Omg thank god I’m not the only one. Like you and Bris my initial reaction was like this beat/music overall except for a few parts does not suite these women at all. Like yeah they can sing….that’s so not the issue. It’s like what another person commented, the production was just awful. Just so you know, my queen BoA has never been in any group, she debuted as a solo and she's still a solo artist :) SNSD members are: Taeyeon (the one with the silver hair), Hyoyeon (the one with the pink hair) and then Sunny, Tiffany, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona and Seohyun! Jessica left the group in 2014 and SM in 2015.

I'm so proud of the Kep1er girls. I watched gp999 and gosh they've all been through sm. I loved WA DA DA. Apparently, now I'm paraphrasing, from a comment I saw on Jre's channel, WA DA DA means something along the lines of running towards something. I know people found the title weird but this would most probably make things clearer with the other lyrics like vroom vroom like a supersonic/ Wa DA DA/ run.

This particular unit is classified as GOT the beat. Each unit is going to have a particular theme. Theirs is based on intense dance songs and performances.
Kep1er is pronounced Kepler. Their name combines Kep which means catching dreams and the number 1 which means girls coming together as one to be the best. The girls were formed through the show Girls Planet 999. They are from Korea, Japan and China. The group consists of the top nine members Yujin, Xiaoting, Mashiro, Chaehyun, Dayeon, Hikaru, Huening Bahiyyih, Youngeun, and Yeseo. BOA is a veteran who is one of the first female soloist in South Korea. She belongs in the 1st generation, while SNSD belongs in the second. Also, BOA was the first korean artist to penetrate the east asian market. she was the first one to promote kpop out of the country and if i am not mistaken it was Japan that she has first penetrated. She basically was the impetus that showed Korea that their music can be marketed outside the country. that’s why everyone in the industry say her name with immense respect. she just looks young maybe that’s why she was mistaken to be an snsd mental.

Step Back is a work of art!
The rolling bass sound really reminds me of this key part in the psychological horror movie Hereditary by A24. I just can't get it out of my head.
the chorale and the classical music we all hear at the background is in minor key. And because of the many sharp and flats happening in the background, people might find it scary, sad, unsettling, or even melodically messing up with the whole song. to be honest, i think SM did that just to flex that even if there were many sharps and flats in the background, the girls can still sing on tune LMAO.
Kidding aside, SM is really experimental for doing such song. Also, by looking at how they structure aespa and NCT’s songs, you can really see that SM doesn’t follow the sound or trend of the popular music. instead, they try to experiment outside the music the current generation is accustomed to listening.
That’s why when baekhyun’s candy dropped i had to double check it again if this is really an sm produced song because it is so refreshing to hear them making a song that is so in with the loop.. something that’s not diversely structured/hard to digest in one listening (by the general public) like nct’s songs.
Man if you know kpop from 2nd gens era Taeyeon is every man's dream damn i still remember my first time seeing their MV im like wtf is this, without knowing i got addicted to kpop because of SNSD lol i see that u started listening to kpop in 3rd gens that's why u know rv and aespa but man SNSD's era is the golden age of GG man they were the freaking queens. Here’s some background on Kep1er since everyone’s only talking about GOT 😅
The group was formed as the result of a reality show in Korea called Girls Planet 999. It started with 99 girls, 33 each from Korea, Japan, and China. There were various performances, challenges, etc which led to the elimination of girls until the top 9 were voted and named Kep1er.
The final line up came out as 6 Koreans, 2 Japanese, and 1 Chinese with a bit of controversy due to the weight of Korean votes vs international. (Koreans voted counted for 50% of the vote while the rest of the world counted for the other half which meant Koreans had a strong hand in building this lineup which came out quite heavily Korean.)
The girl you kept mentioning is Heuning Bahiyyah (Korean-American mixed)had controversy surrounding her since her brother is in TXT (the group from the same label as BTS).

If I remember correctly Johannes has a planet named after him and that's where the girls are from I their storyline. Correct me if I'm wrong. So it's pronounced Kep-ler. You pronounced it properly initially
Certain points of their choreo do call back to GP99. 14:04 That cute hand dance you found cute referenced their theme song from the show "O.O.O" and the rap segment 13:17 before the breakdown with the three girls formed three circles that intersect which reference the logo for the show. And them going "Oh oh oh" if you notice they say it in 3s and the song is "O.O.O " 3 Os . There's quite a bit of call back
