Thunderforce AC came out today on switch courtesy of M2/Sega Ages.. they have a "new" mode option with zero slowdown. Lots of options. I find it very difficult even at full brightness to keep track of my ship sometimes and that's the same issue I had with thunderforce 4. That said, I got up to stage 5 and saved it and will finish it a bit later. It's, ok. If the graphics were clearer it would be SO much better. I guess I don't really like the thunderforce series all that much, so once again I am in the minority. I would have bought it anyway as I buy all Sega ages to support Sega and do my part in keeping the series alive for the future.
Thank you for this review! Since AC was released on Switch, I wanted to see what the difference of stages 4 and 5 were between the original and the arcade version. I'm actually kinda glad that they were replaced with more balanced levels, but I wish they could have been included just for the sake of experience.
Cool review! Did you know about the 3DS version of Thunder Force III? It was included on the final SEGA 3D Classics compilation cartridge in Japan after SEGA purchased all of Tecno Softs' IP. It was ported by M2 and given the usual high quality of their SEGA 3DS ports, I expect that it is the definitive version of the game. The parallax scrolling probably looks amazing in 3D. There's no official word on if it will get a North American release, but for what it is worth, the Miiverse page for the Japanese game is called "SEGA 3D Classics Collection 2" in English, so hopefully this gets localized.
Wow that slipped by me! I've looked over the games included in the 2 Japan only releases but I missed that. This would be awesome if the 3DS wasn't region locked :( The only real way to play it would require a Japanese 3DS right? I do have a homebrewed 3DS that supposedly can launch carts from any region but I have yet to try it/
In Thunder Spirits you can hold select and press start at the title screen to access a secret menu. There you can enable rapid fire, change difficulty settings, choose between mono/ stereo and also adjust controls or speed. Alas, no music selection. Then again, Thunder Force III sounds better anyway. Cheers

The sounds of the weapons are unique and outstanding.
Thanks for this review. I wondered about the missing stages from 3 on ac. I love TF3 and beat it many times. Just got ac in the switch. Great video !!
To unlock the menu on the Saturn version hold down A and press start
Thunder Force 3 is one of my favourite Sega Mega Drive / Genesis game 👍

+Kijiji Greg love M2's work. I really wish it would come to NA. They're 3DS port of After Burner II is the definitive version.

Homebrew might work.

This is the first gaming pastime vid I've seen where the voice-over guy's voice sounds different
And how do you unlock the cheat menu for Thunder Force AC on saturn? I have been trying to figure out how but with no luck
Don't feel bad...I don't think many people ever beat Thunder Force II without some implemented cheat.
