Let'sdig18 is going to be upset with you all putting the bells facing down hill lol great video thanks for sharing have a great day and stay safe out there
it's funny how his videos burn into your brain: Don't go into the swamp without mats and the bells are suppose to face upriver! Let's just blame this one on TMBS, he was on the ground with the pipes! Of Course we all know, the MBTS will say he had them aligned correctly and Mr. Dirt turn them around!
Hi Mike, When you first notice a problem with the final drive, better to stop working and pull the face plate off the planetary to see what's up. Mine started making the crunchie sound and I stopped and took the cover plate off to find a small needle bearing wasted. It cost about $68 to repair. If you keep working the machine the planetary will destroy itself and require total replacement. Mega bucks!
Good morning guys. Mike you're right you can't complain about the 120 with the hours you have on it. When I go to cut trees always have extra chains. Take care and have a blessed week.
Hi nice to see the 120 working man that thumb held that big pice of sand stone I am sorry to hear that the 120 is going back to the shop before she comes out splash some paint on the counter weight to pretty her up.
Dirt Perfect , I thought there was a reason you were running them backwards. Man with some experience doesn't make that kind of mistake. I believe it's all in what the pipe will end in is the key. Lol
We've used a lot of different grease from our farm equipment to our construction equipment and trucks and the best grease for the money that we've found has been Lucas grease. We use the Red and Tacky for pins and bushings and other slow moving parts and the Lucas Heavy Duty on U-Joints and other fast moving parts and truck chasis.
I think we have had the same luck this harvest. Dryer, combine, trucks, tractors, auger and then repeat, lol I'm told that is what makes our days exciting 😏😎
TRC grease has been around a long time, it sticks better than anything else. They used to put a bit on a steel table and hit it with a hammer to show it didn't shoot out everywhere but stuck to the table and the hammer. Always like the videos, Keep smiling
I've dropped a lot of trees and you did a great job of dropping that tree where you wanted it. Not sure exactly where youre at but my dad use to own a lot on the Ohio river west of Rising sun. So seeing the barges in the back ground brought back some memories of camping on the river.
I got me a t-shirt in the mail the other day , it's got DIRT on it,and it is PERFECT. I also got a surprise in the bag, a Dirt Perfect sticker. Thank you sir , it will look great on my dirty old suburban.
Great job falling the tree. You laid it down right where you wanted it. I was amazed at the strength the 120 has with the thumb. Good luck getting her fixed up and back out on the job site.
Don't matter if they're 50yrs or 50min old, they all can and inevitably do break. My machine developed a leak around pto shaft with 13hrs on it because it had sat for 2years on a dealers lot. You make do, you fix it, you keep on moving dirt. Keep up the great work you two 😋👍
Mike she is just a little sick and now you just have too take it back and make her feel better, but it was awesome to see the old girl working. see y'all on the next one take care stay safe god bless, oh and get MBTS some leg extensions 🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣
I agree, the JD does 'look better ' than the Volvo on the job. MBTS 'thinks' he looks better but he's sorely out classed by comparison, lol. Love the way you two joke, makes your vids more laid back. Hate to see 'the ol girl' back in the shop but you'll have her back at it soon enough. Have a great day and thanks for sharing.
Nice work and the trees went where you needed them to go. Your '120' is quite the worker and DON'T beat yourself up over it. Glad it didn't happen at Jason's house or elsewhere. (not sure if his house was before this job or after. Anywho, it will get done. Stay safe and thanks for another one. Sonny (CT)
I like Trc grease. The crown and chassis 880 is what I use. The paragon 3000 is great too. 880 is more a universal grease. So I am only stocking 1 grease and not putting wrong grease in something other than hydraulic hammer grease. I had a swing drive that started leaking and I pumped it full of Trc grease until I could fix it.
Boom on the 120 looks nice n tight Mike 👍 1) Could you not wind the pressure up or adjust the relief valve on the thumb of the Volvo to bite more like the 120? 2) At certain times, I noticed it more at the beginning of the video than at the end, I thought the engine on the 120 sounded to be over revving a bit? 3) I bet you missed the blade on the Volvo when you were pushing the brush up? 4) Nice when you've got 2 machines isn't it? Down side is, double the machines, double the bills & double the diesel !!
Great video Mr. Dirt Perfect. I was surprised that the 120 was able to move that huge stone. That machine has a lot of power, I can see why you like it so much.
My son asked me if you two are a couple now I just laughed so hard I couldn't answer him and I agree with Dirty I'm the same way I'm finishing the job unless something is going to hurt someone or destroy the machine I'm finishing my job those customers are everything to us small contractors every and any good words or bad words from our customers is everything to us this is why we treat them with the utmost respect and beyond thumbs up my friends all machines brake I hate all of them equally and there's not one of them I like better than the other because if you love it it will so so back fire on you lol LOL lol ya'll peace my people
Logger Wade and Puddin needed on Isle 1. "This chainsaw does not like me" . Lol ....That was just bad luck with the power drive going out. Prayers Both Machines are running soon.
Logger wade needs to take ya'll a bunch of his chains to sharpen and then teach you two how to sharpen them. I can't really say much though, I used to be just as bad. Until I had to rely on the chainsaw to open up roads after a hurricane - that learned me a lesson real quick. Stay safe, stay healthy, and have a good one guys.
I use Phillips Megaplex XD3 / XD5 or Shell Gadus for grease. Any EP 2 grease with moly in it (black grease) will do the trick really. I'd shy away from stuff like Lucas red and tacky... don't get me wrong, it's great grease but isn't quite up to snuff for this kind of application, the shits wheel bearing grease not pin/bushing grease. I find after a good 10 hr day, I've got one or more pins that have started squawking that I've had to jump out and feed more grease before the days over when I was using anything else
Main drives have an expected MTBF of around 10,000 hours. You did great getting 12,000 hours out of your drives! The other drive will most likely fail soon, so you might as well replace both at the same time. It is better to do preventative maintenance than to have down time on a job.
Like u said the drive has a lot of hours on them so it's time to replace them both because if one gone the other isn't far behind to break down .Good luck fixing both of them. Great video 📹 👍
Hopefully there not bonfig hubs. Sk bearings from USA dont last but German ones wear great in them. Same part number but different manufacturing plants. Had the pleasure to do the job twice from the learning curve.
Friend of mine owns a drilling company (He was my last real job before i started my company) and still has a 120 like yours ... has around 5,000hrs i think ..... rusted bad and undercarriage is about to fall off but still strong as a mule ..... he had up to a few years ago couple 490Es laying around ...... I dont mind running the older iron but i sure do like the updates in my `130G .... #makindirtylookgood #clearpros
I’m only 5mins in so apologies if you cover this. Why do you think the thumb is so much better is it mechanical advantage due to the design of the linkage or hydraulic power of the cylinder? Do you think you could improve the thumb power on the Volvo?
You need to check the x1 pressure for the thumb on your Volvo. It should be set at 2500 psi. If not that's why it is weak. I have put on at least 50 hyd thumbs on Volvo equipment and never a complaint.
you probably have the want to be CAT fixed by now but the sudden onset of track drive problems could be a plugged port in the pilot valve for the track drive circuit, take the time to do some pressure and flow checks before throwing parts at it
All u can do is take a deep breath and continue with getting it fixed and do what u can. It dont matter what brand y have it will break down. Great job and I agree with ur decision.
You might know this but if not I have a tip for judging where the top of a tree will land for future occasions. If you imagine the tree is going to fall from nine o'clock or three o'clock depending on the room you have. If you go out quite a distance at what would be the six o'clock position and get a twig or piece of straw and holding your arm straight out in front of you with the bottom of twig at the point where tree enters the ground then snip it off at where your eye perceives the exact top of the tree, then keeping the bottom of twig lined up with the bottom tilt it over till horizontal with the ground then where the top of the twig stops that is where the top of the tree will hit. You could try it once and put a stake in the ground where you see the twig stop and I guarantee it will be exact. Mind put your mind at rest in future doubtful situations. If you knew this I apologize for the length of my comment. But if not I know it will help you, which is my intention. Us old guys been around awhile and learned some tricks.
Could it just be that the Volvo 140 thumb pressure is turned down ? I know that most machines come that way so the operator doesn’t overpower the main bucket cylinder and damage it. Love the videos !
I know that's frustrating, but it usually works out in the long run. At least it's something different. Mine is usually, "I bet that's where that leftover part went."
can I ask some of those small.trees you pulled easy out the root balls why not replant them.dwn the site they would help hold the soil and get some shade
Well the old 120 is still a heck of a machine, she just needs a few more parts replaced. I guess she is just like me, I need a new back and and a new hip and a couple of new knees, thanks to college football, I'm falling apart.
Great video Mr Dirt Perfect and Aaron
Let'sdig18 is going to be upset with you all putting the bells facing down hill lol great video thanks for sharing have a great day and stay safe out there
Chris would probably just say it has a better chance of leaking in 10 years
Yep, the bell should always point uphill. Common sense really.
I thought the same thing. pipe is in backwards
it's funny how his videos burn into your brain: Don't go into the swamp without mats and the bells are suppose to face upriver! Let's just blame this one on TMBS, he was on the ground with the pipes! Yep just like in plumbing a sewer line I hope he dosen't plumb them that way Turd catchers it plumbed backwards.
Going through all your old videos, watching them very good content
Michael I really like watching your channel love watching you and the guys
Thanks
Great job running the excavator Mr Dirt Perfect
Thanks
That was an impressive move with that huge rock. Now I understand the affinity for that machine.
I enjoyed seeing the 120 back so much I watched this video 2 1/2 times. Thanks for the excellent video keep em coming ole boy
Thanks buddy

Oh man that sucks Mike. When it rains it pours. Hopefully you can get both machines back in service. Without to much expense and headache. God bless
God bless and be safe I have you all in my prayers
Thanks John

Hi nice to see the 120 working man that thumb held that big pice of sand stone I am sorry to hear that the 120 is going back to the shop before she comes out splash some paint on the counter weight to pretty her up.
Shouldn’t the bell end be facing uphill?
I noticed the same thing.
Sorry there is a reason for that will let you guys figure it out
This is a future let's dig18 repair video. Lol

thanks for keeping it real, partner. Just remember, if it's got t!ts, tracks or tires it'll give you problems!
lol yup
😂😂
If nothing else they at least got some great camping footage. 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🤠🤠
Great video as always and eagerly looking forward to part 2. Hope she’s not too unwell, the digger that is.
Thanks
sorry to hear about the machine trouble good luck on the fixing, at least you have a nice shop to work in
Great job falling the tree. You laid it down right where you wanted it. I was amazed at the strength the 120 has with the thumb. Good luck getting her fixed up and back out on the job site.
Thanks
Sounds like you got my luck if I didn’t have bad luck I’d have none keep up the great work and videos

The 120 digs like a beast..To bad it needing to go back to the shop.At least you have a good shop to do the repairs.
Great job Mr Dirt Perfect and Aaron
"you owned that rock, go ahead and take it home with ya" love it
Mike she is just a little sick and now you just have too take it back and make her feel better, but it was awesome to see the old girl working. see y'all on the next one take care stay safe god bless, oh and get MBTS some leg extensions 🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣

It is back on the job now. This was filmed two months ago. I was wondering the same thing so I asked.
Get well soon 120
😁
I’ve been using that Texas refinery grease for about ten years on my farm and have had good luck with it.
Nice work and the trees went where you needed them to go. Your '120' is quite the worker and DON'T beat yourself up over it. Glad it didn't happen at Jason's house or elsewhere. I can see John deer have gone on strike October 15 th have a great weekend boys
Keep up the great videos man always waiting for you or let’s dig to upload videos all the way from Australia 🇦🇺
I'm glad to see the 120 back at work but I miss the sound of the floppy bucket. Lol.
Lol
It sucks about the final drive but if you replace one go ahead and replace both
You can fix it Michael! You guys are great.😊
Amazed still how it just worked that big ol rock....
i have just seen this video to the end I think a paint job is the least of your worry’s at the moment
I like Trc grease. The crown and chassis 880 is what I use. The paragon 3000 is great too. 880 is more a universal grease. 😂😂😂
True
I can't be for certain because video sometimes show things in reverse but it seems to me that when you install the pipe the mail was facing uphill
Stuff happens that you can’t control but you will fix it and you will be happy again 👍😎🇺🇸NY
I almost miss the bucket wobbling and making the klunk klunk noise ..... not really it's working great
lol thanks
Yes that's sometimes is tough when you price a job you always got to put in how much machinery is to be replaced
Great video Mr. Dirt Perfect. I was surprised that the 120 was able to move that huge stone. That machine has a lot of power, I can see why you like it so much.
Thanks
Watching the 120 lift and swing that rock, that was impressive!
Yes it was
Keep up the good work. Breakdowns are just part of it.

yes they are a couple of friends a couple of jokers a couple of good people. *snickers
😂😂😂
I use Schaeffers oil and grease. Its tacky and ends up everywhere like antisieze, but its great stuff.
That huge rock/boulder would be nice right out side your front door for you to stand out on
Mike says he don't need no rock to be outstanding!
Lol

She handled that big ol rock no problem. Welcome back 120.
😁
Laying pipe backwards?! Cmon dirt perfect!
Great job love your videos thank you
Thanks
Good call on using 120, in beginning of video you said could've probably pulled it off with 304. That rock would've stop ya dead in your tracks. 👏💪
Yup
Man behind the scenes rocks the house
👍🏻💪🏼
Like u said the drive has a lot of hours on them so it's time to replace them both because if one gone the other isn't far behind to break down .Good luck fixing both of them. Great video 📹 👍
Shouldn't the bells face upwards on that pipe or do they seal well enough that it doesn't matter for that type of pipes?
Bells always always uphill no exemption
Hopefully there not bonfig hubs. Sk bearings from USA dont last but German ones wear great in them. Same part number but different manufacturing plants. Had the pleasure to do the job twice from the learning curve.
Bushing/coupler that couples the hydraulic motor to the gears wears the spline out, replace other side too axles are 9 out of 10 times good.

Break downs are all about owning your own business. You're doing great Mr. Dirt Perfect.
Well hindsight is 2020. A man’s got to do what a man’s got to do when he first thinks of it.
We have been using hydro-tec in all of our equipment for years. Haven't any bearing failures!
I would sharpen the chain with a side grinder.
That grease is very good. Use it everyday. Expensive but grease is the cheapest maintenance you can do
Hello Henry Wilson here. Do you have to rip those trees out, we should keep as many trees as possible, they give off oxigen witch is good for us.
Yes
I’m only 5mins in so apologies if you cover this. Why do you think the thumb is so much better is it mechanical advantage due to the design of the linkage or hydraulic power of the cylinder? Do you think you could improve the thumb power on the Volvo?
All the above to be honest
That is some good grease 120 looks good on the job
Thanks
Would have seriously considered laying the rock flat side up and using it as a platform to watch the river from.
Stay tuned
That 120 looks good working tight as a new machine! I know you put a lot in it but it will give it back
You need to check the x1 pressure for the thumb on your Volvo. It should be set at 2500 psi. If not that's why it is weak. I have put on at least 50 hyd thumbs on Volvo equipment and never a complaint.
It’s 2600
Sometimes the luck just falls the other way.Nothing you can do. You'll be back at it.
you probably have the want to be CAT fixed by now but the sudden onset of track drive problems could be a plugged port in the pilot valve for the track drive circuit, take the time to do some pressure and flow checks before throwing parts at it
Nope none of the above
Another great video, the 120 will be ok with a little TLC . Kevin
Thanks buddy
All u can do is take a deep breath and continue with getting it fixed and do what u can. It dont matter what brand y have it will break down. Great job and I agree with ur decision.
Yup I agree
Well you got to work the start of the job with the120 before the breakdown!!
You might know this but if not I have a tip for judging where the top of a tree will land for future occasions. If you imagine the tree is going to fall from nine o'clock or three o'clock depending on the room you have. Still laughing at them laying pipe backwards, lmao.
I've used that grease, and seemed to be a good grease, I still have a tube or two left from when I retired.

I know that most machines come that way so the operator doesn’t overpower the main bucket cylinder and damage it.
Love the videos !
No it’s been checked
Bummer for sure. But just think how strong she's gonna come back for job #3 !
Is there a particular reason you like to put the bell on the downhill side?
What I need to make it would in the other end
I know that's frustrating, but it usually works out in the long run. At least it's something different. Mine is usually, "I bet that's where that leftover part went."
Awesome Job!!

can I ask some of those small.trees you pulled easy out the root balls why not replant them.dwn the site they would help hold the soil and get some shade
