Thank you! Immediately after watching this video I sent an email to a company I've wanted to work with and they checked out my work and got back to me within 30 minutes. They will be sending me some products to try out in exchange for social media posts. I'm excited to start building relationships. Thx again

The missing elements for me from this video are:
    - Finding the right person to approach at the company.
    - The actual approach, general wordings etc.
All great advice in this vid! 😎📸

Like the video, thank you for sharing. The only issue I see is the part where you offer a lot of value for (almost) free. This is promoted by so many photographers and videographers and actually is making other companies think that photos are worth nothing. This is devaluating the work of all of us. There will always be someone that will do it for free or ‘exposure’, especially for bigger brands. In my experience, companies love to jump on board for (almost) free photos, but then, when you have ‘build trust’ as you call it, and you waited for a paid job, they are surprised that you actually have commercial rates. They say: “hmm, but last time you did it for just a pair of boots” and now I have to pay 3000 dollar. What’s changed!?” I love working with companies that value my work for what it is.

100% hear you! It can be discouraging when brands expect EVERYTHING for free all the time, and it's true that starting free does sometimes make it harder to charge real rates in the future. Even with that though I think it's worth it to get the portfolio, get the experience and get your work out there. Even if your freebie shoot might not turn into a paid shoot with that particular company, but it certainly might turn into a referral or portfolio, and gives you one more logo to put on your list of clients when you reach out to the next brand.
Totally get your perspective though. It's just in my experience there are a TON of photographers out there who want to get paid right away, while the work just isn't at the level required yet to be WORTH it for the brand.
At the end of the day the brands are in business to make money and spend only what is required... which means if they have lines of photographers ready to take photos for free, they're going to use those options first. In my experience, the less sexy brands have the highest desire for great media and are far more likely to pay for those photos, precisely because they don't have the giant lineup of photogs reaching out every day.
A couple things I wish I'd mentioned in the vid!
Cheers for the thought Podjepo, appreciate it and hope this vid still brought you some helpful value :)

Yeah, as a photographer/Videographer I learn to use the product that I truly like and incorporate their product in my shoots or use it as I would anyway.

I tried with a few brands. To do one of my services with them for extra reach. Doing photowalks and represent their brand/cameras. They where interested. But it always fell apart. I get it tho. I photograph in my own style, my own subjects and I never would change that.

Fair enough! I definitely should have mentioned in this video the fact that having deals fall through happens ALL the time. Sometimes it's something in your pitch or your rates or communication that is causing the brand to hesitate, but other times it's just the brand dealing with their media budget or dropping the ball for nothing to do with you! The key especially early on is just to keep at it and reach out to enough brands to account for the fall throughs :)
Much respect for doing it your way and for giving it a shot!

I appreciate this video, thank you. I would love to see more on this subject. One of those AI editing companies wants to collab with me but I don’t have a clue how to put a media kit together. I’m a millennial, I barely know what social media is lol.
Also, I wouldn’t hate it if there were a couple more inches between you and the camera. It’s a bit close 😂. Lol

    • @SignatureEdits
      @SignatureEdits  Год назад +1

😂 100% agree. I actually shot this vid using a TV as the background as a test, and turns out you have to be REAL cropped in to make that happen haha
Thanks for the comment! Honestly I think the best place to start with a company reaching out (which is a warm lead instead of a cold one) would be to just have a conversation & ask them a few questions, rather than just guess at what they might want.
-What do they want the photos to achieve?
-How many photos are they looking for?
      -How many scenes / models?
-Do you have a media budget in mind?
And then you can give them a ballpark of whatever you'd charge "my rates normally start around $500 flat rate for the shoot, and $75 per photo for universal unlimited licensing. But depending on what you need we can come up with something that fits your budget. if this sounds like it's in your budget, let's book in a call where we can chat details and get everything booked in"
That would probably be my approach!

@@SignatureEdits that’s hysterical! I didn’t even notice the TV lol. You should just print an out of focus photo in a giant poster or paper backdrop lol. I’m sure there’s someone one Etsy capitalizing on that lol.

I have quite a collection of athletes wearing XYZ brand and I'm pretty sure the brand would love to use those photos for their marketing/socials. I mean, they didn't have to travel to [destination] to capture these athletes using their product so it has to be worth SOMETHING, right? :)
