Red Sonja never appeared in any of the Conan prose stories. Roy Thomas & Barry Windsor-Smith pretty much created this version of the character & gave her the name of the Robert E. Howard's character from another story. They were the people who placed her in the Conan universe. Chris Claremont did a version of the character that they called Marada the She-Wolf. There is a color graphic novel about the character. It's a good read.
Thanks, man. i hope they do the '80s Era stuff when she wore a sweet blue getup that was a little less skimpy than the bikini. Those were the stories i discovered Sonja through & that's always kinda "my" Red. Just discovered yr channel. All check out some more of your work. Thank you!
Very nice overview! Two things would have made this book even better. If it was printed oversized to match all the other omnibuses and It would have been great if the 15 remaining Marvel issues, that have never been reprinted, were collected here. 👍🏼
Dynamite oversaturates their art to an eye abusing level that it's only bare hyperbole to say it warrants criminal charges for assault. The TPBs for the Marvel era are especially bad for that. This omnibus looks a tad better but still I wish they'd tone the saturation down. I may have to get this even if I have all the books separately. I love an omnibus to sit and open at random to a story on a quiet night. If anyone is looking for the Conan stories that started Sonja off you can get them in the Dark Horse Collection, The Chronicles of Conan Volume 4: The Song of Red Sonja and Other Stories. They are The Shadow of the Vulture and The Song of Red Sonja, in the Marvel comics they are Conan the Barbarian #23 and #24. The She-Devil with a Sword is a cool moniker. In the Howard story 'The Shadow of the Vulture' the Polish/Ukranian mercenary Red Sonya is described as a devil for her temper and her abilities with a sword but isn't called a She-Devil. I'm pretty sure that came from Thomas in the comics but he likely created it due to the descriptions of the original Howard character. Howard's character is supposed to be the sister of the Hurrem Sultan Roxelana who was a Polish woman enslaved by the Turks. The town of Rogatino has since become part of the Ukraine. She rose through intelligence and willpower to become the wife of the Sultan and the #2 power in the Ottoman Empire. She would be a great character for someone to make a movie of. Her tomb in Istanbul is worth a visit. I don't think Simone is returning to Dynamite. I hope not., anyway. i was no fan of her take or the relaunch she planned for Marguerite Bennett. Red Sonja, The Falcon Throne is the name of the TPB if you are interested. Gail is writing a Red Sonja novel due to come out from Orbit Books sometime next year. www.orbitbooks.net/2023/04/17/acquisition-announcement-red-sonja-consumed-by-gail-simone/
The comic character is a much better creation than the Howard character she was very loosely based on. It's a shame it doesn't include her first Appearance, but it looks like a great collection.

Yes, not sure why a number of Marvel Red Sonjas are still not reprinted, bought them in the original but it would be great to see them in an omni
I like that they at least added the covers but i think it's the same recoloring as the trade paperbacks which I wasn't the biggest fan off .
I just received this 3 days ago, am enjoying the classic stories so far. Really like Red Sonja. Great review as always.. !
Great review! I've been looking to buy this 📖⚔
I picked this up at my lcs. Really fun. First issue is Neal Adams art. Final piece in my Conan kull omnibus puzzle

I don't mind it beei g standard size I've actually found I get a lot more reading done wen I read standard size over omnibuses

not for me but good video 😊
I was thinking the same thing. Something about the Conan Sword/sorcery genre books just put me off.
You’re better off leading the old stuff. Gail Simone destroyed the character with her toxic ideology and just plain bad writing
These awful colors ☹
Totally agree, puts me off buying this one
