A DEATH IN THE 1960’s
Wearing dark sunglasses under a Chelsea moon.
Blue mists over the city, rain splashes on old London pavements,
Brian Jones walking home with a pocket full of harmonicas,
In a glorious unknowing of the length of his short life left to live.
Soho café milk bar magic, number 72 bus rattling down Charring Cross road to destinations where Joss Sticks seeped into coloured curtains.
Transistor radio playing Waterloo Sunset on an underground train, expectation everywhere, the newness shone out to those streets with Jingle Jangle Tambourines that followed our footsteps, and timeless bells welcomed in midnight.
And now a headstone bears your name, and faithful followers leave flowers.
You marked a place that only you could know.
A death in the 1960’s, a grave now covered in snow.

Thank you so much for this. It makes me happy, yet sad at the same time. Towards his end, Brian admitted his favorite instrument was the harmonica. May he RIP.

Today is the day Brian passed away. I never believed it was July 3rd since it’s been written that he more than likely passed away before midnight. By the time a doctor pronounced him it was after midnight. RIP Brian!
Yes, it was definitely July 2nd. A very sad day in music history.
