- Hard data suggests that UN peacekeeping missions succeed most of the time. They significantly reduce civilian casualties, shorten conflicts, and help make peace agreements stick.
In two thirds of completed missions since the Cold War, UN peacekeepers, who are recruited from many different countries around the world, have succeeded in fulfilling their mandate. In short, in the majority of cases, peacekeeping works.

Short answer : no
Yep, it promotes “negative peace”. Instead, delaying violence with a buffer zone without the authority to negotiate legally binding peace treaties. What needs to happen for true peace is not *just* reactionary peacekeeping, but *additionally* active demilitarization of EVERY sovereign state. While increasing their peacekeeping (military) power (albeit ironically, but necessary) AND increasing the sovereignty over the military. Before conservatives and passive liberals shout one-world-government, I actually think the current UN is too involved in economics with the WTO, IMF, & World Bank. The UN *should* be the entity it was designed to be and PREVENT ALL future warz. If you disagree and think war is needed for the “balance of power” well bye. You should be protesting against the very idea of the UN. Now that it’s clear, how do we achieve this with adequate reforms, without going full big-brother?

A 1996 UN study revealed, ‘In six out of 12 country studies on sexual exploitation of children in situations of armed conflict prepared for the present report, the arrival of peacekeeping troops has been associated with a rapid rise in child prostitution.’217
- In 2001, UN Peacekeeper Kathryn Bolkovac publicly exposed an elite underage sex trafficking operation in Bosnia involving the UN, US State Department, US Military, and DynCorp International (a global private military contractor funded by the US federal government).218
- In 2017, investigative journalists revealed, 114 UN Peacekeepers ran a child sex ring in Haiti for a decade but were never imprisoned.
