    Great video. The assembly process isn't that hard, but it's really hard to describe. I really appreciate the alignment tips, that was giving me fits.

    I absolutely love this attachment. I found the tip on the Sherline site that shows how to mount this on the front side. I used this trick and a Nema 32 to power the thread cutting process. I mount the hand-wheel on the back shaft of the motor to allow me to manually cut and it also clears the stock motor. When it's not in use I just swing the arm forward and disengage the flex jaw coupler and I can use the lathe with the stock motor. It's important to make sure the bolts are tight to prevent the gears from disengaging while cutting. :)

    Not easy to describe the inner working of the drive dog mechanism. you accomplished it effortlessly.

    Clear explanation, thanks. Is it possible to use the thread cutting attachment without the hand wheel but with the motor? I ask this because dismounting the motor every time in the middle of a workpiece when I have to cut thread would be inefficient. Is there a workaround for this, if this is the case? (In the last few days I have been studying Sherline products as I want to buy a machanic shop bundle because the ecosystem feels well built and thought out.)

      Sorry, but no. Our machine design allows for many upgrades and modifications, which are very beneficial to many of our end-users. However, the machine design also makes it impossible to use the thread cutting attachment with a motor.
      For motorized thread cutting we offer our Accu-Pro Lathe and Chucker Lathe.

    Great video. Silly question time, does the thread cutting attachment become a permanent part of the lathe that is engaged and disengaged or does any part have to be removed to use it as a normal lathe?

    • @philips170t
      @philips170t 2 года назад +1

      Those geartrain setup need to be remove when operating as a normal lathe.

    i was so confused. i couldnt get the turning wheel to fit with the motor on. i didn't realize you have to disassemble it. which makes it a little more difficult to bolt this to my table top mill. but i can figure it out. anything i need to know when using a long belt? does the tension of the belt affect the drive in anyway?

    • @SherlineProducts
      @SherlineProducts 3 года назад

      The tread cutting attachment is for use on a lathe, not the mill. Are you asking another question about attaching the drive belt to the motor and spindle pulley wheel?

    • @treatb09
      @treatb09 3 года назад

      @@SherlineProducts i have a table top mill, i'm going to bolt the lathe to. but when i first got it , i assumed i could attach the threading package without removing the motor and have a drive system. which i know you can do with a dismounted motor. i was going to do that anyway to reduce vibrations from the motor. every vibration adds up with what i am using the lathe for. making micro gears for a watch i'm designing.

    Don't you recommend to lubricate the shafts before putting them in?

    • @SherlineProducts
      @SherlineProducts 5 лет назад +1

      Yes, shafts and gears should be lubricated. Lubrication directions are noted in the written instructions that come with the thread cutting attachment.

    Would the thread cutting attachment work on a toyo ml-210 lathe? Thanks.

    • @SherlineProducts
      @SherlineProducts 3 года назад

      I can't say yes with any certainty. It doesn't look like there is enough room on the backside of the motor to mount the threading attachment, and I don't know if the sliding shaft will work, or engage, with your leadscrew. I would check with Toyo lathe user groups to see what they use for threading. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

    I installed this attachment but gears B and C don't spin together. Gear C slips when I turn the handle and it is not able to turn the shaft to move the cross slide. Am I missing something?

      Chris A, Our tech says you don't have the plates tight enough…. And/or you are cutting a very course thread. All the bolts need to be very tight to avoid slipping gears.

      I spoke with our technicians and they suggested that you must really tighten down on the screws to hold the arms tight. It is highly recommended that you use the 5/32" Hex T-driver. If you are using an Allen wrench, then insert the small side into the screw and use the longer side to apply leverage.

      I have the same issue, I think it's the idler gear that slips, I think the bushing needs a pin to lock it in I will try some ideas. I have put significant pressure tightening the hex bolts and it will still slip.
