just isn’t too smart. It would make no sense for him to accept a buffalo trade vs a red wings trade based off of possible standings placement and travel.
Why the hell would Buffalo want him ? they have 3 of the best young defensemen in the NHL - what would they want him for ? after he nixed the Detroit deal - I think it would look good on him to be shuffled off to Buffalo . I don't sense wife or not that he is going to want to be on the Rangers Roster come October- I could see the Garden coming pretty ugly at him
The fact that the wings considered adding him is very concerning. Even with salary retained it would have been a senseless waste of cap. Could have just kept Hronek and made the playoffs by now if you're willing to pay Trouba. Only way the trade would have made any sense is if NY was throwing in a pick/prospect

@pjpredhomme7699 so you think Trouba would look better next to Chiarot? The Hronek trade was definitely the right move, it saved us from paying him 7.25 million a year. Trading for Trouba would basically cancel out all of the positives of the Hronek trade though. Unless of course Trouba AND draft pick were coming our way.
I don't think Buffalo is an option. If NJ or NYI were interested, maybe. But when it comes to a desire to stay close to family, stay close to his wife who is in residency? No. It's one thing to be across town. It's another thing to be across the state. Trouba could simply choose to retire rather than report to a team anywhere outside the NYC area, then no one would get him.

With that said, Buffalo fans have not seen the playoffs in well over a decade and their team has the cap space to bring in some leadership for this year and next. Exactly what Buffalo needs actually. Ha Ha Ha Jacob Trouba now has a 16 team trade list. So he can be traded to 16 teams without his permission. And i seriously doubt Detroit is on his no trade list. That was when he still had his full NMC and Elliotte Friedman said that he was willing to waive his NMC to come home to Detroit. His wife Dr Kelly Trouba is the one causing a big riff here.

Also, Detroit had planned on playing him on their 3rd line so he wasn't taking anyone's minutes.
