I'd rather have the conifers. Aspens are just a huge weed. Largest living organism on the planet because the entire stand is of a common root.. They take over entire mountain sides and serve little purpose really.

They have tons of purpose. Jesus. Too many monoculture conifer stands. Which is why there is so much natural death of the stands. Need age and species diversity breaking up a land scape. Conifers wouldn't be able to encroach if we could let stands burn naturally. But noooooooo, all these people want to live in a forest part of a wildfire ecosystem then complain if they're cabin or multimillion dollar house burns down.
