Yay! I love that you had Melissa on the channel! She’s beautiful, and I appreciate her opinion. Especially since trying to decide which Tom Bihn I’m gonna buy for 1 bag travel. TY.
The things that are special about Tom Bihn bags are (1) the quality of construction and (2) the fact that all the pockets and interior compartments are "lined". Some other bags have good construction quality, but not in every area like these bags (zips are fantastic as is everything else). Also, most other bags do not have every pocket or the interior of the main compartment lined (basically two-wall construction for everything). If you add the fact that these bags are made in the US and that the workers are paid a real salary, then that makes the Tom Bihn bags #1 in my opinion. If we want good US jobs with real wages for the workers, then we need to pay a little more to support companies that have that philosophy. Thank you Tom Bihn for doing your part.
So what you’re saying is that we could get the same quality or better, for a cheaper price, if we go with a different company?
Gotcha
@@jonathanfelso Won't have the same quality as Tom Bihn at a cheaper price. The TB product line is fantastic.
Really good review and I appreciated getting that 2nd point of view. The only other thing I would add is the light weight of the Techonaut 30 which, depending on the fabric, is as light as 2 pounds, 2 ounces. That is really light for a tough premium travel bag with this capacity. That could make a difference if you are doing one bag travel on one of those airlines with a 15 pound carryon limit. Also, The Tom Bihn Synik 30 is actually 30 cubic inches and not 35. I own one and agree completely with what you say about the shoulder straps. They are identical to the ones on the Techonaut. In my opinion they are outstanding.
I love that we got your wife's pov too! I often wonder how a bag will fit or feel since I'm 5'2". You both did great!
Tiny people unite!
I totally swiped that line from you and include it in my signature block at work, "Be yourself, everyone else is taken". You'd be amazed how many co-workers comment on how much they like it. You're the OG Chase! Keep up the phenomenal work.
Can I just say your website is so easy on the eyes and mind! Lovely to navigate. Well done 🙌🏼
It is so cool to know a RUclipsr, then meet their significant other, and go "oh they are perfect for them!" What a great review
I have a Synapse 25 and used it as my one bag to Europe for 10 days. Brilliant bag. I also have a Sidekick for smaller loads, and now an Aeronaut 45 on the way. I have several other non-TB bags as well, but there’s just something about the TB ecosystem with all the pouches and accessories that keep me coming back. I’ve not found another manufacturer/system that works as well for me. Everything is so well made and thought out. I’ll probably own one of these someday. Thanks for the review!
What accessory organizers did you use for your 10 days in Europe with the synapse 25? I just bought one.
@@cynicsupreme I had the Sidekick which served as a tech bag to use at my seat on the plane, a 3D cube organizer for toiletries, and an organizer wallet (I think that’s the name) for my passport. I also had a couple Eagle Creek packing cubes.
Melissa and Chase Reeves? What is this, a crossover episode? Lol but great video, interesting to hear her perspective on the real use of the bag!
Honestly... I’d rock the aeronaut 30 over this bag. I would just get over the fact of the lack of laptop. I’m not a huge sleeve user, but maybe I’d use sleeve for laptop and put it right in bag of the aeronaut. For some reason the aeronaut seems like more space for traveling.
It's a family business now!
I love Tom Bihn products. But I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the Techonaut price. I'm going to check out your links!
great review. dude, love having your wife's view / take on this since she sounds 100% like my wife and she is no-nonsense. love my tom bihn stuff I use on the daily (med cafe, iPad cases etc) and don't mind paying for quality, workmanship and paying American workers a livable wage.
“Ceremonial accoutrement”, that is where I would keep mine as well.
Thanks for the math lesson. I did not the size difference from the two bags 🤣. You made me laugh out loud.
And I agree with Melissa that this is the first aesthetically pleasing tom binh bag for my eyes. To each their own. Was considering buying this through your whole review until I saw that price tag. I just can't spend that much yet on a bag. $200 is about my limit.
I did pick up your Collab with Pakt and just used it on a road trip. 😁
Thanks for the review, I love my Synik and I am sure I will love this one too.
Thanks Tom Bihn for making your bags in the USA.
So are they phasing out the 30 Litre Aeronaut then? This looks like they are trying to do a less boxier version of the Aeronaut.
He's Business Papers and she's Oils. Perfect match.
You can tell Chase has a soft spot for Tom Bihn products. I don't blame him as an owner of Aeronaut 45, Brain Bag 1st Gen, Synapse 19, Cafe Bag.
Let’s please make “trusty steed level” a new Chase Reeves channel original catchphrase!
NGL I thought she said "Trusty Steve"
"I have locks on my cold storage wallets" :) I could literally watch you guys reviewing paving slabs especially if they had Ceremonial Accoutrements. Legends!! Also, I'm going to buy this bag
Wonder if you would consider. Doing a video on your opinion best travel minimal backpack you’ve ever seen. Would it be one you helped design Pakt or a Tom Bihn. Synik30 or ???
So torn on this bag. I have an older Synapse 25, and it’s really comfortable to carry, so I’m guessing the Techonaut with those new straps would be awesome, but it’s just missing some of those organization features I’d love to have. I had the Peak Design 45, and while the organization is great, it never found it very comfortable to carry. I had the Tortuga Outbreaker, which is comfortable to carry, but I’ve had to check it a couple times, and I’m always nervous watching those unprotected straps go down to the conveyor belt monsters. I’m still looking for the “holy grail” bag: I want something comfortable to carry, easy to pack, straps that tuck away, durable, and has a basic office/tech pocket (another thing TB doesn’t have). Seems like someone ought to be able to come-up with that. In the meantime, I’m currently using a half-packed Osprey Porter 46, which is…meh. I guess my quest continues… Thanks for the review. Love your stuff.
I feel like spendy but worth it is Tom Bihn in a nutshell. I've had my Synapse for 5+ years and have not even thought about replacing it.
Always well down! I still love my synapse 25 that I got based on your review. Keep up the great work.
My new standard for carry-comfort is Shimoda, particularly the Action X30. I’ve never worn a more comfortable backpack and it was pressure tested on a nightmare day of travel where I was stranded and lugging it around at Chicago O’Hare for over 12-hours. The adjustable straps are a game changer IMO, and I’m comparing it directly to similar bags I have from Peak Design, Wandrd, and Boundary. SO, that said, how do you think this bag compares to Shimoda for comfort? I’m liking a lot of the other features. Thanks!
This is more of an elevated standard bag feel than the shimoda. Is nice materials and we’ll designed straps and back panel.
Hmm - this might work for a sweet underseat personal item - a touch big on the dimensions - but id bet itd work!
Hey Chase, please do review on Nest: The Everyday Adventure Backpack!! I consider buying it and you always do the best and honest reviews
Dude….I just binged 5 of your videos, I have watched so many of them and loved your wife joining you! I genuinely just enjoy your videos and personality. I also feel like you should be an actor! Freaking hilarious and always you and I love it!
great review! only 2-3 lbs too, not bad at all. I bought and return the aeronaut, wishing there was a more backpack version - so happy to see this.
Great family review ! Can you make a capacity comparison with the Peak Design 35/45 Travel bag ? (For me the PD in more a 30 liters in normal mode, and this T30 seems to be a “big” 30 liters) ?
Hmmm.. got my Synapse 25 several yrs ago off the back of your review. In particular, the fact the laptop c'pmt is away from the back. Its noticeably more comfortable, esp with a jumper/jacket padding it away. So the Technonauts laptop right at your back is a step back in comfort :( Lovely bag for sure tho... less 'dad bag' than the Synapse
Torn between aer and peak design products, using a razer 15 inch backpack not sure if I’ve wasted money or not, probably have
I’m subscribed to this channel for many years now. Chase is still as awesome.
how much "squish" would you say this has to the bag? It looks like its 1.7 inches outside of spirit/frontier/etc's personal item size limit on one size...do you think you'd be able to make it fit, maybe if its not fully packed out?
I love the looks and the quality on this one. If it had a better waist straps I'd be ordering one right now
You know Tom Bihn has a couple of different waist straps, so you can get one of the more cushy options as an add-on? I say don’t let that stop you! (Random Tom Bihn fan fly-by comment here 😀)
Wow what an awesome thing to find in the morning notifications. Got my eyes on that bag since I got Tom Bihn's mailer. I think I have to come to grips with the concept that I'm a dad-bag kind of guy. Love getting your wife's opinion on it too - I'm always trying to get my wife into better travel bag options.
Love this bag. And I love the colour too!
The bag looks like its perfect for people that travel on trains.
Great vid. The bag is not really my style, but I’m a fan of your shirt man. What is it?
Hi Chase. Does this bag fit under the airplane seat?
Happy to see you two
Every Tom Bihn bag will last at least 15 years and is made in the USA. Worth every penny.
What does your wife think of the side handle?
Seems too wide, as you talked about.
Thorough review!
Thanks for the review. Let Melissa lead the next one.
Hey man just wanted to say that I love your energy! I bought a topo per your recommendation. Also, big fan of Bradley Mountain here in San Diego, the owner is a good friend of mine. I instantly subscribed when I saw you rockin the hat!
let’s goooooo I see a new Chase review video, I insta-click
I still love my Tortuga Setout Divide, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to add another Tom Bihn to go with my Synapse 25!
“Trusty steed level” ~Mrs. Reeves -- Can I make t-shirts please?!
Chase vids at 7am 👌. I'm good w this
Another exciting video. It's a new bag and new review from Chase. So excited to click this video.
Can this bag fit beneath an airplane seat as a personal item? AKA ok for budget US airlines/basic economy?
Have you heard of gruvgear? Their club bags and stadium bags are dope, would love to see your review.
Two thoughts after viewing this one: 1) My thoughts & prayers go out to any woman willing to be married to Chase Reeves! (I found a woman to marry me for 30 years, so I appreciate that’s a miracle.). 2) When I can’t make up my mind between 30L & 45L: I just reserved a Series 2 Large Knack Pack, which expands from a 30L daily carry bag to a 46L max. carry-on travel pack. Chase liked the medium size S2
That Carryology x EVERGOODS collab is mental! Black on Orange-The Zip Pulls… The key lanyard… 🤤
I don’t have social media currently so I can’t DM you Chase. I’m wondering if you bough one? They’re doing a round 2! I’m hyped.
Thanks for the video Melissa and Chase!
Could you please make another school backpack video.🙏🏼
Hey Chase! We need you to check out the new backpack from AER!
waiting for this for so long
great review! Thanks Chase and Melissa :D
I dig it except anything in the bottom pocket would get squooshed, kinda rules out any tech or even toiletries type stuff.
What a cute couple... but where do you keep the papers? Your business papers..man!
360US$ is 450CA$ before taxes and shipping, for a 30L bag. It has nice features, good design, but this is absurdly overpriced - even for Tom Bihn.
I’m not saying you’re wrong exactly. But prices of everything are going up. I work in packaging manufacturing, and our industry in our region is probably about to have its 3rd material price increase this year. I’m certain many materials in these bags are experiencing similar things.
But to agree with you, it’s certainly too steep for me.
Their bags are pricey, but they make everything in their US factory in Seattle and use top quality materials. So both their labor and material costs are going to be much higher than bags made in Asia. I have a bunch of their bags and they are great and last forever. Certainly not a bargain, however.
I have had an Aeronaut 45 for over 8 years. It has travelled with me on hundreds of trips and it still looks nearly brand new. This is an expensive bag for sure, but it will last a lifetime for most people.
@@quaternio _(Sorry, 3 months late!)_
Everything you said is accurate and relevant, and I did take all that into consideration when making my comment -
*_But $360US/$450CAD before shipping for a 30L backpack_*
And yes, I understand and known about their durability and pretty accessible warranty and the _situation_ worsening supplies everywhere, but yeah - good thing I'm not in the market for a new bag yet!
The day I'll need a new one, if this bag is 16.5% off, I'll consider it due to the marvellous quality, build and company though!
Which color is that Techonaut 30 you got in this video?
If u have any ideas for a bag for cycling that I can “commute” with, ie a laptop, that would be cool.
I get flashbacks of the bellroy review video
I really wish tom bihn didn't hate water bottles so much. I wish they would make an actual water bottle pocket that can fit a proper bottle (32/40 oz).
Your wife is really good, have her on more often 👍
I want to see the 45L..
Great video, thank you
Trusty steed level! :). Adding to my vocabulary!
Mention the material make up 1050 denier dude.
I liked your topo bag. I'll trade you the one I have. It's all one color!
Matterful.co/contact
Gotta love how his wife calls him out for cutting her off and him owning up to it and apologizing
30L bags should have load lifters.
I still don’t get why makers put a laptop compartment in the back panel. It makes your laptop kind of act as a frame sheet and it will be prone to damaging the laptop.
It’s nice to have a woman’s perspective, but dam it man you got lucky with her! She out of your league!
Now you can double your whole bag video catalog! Have her start her own channel critiquing all your bag reviews with her opinions!
That's $360 for a backpack-macklemore
Versus GoRuck?
"Tell me I would like something that you don't know if I would like" - ummmmm lol isn't that her husband??
Also there's no discount or change in the price. The pre-order price is the price
Many people don't like being told what they would or wouldn't like by someone, even if they know them well.
@@dfau1t lol that's like saying "I don't like getting gifts from my partner". Really weird.
10:10 ... "I have locks on my cold storage wallets".... are the Reeves Bitcoiners??
Wife wasn’t cooperating 😂😂😂 she was telling too much truth
The thumbnail made me think you had grown an extra arm/hand
3 in a week!
Could've used a bit more rant
I have owned almost every Tom Bihn bag up until 2 years ago. I sold everything off as there are so many better bags for a cheaper price. They need to stop using this "made in the US" excuse. I am all about keeping business in North America but there is no way this bag is worth that price. Great materials yes. Tom Bihn bags all seem to be floppy and no structure. This looks the same. Good luck getting that water bottle in there if this bag is packed out. Everyone talks about how their customer service is great. I disagree. I have had better service with other bag companies. Not to mention after spending $2500 they would not even give me a $10 off my shipping for being a loyal customer. That was the final straw for me. Never again Tom Bihn.
What other bags you like?
@@Bowensfamily83 so many choices these days. Goruck, Evergoods, Able Carry, DSPTCH etc etc etc.
Thank you for confirming that it's "floppy". That was my concern. I like bags that have some firmness and rigidity.
Your wife is gorgeous. You married up.
she's feisty..
I can use that bag..
I liked her more than him..🤣🤔🤫🤦♂️
She wants a woman back pack..
Why do they make such ugly bags?
Not Tom brands again..
🥱🤔🤦♂️
