- Dave Jones (EEVblog - • Siglent SDS1000X-E Ser... ) takes a brief but critical look at serial decoding on the new 200MHz Siglent 1202X-E Oscilloscope (www.saelig.com/.... Serial decoding is FREE with this new budget scope.
You are reviewing a SDS1102X E when it says your reviewing a SDS1202x-e
hi Dave, i have the 4-channel SDS-1104X-E Siglent scope and have used it to decode Modbus, it will do the job however it was trial and error to get it to work. i wished there was more info on the decoder functions and it might be somewhere? 🙄 thanks a lot... 😎

@@SaeligCoInc thank you this helps a lot.
Hi Dave, it can be very frustating for a newbie to find out what oscilloscope to buy. I am a diyer with some experience, but without electronic training, for now. I make ClassA amps and others, pre amps, buffers, psu. Generally I buy the boards first... Other than that I want a device that reads low frequencies like the Schumann frequency, with a millesimal accuracy, at least 7,xxxHz. Could you please suggest what device should I buy? I've been told that the Siglent SDS1202X-E reads these frequencies with big accuracy, even more than I want. Well, I am in a point where I decided to make the next step and get some autonomy. I would very much appreciate your help. Thank you vey much! Francisco
How much does the keysight cost vs the siglent one cost Mr money bags? EEVblog it's the all about me channel. Don't waste your time with that one.
You post other channels' videos?
We asked Dave first ...
Hi Dave,
Could it be possible to decode any serial line type other than I2C, UART..with protocol so as to extract the binary code and save it to a log file to be able to take a close look at it?
Many thanks in advance.
WTF ?? Ripped from from Dave's EEVblog
Your model is 1102 not 1202!
Yes, the video was made by Dave before the 1202 came out ... but his comments are still relevant to the 1202 since the SDS1102X-E doesn't exist!
Also, there is a new firmware update available.
anyway, I bought this one ....
Now, after a whole week, how are you satisfied with it? I am also considering to buy one.
I am not really the person you should rely on ... I got this things to learn and play to see whats going on in the cables here and there. I want to see how i2c protocol packets looks like. Also how audio signals behave or misbehave. When I get my laboratory PSU 40 Volt 10 A from Germany I will start playing with it together with a Raspberry pi and Arduino nano feeding led stripes and amplifiers. It looks nice wit beautiful waves on my desk but the fan is a bit noisy to stay on all day.
actually there is not much I understand about scopes but I am hoping to learn a lot.
Thank you anyway.
I just got a new SDS1202X-E, and I'm having trouble getting the Video sync mode to dependably trigger (on an NTSC analog signal). Anyone have any suggestions?
First thoughts:
- What is the firmware revision?
- What is the signal source? Is it stable?
- Connections?
- Scope Configuration?
- Specific errors or observations that lead to the conclusion that it is not working properly?
Please contact Siglent for a detailed reply as this is probably not a one or two sentence answer: info@siglent.com
Thanks!
NTSC? Is there still analog video out there? ;) But I will presume you need to sync on either line or frame bursts.
@@erikas6874 There are PLENTY of analog TVs (they now need digital converters) out there, and to test/troubleshoot them, you need an NTSC (or PAL/Secam) signal.
Hi Dave,
Do you think SIGLENT will be able to upgrade their sofware so we can use the Ext input as a third channel for decoding three signals protocol com like I2C, Uart or , spi specially if we want to see the clock signal as well?
We can still trig on the clock with the Ext input (maybe help on automode) but won't be able to see it on the screen...
Thanks for you comment.
I doubt it but we will check with them ....
Where's the best place to buy Siglent in Australia? I'm concerned around the grey market etc.

@@SaeligCoInc Cheers, ordering one now.
Does anyone know if this scope has an LED backlit display?
It has backlit, whether if it's LED I'm not 100% sure. But if I were to guess I'd say it's probably LED. What else are they gonna put in there? Incandescent?
Of course not incandescent but CCFL.
@@hpsmith2010 CCFL is very old technology. Doubt they use it.
stolen video?
Why didn't you read the comment from SaeligCompanyInc above? Quote: "We asked Dave first"
