    The halva and the cif cef are switched. The one that melts in your mouth is halva, which is made of sesame. It's kind of like the tahini paste, hardened and sweetened. The one that looks like poki is kif kef.
    Shabbat is the Holy day, and the end of the week, just like Sunday. It started Friday night and ends Saturday night, because the Jewish days start when the sun goes down.
    And the marzipan is just almond taste, with lots of sugar, no other flavor added.

      @@NikkigandCo I would look for "raw tahini" in health food stores. It's just a denser version of the tahini paste they had in the video, you mix it with some water and add a bit of lemon, salt to taste, and you get perfect tahini sauce. One jar of raw tahini is good for 2-3 jars of tahini sauce, depending on desired sauce thickness.

      Sabbath a day of religious observance and abstinence from work, kept by
      Jews from Friday evening to Saturday evening, and by most Christians on
      Sunday.
      Alot of those looked good and awesome I wish I could try some!

      To add a bit about the Sabbath. The Jewish Sabbath is called Shabbat and it starts during the night because the Jewish calendar is based around the moon, unlike the Christian/Gregorian which is a solar calendar, thus the days start at sundown, rather then sunrise.
      Also, the Challah bread is pronounced closer to Ha-lah.
      Awesome episode by the way.

      TabiEats Challah is similar in taste to brioche.

    • @PamelaProPeace

      An explanation why Shabbat starts at night is because we believe that when the world was created FIRST there was darkness and THEN there was light (the sun; "Let there be light") and so a 24 hour period is measured the same, first dark then light.
      You are right about the lunar calendar as far as the months go but the early Jews figured out that they had to factor in the solar one as well. So we have solar years! That way the festivals stay in roughly the same place each year. We have a lunisolar calendar - isn't that cool?

    Here's how you should eait Tahini:
    mix one spoon of tahini with a spoon of lemon juice and 2 spoons of water, add salt and some chopped dill or any other kind of herb, and you got yourself a lovely treat.
    I suggest spreading it on toasted bread with fresh tomatos and avocado, it's an amazing match!
    Enjoy :)

    Hey! I'm an Israeli viewer, glad you like the things you got. Was a surprise for me to see bamba here:). You both have a great channel, I always dig learning new things about other cultures. Here are a few suggestions to help you enjoy the things you got
    Tehini - used mostly either as a savoury spread, with lemon, salt and sometimes garlic - or as a sweet spread. some eat it as is like you did though, i like it as well.
    There is also a dish that has grilled/baked eggplants coverd with tehini - which is the reason for the picture on the bottle. .Also popular - tehini cookies. tastes kinda like a less intense peanut butter cookie.
    Halva - is basically a seseme candy, made with tehini and suger. That's the thicker bar you had.
    -The pocky sticks - it's reletievely new, it's just a biscuit (no seseme this time :)) Definitly inspired by pocky.
    -Bamba - theres also bamba filled with hazelnut cream, that was created after people started putting some nutella on it. highly recomneded.
    And... Kabanos - is the name for this type of sausage. sausage in hebrew is ''Naknik''.

      Challah is not pronounced Hallah. The only people who say it that way are people who gave up on trying to pronounce it properly, which is like KH, like the ch in the proper pronunciation of a Scottish Loch. It's difficult for people who didnt grow up with that sound, so they say Hallah, Hannukah, etc, when the real way to say it is Chhhallah, Chhhanukah, Chhharoses, Pesachhh, etc. It's a sound you feel in the back of your throat.

    • @HikaruRain
      @HikaruRain 4 года назад

      Good to know I was not the only one. I was actually verbally correcting them out loud on how to pronounce it correctly. And I only know how due to my Jewish friends who taught me how to say it correctly in college. XD

    • @Yeeren
      @Yeeren 3 года назад

      Technically pronounced with a "ח" (that's a Hebrew khet/chet, not a Latin n), which makes a throaty sound similar to Russian kh (as in "Khrushchev"), Dutch g (as in "Gouda") or Spanish j (as in "jamon") that is absent in most Latin languages and from Japanese. The C in "Challa" comes from "ch" being used to transcribe the letter khet.

  • @andrewa312
    @andrewa312 7 лет назад +2

    The Tahini bottle has an eggplant on it because it goes very good with oven-baked eggplants - I recommend cutting the eggplants in half, making diagonal cuts inside of it to create "cubes" (still attached at the base), sprinkling a tiny bit of salt and splashing some olive oil on it, throwing them in the oven until they're cooked thoroughly, let cool for just a bit, drizzle as much Tahini as you like on top of it and enjoy!

    As an Israeli - this was so great ,seeing the reactions!
    Here's some much needed explanation:
    You read something wrong -
    the Kif Kef fun sticks came after the Barake snack with pecans (the order was wrong)
    and the snack itself is a substance called Halva - a sweet made from sesame seeds
    Tehina-the sesame seed paste is usually not eaten raw, but mixed with garlic, lemon juice into a runnier texture and eaten as a bread topping
    The Kif Kef fun sticks are rather new in Israel and I also thought it's a take on Poky
    Kabanus is a general name of sausage stick snacks.

    • @PamelaProPeace
      @PamelaProPeace 7 лет назад

      Neta - you need to read the other comments. :) Your points have been well covered! The last two were my mistake - I reversed the order on the explanation sheet. And you could also read the labelling on the Tehina. I sent that one because it said specifically that you could eat it straight from the container! It says on the front of the bottle in Hebrew - "so tasty and velvety that is possible to eat just as it is"!

    the tahini you were given is a tahini paste that you need to mix with water until it gets liquid (and less dark), and then also mix it with lemon juice, salt and parsley. usually in every meal that includes tahini, the paste is made that way.

    Shalom Guys from Israel. Thanks, enjoyed watching. No 3 the Tahini is not served like you tasted it. You take one cup of Tahini and one cup of water mix well, dont worry if it doesnot look good. You can use food processor for this. After you dilut the Tahini with water add juice of half a lemon and 1 garlic clove salt and peper. it should be white colour and not thick. You may add more water. Add parsley to garnish. Use it on vegetables or dip in Pitta or bread. Enjoy!!

    The Halva bars (with the pecans) are made of sesame, just like the Tahina.
    As for Tahina, I'd recommend mixing some of it with some salt and freshly squeezed lemon juice (usually requires a considerable amount of it). Add the lemon juice bit by bit while mixing. It first it'll turn a bit brown and get a bit chunky, looks weird, keep adding lemon and mixing, and it'll turn to a smooth whitish texture. If it's too lemony, you can add a bit of water. This can also be used as dressing for many things, you can eat it as it is, or, what I like to do, is chop two tomatoes, add 2-3 tbsp of it to the tomatoes and eat that, which is great for my taste buds!

    The sabbath is the day of rest for the Jewish people. It’s very similar to the Christian sabbath on sundays however the Jewish one starts on Friday at sunset and ends on Saturday when the stars come out. The reason it’s timed like this is because the in Jewish calendar the day starts at night. On the sabbath we must rest and not work, and it’s also good family bonding time with big meals.

    Halva = made from flour with sugar that is processed together
    Tahini = made from oil and ground sesame
    Therefore halva is actually sweet tahini

    Usually in Israel we also mix thina with lemon juice and salt and sometimes with water, garlic and parsley

    mix #2 and #3 together. 1 part tehina, 1 part silan. Gently heat in a pan and mix. It makes a yummy sweet, savory spread!

    Someone probably wrote it down for you already, but I'll write it again- the Barka treat (which is called "Halva") is usually made from sesame tahini (no milk and no peanuts :) )
    It was pure fun watching you guys!
    Greetings from Israel :)

    I used to live in an Israeli neighborhood in Brooklyn and I've tried some of these--the popping chocolate, the fried egg shaped candy and the Halva sesame bars!! All very delicious!! I should probably gather up a collection of some Puerto Rican snacks and have you guys try them out!!
    (PS: 6:47..... 🙇申し訳ないですけど、サトシさんの爆笑とシンイチさんのリアクション……!😄😄😄 ちょっと危な〜いイメージが浮かんじゃった……*ahem* 失礼しました… My hubby and I were cracking up along with Satoshi-san!! Just a silly comment!!)

    Did you guys ever find out what the fun sticks were? Because I will tell you it is “halva” and it’s made with sesame seed paste like the tahina you had and it’s sweetened with sugar or honey and nuts and then pressed into bars making a candy. It’s very popular all over the Middle East and Turkey and Greece.

    If you ever get to try real Challah bread you will love it!! And it makes an AMAZING French toast! It's also very fun to make. It's tender and slightly flaky and buttery and has a hint of honey. Amazing. Marzipan me no likely. Lol. It's almond flavor usually.

  • @omerk789

    The Tahini you got is the raw sesame paste of a cold press and it's almost never used on its own.
    Basic Tahini sauce is made by emulsifying the raw Tahini with roughly an equal amount of cold water and then mixing in some lemon juice, salt and garlic...

  • @nir766
    @nir766 6 лет назад +1

    you should mix the tehina with watter ,salt ,and lemon choose .
    you can mix the tehinah with the silan and make cakes .

    The Tahini flavor is different because it's usually made from raw sesame seeds instead of toasted sesame seeds.

    Ah the marzipan has the taste of almonds I think
    The halva is nutty and sesame
    The dates paste is good for cooking with all sorts of dishes enhances the sweet taste
    Kabanos is a type of sausage which will not spoil if not refrigerated until consumption

    SOME NOTES from Israeli fan:
    1. Shabbat is the Holly day in the week for Jews when you are not aloud to do any sort of work and only to rest. Before Shabbat we make food and on Friday night we eat a big meal.
    It is as you figured out from friday night to saturday night (In the Hebrew Calendar the days switch when stars come out.
    2. you confused the Halva snack and the Kif-Kef Sticks.

  • @el1nati
    @el1nati 7 лет назад +2

    in jewish tradition the day start at the evening before when 3 stars are out, so saturday night starts at friday evening. saturday is a holiday for jews

    Seventh Day Adventists (a protestant Christian denomination) also keep the Sabbath. As others have said, it goes form sundown friday night to sundown saturday night and is a time for worship, rest, and family. For us it's also a great day for Potluck, when people bring dishes together to share. You get an eclectic mix of things to eat and try!

    The Bamba peanut snacks (#1) are very similar to our german Erdnussflips (Erdnuss = Peanut), they are made of corn but insted of the ground peanuts we use to flavor them (plus some spices and salt), israel apparently uses peanut butter, the taste is supposed to be petty much the same though.

    ok so I have few suggestions: for the black date honey you can try it with clotted cream or with mascarpone cheese on bread it's divine. for the tahini you can use it to make humus or baba ganoush and please tell me you know what these are as they are famous world wide, alternatively you can add the date honey to the tahini half/half and dip the bread in and indulge. also you can use the tahini to make tahini dipping which would go great with fish, grilled meat and chicken.

    • @TabiEats
      @TabiEats 7 лет назад
