Yay, someone at CA who actually says "stop the multi-episode-storyline non-sense". Because I really don't like that stuff, either. If I watch a review (even a comedic one), then I want to watch it for the review.
Yeah, it makes reviews tougher to watch on their own. I'm alright with re-occurring characters, but storylines are weird. It's a review, not a serial!
It's why I stopped watching ERod and Linkara, really. I don't mind them now and then, but holy hell, some of them do go way overboard. I wouldn't say never have storylines again, but...put them in a separate video. People who want to watch them could probably follow them better that way, anyway.
I wonder if that was a dig at Linkara?
Only time I think an overarching storyline is okay is if it's a multi-part review where it's like oh I'm going to review all of a series or something like that and the storyline is only in the series then it makes sense but otherwise I don't need to see 5 completely random reviews to get some stupid thing you think is creative.
Really it just comes off as cringey as youre creating essentially fanfiction for your online reviewer persona.
Never mind ripping off Happy Feet. The plotline about the stolen egg/newly hatched baby bird mistaking first thing it sees for its parents was filched directly from several Loony Tunes cartoons.
If you had an evil coffee mug, it'd have the Reese's logo on the front.

What is extraordinary to me is how dated this looks. I was born in 1970, and to me this animation has the look of a cheap Christmas special cira 1975. The opening titles look twenty years older still.

...but NC doesnt have story segments. There are references and links to movies and past episodes but it feels minimal.
More the whole team that formed around Channel Awesome. The Critic himself doesn't do long running stories except for special events, but many of the others do. Linkara's are the most elaborate and time-consuming, though fans would also say the most interesting to watch. The review-with-stories format has been around at least since MST3K.
I would consider all the parts surrounding the reviews to be story segments. All the little segments and skits that he, Tamara and Malcolm partake in. To be quite honest, I don't find them interesting at all.
Fun fact: the Happy Feet movies are by the same director as the Mad Max movies. He also directed Babe 2: Pig in the City.

As someone with Aspergers - no. It's not an Autism thing. I don't know what it is, but a typically Autistic thing would probably be more like lots of research and nit-picking. I also highly doubt that they all have Autism.

He stupidly thinks people watch his videos to see a fat man dress in a bad Power Rangers costume and bark orders at his pretend spaceship's computer and make himself feel special...
its called 1.) suspension of disbelief and 2.) not watching the ends of videos which is where most of his story content is other than about half a minute or less in the beginning. also the reason he does the story stuff is because he enjoys making this story and other people do as well. just because someone makes a video with special effects and acts (no matter how poor or well done), it doesn't mean they have a mental disability.

Thank you for saying that. I can stand skits, but when an Internet critic rolls out a storyline that has nothing to do with the actual review, I just fucking skip through it. I'm sure they put thought and all into it, but I don't care.

I liked... most of Happy Feet, but the last third was really weird and the environmental message was the least subtle thing I think George Miller has ever written.
(Also, it wasn't a comedy, so not laughing at the beginning of it isn't exactly a dig at it.)
I love how Happy Feet's environmental message is the least subtle thing in a filmography that includes flamethrower guitars and thunderdomes.

In RUclips Movie reviews I find myself skipping ahead on video's when Nostaligia Critic starts going on about some stupid story not really related to the review.
I remember kind of enjoying tappy toes when I saw it way back when.

After watching Happy Feet 2, I have identified exactly ten seconds of funny in it. They are not contiguous, but occur in three sections of 2, 3 and 5 seconds.

I was briefly hopeful in the five-second period as Sven began to sing, which was funny just because it came right out of nowhere. They could have run with that for a few more seconds. Instead it switched straight to the painfully-unfunny krill again.

happy feet part one the better of the two came out in 2006, happy feet 2 2011, so kinda lost at the disconnect of this. And Happy feet was enjoyable for me, agree about the sequel

Movies are expensive to make these days. Even this sort of movie has a budget. Studios survey what has come before, look for things which have proven successful, and make more of the same. Penguin movies are common precisely because they are common: The history of turning a profit reassures studio directors that penguins are a safe investment.
I can think of one seagull movie, one owl movie, one stork movie, two parrot movies and one pigeon movie - but penguin get six movies I can think of right away, as many as all other birds put together, plus their own TV spinoff from the Madagascar franchise.
Personally I think we need more owl movies. Owls are just cool. Violent balloons covered in feathers.
