    One of the nicest kayaks I've seen. Thanks for the ideas!

      You're welcome nolidge1016. I've benefitted from others sharing their ideas and I'm just trying to keep it going.

    Hey Brandon, thanks for the question. My current (or second battery) battery I chose, is a full size Optima deep cycle D27M. It powers all of my electrical needs and lasts all day. One of the main reasons I chose this one is because it’s sealed and I can lay it down inside the rear hatch and close the lid.

    ....great work! That long uncut trolling motor shaft might hold an all-around light ;) Thanks for inspiration!

      You're welcome Kayley! I think my next mod is going to be to create a lift system so I can deploy and raise the motor from my seat. It will definitely help in the shallows :)

    I really like your vaseline idea, in order to keep n n the foot pedal tracks smooth. Could you please tell me how that held up?

    • @davidlipe3126
      @davidlipe3126  4 года назад +1

      Hey Zach, the Vaseline on the foot brace tracks still works to eliminate the chatter from steering movement. It does need to be wiped off after use as it will attract dirt. There has been no negative effect on the plastic.

    How did your kayak hold up after a year as far as the wear and tear on the bottom and sides any holes if you get a chance to get back to me that would be great I like your trolling motor set up nice work CATCH.PHOTO.RELEASE

      Raymond Suckow Thanks Raymond. Great question! I did notice one time after dragging the keel when loading, it did have a flat spot. Because of this small incident and recognizing this yak (2015 model) to be a softer plastic than others I've seen, I've been adamant to not drag it on the ground. Using the dolly is a must, especially given the weight when loaded with my gear. There has been little wear and tear damage to my yak, even the motor mount area is holding up well. I hope the info helps.

    You did a great job. I'm in the process of mounting my trolling motor. I think I'm going to copy you. :/ lol was it hard to reconnect your trolling motor head? I was going to mount it on the side but i think it'll get in my way.

      cool kayak Thanks Cool Kayak, I appreciate the comments! :) I hesitated at first mainly because it was a new motor and I was afraid to void the warranty. Knowing now how easy it was to do and the extreme performance improvement the rear mount makes, I wish I had done it sooner. This mod will take some electrical experience in connecting wires and waterproofing the connections, but if you can do that you should be good to go! Have fun and good luck!

    What is its max speed?

    • @davidlipe3126
      @davidlipe3126  8 лет назад

      Fully loaded with all fishing gear and the trolling motor in back, it will top out at 4mph and track straight as an arrow. Check out my other two vids (Trial run, and Extreme Manuverability. When I had the motor side mounted, it would go about 3.8mph. The tracking was off and tight space navigation was much more difficult.

      As far as Ocean ventures go, I couldn't make any motor recommendations. I do know different trolling motor manufacturers make saltwater versions. I only have experience with Minnkota freshwater versions. Good Luck with your Yakking adventures!

      Just find a local metal / fab shop and take your yak with you and tell them what you need.
