Tipper and Matt. I would say don’t EVER feel like you need to apologize to ANYONE for the way you do things. Folklore and traditions are historic. Not cult. God is GOOD. ALL THE TIME
The way I see it, you may have to spend more money for the “turning plow” attachment but it will definitely be something you will use for a long time. And, as Matt says, “He can do all that work and his back not hurt one bit!” I see that as a ‘no-brainer,” and a win-win! ❤
It’s amazing how much more work you can get done as well as how quick you can get it done with a piece of equipment. A tractor & the implements are game changers on a homestead or farm. The big garden is gonna be so nice for y’all. Pap would be proud of y’all. 🙌🏻👍🏻🙌🏻👍🏻❤️😇🙏🏻
Some folks don't understand Biblical principles. Astronomy is Biblical, as in signs of the seasons. Astrology is wicked because God speaks against mystics, witches, spirits and such. Jesus spoke of the seasons in the gospels. Signs in the constellations to plant or harvest and other things. Of course it ain't evil, the moon and stars have been used since the beginning of time to tell tides, navigate and sow crops. You folks just keep on educating the uneducated, and have a good time while you're at it.
They ain't gonna take their money with em to heaven. Spend it on what they want and accomplish their goals is to be commended. There is something to be said for independence and counting on getting it done right.
@@StuartMaynard-zb5tr It is a matter of what makes the most economic sense. If you only need a tractor to do one little job a year, it is much cheaper to hire someone to do it. If you have a larger place where you will be using a tractor quite a bit, it makes sense to buy one.
My grandparents were devout Baptists, my grandfather a minister. They planted by the signs. Thanks Tipper... I could almost smell that fresh turned soil.
@mariansmith my sister, her husband, and her in-laws wouldn't do anything I don't think without the signs and almanac! Cutting hair, weaning babies(probably even animal babies), planting, etc!! Funny story,I didn't know about that, and got an almanac at the feed store,so when it said some of that, plant something by the dark of the moon I thought it meant in the dark, and did it!!! Lol probably didn't even come up!!
Both of our boys loved sweet potatoes when they were young. They still love them. They are 35 and 31 this year! With 2 boys on the way, grow more than you think!
My Daddy was a minister and he always planted by the signs. My Momma potty trained children by the signs. She said to start potty training when the sign is below the knees. By the time it reached the feet the child would be fully potty trained. Glad Matt is enjoying his tractor. I am sure it does make it easier on him.
I love the sunday night visits. I feel like I was sitting there with you guys, smelling the fresh tilled ground. Prayers for Katie and baby for an easy birth. Can't wait to hear when he's born.
The ending about the garden memory with your girls in the picture kind of made me cry a little❤ what with past memories & new ones coming up for you all❤.
Nice tractor! Yep, new toys tend to require new things for the new toys. Really enjoyed spending time with y’all. Bet Katie is close to having that lil bit. Love yall. Have a very blessed day & week. 😊❤😊🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I weaned my daughter from her bottle by the signs.. my grandmother told me to start in the knees and by the time it's past the feet it will be over. She was right.. as she was about so many things. I miss my grandmothers.. an abundance of knowledge and never-ending love.. life is just never the same with them gone. I hate that old ways are being forgotten more and more these days. Enjoyed listening as always. Love Appalachia ❤️🌲🌽⛰️🚜🍅🥔
Loose, sandy soil, is what my Google search informed me of for turning plows. Your plow is just right for the rough and rocky tough work you accomplish. And who knows what you'll someday about more of your property dreams ! I better view the entire video now 💛
That was the best answer I believe I've ever heard. When you asked Matt, what else you gonna want for it, and he said "whatever they make". Get em all the attachments and he can run an add in the paper to hire out for local folks. Next he'll need a bush hog and hay bailer. Big money in grass.
When I was growing up, our big garden got plow turned over every year and then disked with the tractor. When Dad started to plant he would use the rototiller. We always had big crops of corn, tomatoes, beans , cucumbers, potatoes, onions and many more vegetables. He always planted potatoes on Good Friday. Your garden will definitely be better plowed. Love your Sunday videos of you and Matt talking. Y'all seem like family to me and my husband. We are 76 and 77 and still garden. It's in the blood, and love it. ❤❤️🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽
Planting by the signs from the moon, sun and earth, that God Gave Us, has nothing to do with the occult! You guys are wonderful. Dont let anyone bother you. God bless you and your family.
My grandpa on my Mom's side would plow a big garden for the family with a horse drawn plow . That was in the Salem, Oregon area in the mid to late 1920s. Grandpa was a wonderful gardener and taught me a lot about how to grow things.
I'm so glad for Matt to have that tractor, all the things y'all can accomplish with it ! Such sweet memories and new ones to come! Thank you Tipper & Matt, as always! 💞 🙌🏼
I have the same set up you have. I had a neighbor come over and stand on the back of the tiller after I did the third till. He weighed about 210 pounds or so. Made a big difference. I still wanted to go deeper, so it set the tiller down level. I put some big rocks on the back of that tiller. Probably had about 400 pounds on the back of it. That did the trick! I had to Southern rig it to get the rocks to stay, which wasn’t hard. A few tiedown straps and a chain. So after my second or third, season of doing this, I use some black tarps. Put them down about 2 1/2 months or so before last frost. That pretty much kills the weeds or at least gets the weed pressure down. After my third or fourth year, pow! Now is a good time just to turn the soil. Let’s the worms and stuff come back. Kind of seems like a waste of a tiller after doing it for a couple of years but it is what it is. Also use a tiller to make a path here and there to plant corn and what not. It’s the first time I’ve seen your channel. I’m a new subs and liking it!
Here’s a few things : cup holder, roof to cover him in the shade, radio, lite up side mirrors, back up beeper, two way radio, cooler for his lunch and popsicles, baby car seats, the list is endless lol enjoy and blessings ❤️🙏❤️
Pop always told us we couldn't go bare foot until after the first of May, and when we were little Momma made us wear under shirts (the little cotton tank top undershirts) she wouldn't let us stop wearing those until after the first of May either. So many fond memories I get watching your videos!! Now with the big garden I am remembering more and more. 🙂
Blessed, Farmers Almanac always on the end table in my childhood home😊, I'm a divorcee and have to improvise alot, trying to fix an old lawn mower that had rusted the front end off, I used bungee cords to hold it together, LOL then as it kept dropping and hitting the ground, I realized I now have a good merry tiller 😂😂😂 love❤watching y'all😊
Nah, I agree with you, Tipper; I think Matt just doesn't realize how much improvement comes with just plugging along, every day, doing it over and over again, and working out better ways, more efficient ways to do our work. And the garden is just that way, too. Sure some years are better, but you are still learning better ways every time you do it.
Tipper, have you considered phoning Doug Clement at the Extension office in Murphy? He may be able to tell you where you could rent a plow for a day. Once you turn the ground over, the tiller may suit your needs, going forward. Why buy, if you can rent for a day.
My in-laws would always plant by the signs. It's such a blessing you have pictures of generations in Pap and Granny's garden. What's really exciting is watching y'all reviving the garden for your family and generations to come. Praying and Blessed! 🤗🙏💕👣
Tipper & Matt your joy of new tractor and the garden is contagious just watching the of you I too get excited. 🎉about planting by signs my daddy planted by the signs. He loved his farmng and his garden.Matt his tomatoes grew so large that a slice would be big enough to cover the slice of bread, so juicy and Great tasting. How I wish could have a tomato sandwich like that one more time. Thank you for sharing.
Just a thought , Matt might want to get a fire extinguisher for his tractor. My husband and I have one on our tractor attached to the romps just for peace of mind. Love all your videos, thank you.
We grew tomatoes, crookneck squash, zucchini, by a goldfish pond with a water fall and the veggies & flowers loved it. I am so happy yall are getting an old family garden started back. I can't wait to get my hands in the dirt, I've just been clearing a little space for more butternut squash. Stay safe & God bless
❤Enjoyed!! Miss being able to carry on the tradition in my family of growing our food, canning & persevering as My Parents did and All Previous Generations Before them.. SO MANY GOOD MEMORIES.. Walking BAREFOOT IN THE DIRT HELPING plant was a FAVORITE of Mine too...I used My Bare feet to help cover many seeds..
I am excited to see your newest garden. It's a lot of work, but it's so worth it. We grow beans, corn, tomatoes, carrots, grapes, potatoes, raspberries, strawberries, and squash. Happy planting!! 😊
I love the picture of the girls! It's beautiful visually in its own right, but what a precious memory. As the mother of a young teenage girl, and thinking back to my own teenage years, I think all of us women can relate to the feelings expressed in this moment.
My Daddy used to say, the older you get the faster life goes. We always planted by the farmers almanac and we always planted our potatoes on St Patricks Day. We always had a big, bountiful garden. My Daddy had a green thumb and could grow just about anything. The thing I remember the most were the white icicle radishes. They were so good. You used to could buy them at the grocery store, but not anymore. I loved them. Good video. I enjoy the garden ones so much. We stored our potatoes under the house and covered them with lyme. They lasted all winter.
My grandpa farmed all his life in Michigan, he always said plant potatoes on Good Friday, corn should be knee high by the 4th of July, plant peas when daffodils bloom. Don`t know if he always went by that, but thats what him and dad always said. Thanks for the video, your videos are always very enjoyable.
My husband and I are 63 and 61. We have a big garden looks to be the size at paps. It’s just the two of us that work it. Believe me we are frequently getting new toys to help with aches and pains. Worth the money lol😂
I love the picture of Katie walking barefoot through the freshly turned earth while poor Corie couldn't participate. Tipper, when you said the word backset it was a word I haven't heard anybody say for a long time. My parents and grandparents used to say that all the time. It's a good old southern Appalachian word for sure!
Of course you can always pressure can potatoes. That would be nice to have in your pantry. I had some luck in blanching and freezing potatoes back when I had more freezer space than I do now. Also, when it comes to the signs as a Jewish person, we follow the lunar calendar and we also believe in the signs for every month. Definitely not evil, God given as you say.
My daddy always planted by the signs. We always gathered an abundance of whatever he planted. He always planted a communal garden. I use to walk behind my daddy, as he was plowing the mule. I absolutely loved that feeling of the cold rich dirt under my feet. Thanks for stirring up memory lane for me. I loved hearing y’all talk. ♥️
I’m sending blessings and prayers this Palm Sunday to y’all. One of the most moving and blessed days on the calendar. Love to y’all, in Jesus name. Jennifer
Our family has always planted by the signs. It sure makes a difference in the yield you get. My Dad & I always got our haircut in certain signs. Dad planted onions in the wrong sign & when he went out the next morning, they were on top of the ground.
Y'all just made my evening with this video. I would like it if Matt go get the turning plow tomorrow. I'm excited. Matt got me chuckling, telling his stories, and Tipper you look exceptionally fine sitting on the back of the tractor with the wind blowing threw your hair. God bless y'all. I gotta go make me some fried potatoes and onions now.
I observe the signs too. Our ancestors knew this and it just seems that some plants thrive better. Other plants that are more prolific will grow regardless of when you plant. Herbs do best for me planted by signs
We farm and ranch so we look at the farmers almanac for many of our planting, winging calves and working cattle. It really helps. It makes sense because you’re keeping in balance with God’s natural rhythm.
Living in Wytheville/Max Meadows Virginia most of my adolescent years, my grandmother would always tell us that”You can’t go outside bare footed until after the 10th of May cold spell!” Blackberry Winter!
I bottle broke and potty trained my kids by the moon. Would never do it any other way! While everyone we knew was struggling with these things, we sailed right through. My Appalachian granny was a genius! My daughters-in-law did the same, on my advice and now my grandkids are doing it too.
So happy you got a tractor. I had mentioned this a ways back .😊 Now, you likely know this but be careful to match the plow to your tractor's power factor. It takes a lot of horse power to plow very deep. You are so right about the need to turn the soil over deeper. To do so once a season though, should do it and your till will work very efficiently for you then. What a blessing this will be for you all. Hey Ganny, I have to have my gunsmoke, Rifleman, etc. Too!😉😉❤❤❤ Great video. Just love you guys! You're good people! God bless all here.
My grandmother Alan was of American Indian heritage and she would take a plant like roses, or some other kind of plant and she told me to wait until there is a full moon and then take it outside and put it in a jar of water and set it out thereor you can plant it in the ground and it’ll come up and bloom and she had several plants outside that she did that
I know a woman who used to know Garland who lived/s in Cherokee County. I bet he works by the signs. I like the idea of doing 1% of my work each day. 😊
There's astronomy, and then there's astrology. Check them both out if you want. I always plant my garden when i get ready and ask God to bless it. We never go hungry.
My Daddy was in construction work and also had big gardens too He would prove to mama and me if you dig a hole on the increase of the moon . you would have more dirt than you needed to fill that same hole back up, On the decrease of the moon you wouldn't have enough dirt to fill the hole up
I love how happy & excited Matt is (tell tell sign are his jokes today) & he'll be even more so with a turning plow. For years my hubby has planted by the Farmers Almanac signs & some may think this crazy but I had two aunts who quit smoking 'successfully' by waiting till the signs were in the knees / feet (NOT while in the head). Tipper, I know that Matt's well being & happiness spills over to you and vice versa yours to him. TY for sharing & God Bless Y'all.
I used to ask my Grandmother when are we going to plant the garden, and she would always say, you can plant it anytime you want, but it won't grow till the ground warms up enough
My grandparents had a pit in the barn to store potatoes. They would put them in the pit and cover with a tarp, then a little dirt. They would last about all year. One pound of seed potatoes on average should produce 10 pounds of potatoes.
When I was growing up, we would plant a big garden, and I remember daddy planting potatoes and we'd dig them around fourth of July and then turn right back around and plant them again to be able to harvest again before cold weather.
GOOD LUCK ON THE CORN CROP. I moved from New Orleans to Central Indiana in 11/2017 & THE CORN I BUY IS THE BEST CORN I'VE EVER EATEN. It literally MELTS IN YOUR MOUTH & IT'S THE SWEETEST I EVER EATEN & I grew up on a farm eating corn & veggies from the garden & fields. Good luck & God bless you all.
We used to hole up our tators in the ground. Also, tators can be determinate or indeterminate. This more or less means they set either a specific amount of tators or just grow as many as they can, respectively. It depends on the type they are.

Great video so happy for y'all having a traitor to help make garnering a lot easier to plow thanks for sharing 👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank you!!
Things that one use is always worth the money. Extra so if it helps the whole family. ❤
I believe in signs. I dated many a woman under signs. It worked out fine. Maybe, like Pap, it is just when I had time! LOVE YOUR SHOW!!!
We found out today we are going to have a grand baby! ❤❤❤❤❤ so excited!
Ah, congrats!!! What a blessing.
Congratulations!!
I love 🌱 planting by signs 🌿✝️
Could always rent a turn plow attachment for the day or even build one out of angle or tube steel. Anyway food for thought..
Dry canned potatoes fried with onions make an easy side dish for breakfast or dinner.
I'm all for quick and easy!
Happy Blessed Palm 🌿✝️Sunday Matt and Tipper and Everyone 🙏✝️🙏🌿
Thank you!!
I’m sending blessings and prayers this Palm Sunday to y’all. One of the most moving and blessed days on the calendar. Love to y’all, in Jesus name. Jennifer

@@jenniferlee6424 Thank You 🙏
Guys he who dies with most toys win right Matt lol. The tractor will be god sent.
My Mom and Day always planted by the "signs." I always thought of it as superstitions, but that's just me.
Turning Plow For Matt in my prayers 🙏✝️🙏🌿✝️🌿
Too!😉😉❤❤❤
Great video.
Probably so 😊
We always planted our garden by the signs of the moon and we always had great gardens. I made kraut by the signs and we had the best tasting kraut.
Oh Tipper, I'm so happy for all of you and this garden. Can't wait to see that corn! Thank you for sharing.
There's astronomy, and then there's astrology. Check them both out if you want. I always plant my garden when i get ready and ask God to bless it. We never go hungry.
My Daddy was in construction work and also had big gardens too
He would prove to mama and me if you dig a hole on the increase of the moon . you would have more dirt than you needed to fill that same hole back up,
On the decrease of the moon you wouldn't have enough dirt to fill the hole up
Fascinating!
Oh yes most importantly a huge pole barn to hold all your toys Matt. Then that’s going to need water for your bathroom, lighting for barn dances.
I used to ask my Grandmother when are we going to plant the garden, and she would always say, you can plant it anytime you want, but it won't grow till the ground warms up enough
What a pretty place. ❤
The thing is that when you plant under a full moon you don't need a lantern. 🌕
We always planted potatoes on good Friday hear in Kentucky
We used to hole up our tators in the ground. Also, tators can be determinate or indeterminate. This more or less means they set either a specific amount of tators or just grow as many as they can, respectively. It depends on the type they are.
My grandparents and parents always used the almanac and planted by the signs. Nothing evil about it...just smart!
