Thank you, thank you. Last summer my son was on a travel ball team that did this drill. My son looked at the tee's and changed them to back tee low, front tee high. (We do the high front tee to make sure he is staying on path). Of course the coach tried to start coaching him up on the proper swing path. Rather than arguing with him, we just skipped batting practice for the summer and did our own thing. Btw he hit third or fourth for most of the summer and the boys going to batting practice only hit ground balls.
Very interesting! I do see this drill done a lot! Not sure why, but it's one of those drills that everyone knows, but I don't think enough know about the swing to really understand what it is doing. Good luck to your son!
I used to do a drill with two tees like this, but at the same height. The objective was to hit both balls on the swing. Not sure how great it worked, but it helped keep a flat bat path.
Great tip; reverse the order of the tees and you'll closely mimic the trajectory of the pitch coming in, across the plate. It aligns with your point regarding rolling the barrel to increase your chances of being on-plane with the ball, as you're swinging through.
We do the exact opposite and would like your opinion. We use 2 tees. The first tee has the ball that the boys hit. The second tee is about 3 feet in front of the first tee with a ball on it and slightly opposite field. The farther tee is about a ball higher than the ball we are hitting. The objective is to hit the first ball into the second ball. As long as the second ball is about a ball higher than the first ball and 3-4 feet ni front ... we feel the boy is swinging on the proper swing path. I was wondering your thoughts!
Michael Stavalone I did the same but have used a wiffle ball for the rear ball and swing through it and then actually hit the second ball with the bat too.
I have a question I just recovered from a 8 month concussion and and I started throwing again and my inner elbow hurts. I know that's bad but I don't know why it hurts. I feel like I'm keeping my elbow above my shoulder. What could I be doing wrong
Walkoff films I am having the same things. I even just got back from a 8 month concussion. My coach told me remember sky, scratch, throw. If you weren't told about that it really helped, I had very poor form.
Coach, what are your thoughts on the soft toss drill when the tosser is directly behind the batter to where they hit into the net placed in front. I know softtoss side drill seems to be less popular these days and just trying to figure out ways to where the batters can warmup hitting before games. We do use total control balls but would like to have another drill besides using those heavy balls all the time. Thoughts?
I don't personally use that drill. I did when I was younger. I haven't really broken it down though. I may actually do a video on it so I can test it out. Thanks for watching and commenting!
My mom was watching with me, and when you said the reason, she was like "exactly." "You will cut down the ball" Wow Mom! Never knew that you know this stuff!
The swing happens behind the body and since the barrel begins above the ball you are swinging down as the body tilts upward and you finish high

Could you make a video about who your influences/favorite players were as a kid and who you modeled your game after? Thanks! Love your videos.
Yes! Good question. I'll make one ASAP. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thx for the heads up Nelli! Can you do a video on what pre game MLB preparation is like!
Sure thing! Thanks for commenting and watching!
Hey coach how do you swing the bat is it the bottom hand pulling or shoulders rotating
I think it's more of a turning feeling with my forearms
Antonelli Baseball thank you

Yeah I think that drill could definitely work! Thanks again for commenting and watching!
I think the back ball is supposed to be lower than the front ball

Thanks!!! Very true good point!!!

absolutely not. Love watching your videos and look forward to everyone of your posting .. both me and my 10!
Absolutely not ...meaning i would not mind. My apologies!

even better idea ...keeps the bat in the strike zone longer. will def give it a try!

Walkoff films Strengthen your elbow but I would go to the doctor and get it checked out or stop pitching.
Tough to tell, but definitely get it checked. Don't want to mess around with elbow pain! Good luck to you!

You are so lucky to have your first hit called by Vin Scully.
Thanks! That was pretty cool Thanks for watching and commenting!
Whoaa, never seen this drill, that's awful.
I always hated doing that drill
Same here! Thanks for watching and for commenting!
My mom was watching with me, and when you said the reason, she was like "exactly." "You will cut down the ball"
Wow Mom! Never knew that you know this stuff!
please give us one free drill to get started.
Good idea! I'll throw one up there. Thanks for watching and commenting!
You da man. Thank you.
Easy fix. Just make the second tee the same level, or a tad higher. That should accommodate to your swing
Thank for watching and commenting!
The main reason for the drill if for bat lagging
This is the “benched on my high school team” drill..
Haha! Good luck to you!
First
Thanks!!!
