Greetings everyone, I would like to thank you for watching my video. After receiving feedback, I realized that I missed an important issue - the CPU bottlenecking the GPU during the test. In my future video, I plan to address this issue by replacing the CPU with a suitable replacement and running all the tests with both the 1060 and 1070 GPUs. I appreciate the feedback and the call out, and thank you for your continued support.

Hey! Honest and great video! I have a question about this GPU - I have the opportunity to get ASUS ROG Strix 1070 8GB (non Ti) for about 150$ or a much newer (2,5 years warranty) Gigabyte Eagle RTX 3060 12 GB for about 245$.
      My main concerns are:
      - Power usage (I have no idea how much these cards use, I had an ASUS Strix GTX 960 2GB OC and now I have a Gigabyte GTX 1050 Ti 4GB
      - Will the 1070 be more useful for video editing like Davinci Resolve then the RTX 3060 because of bandwith speed or am I better off with 12 GB or VRAM instead of 8GB?
      - I don't really play new games, but the old ones like BF 4, DayZ, stuff like that... So I tend to invest the price difference to change my old i5 4690 + DDR3 to i3 12100F + DDR 4. Do you think that I should go with the 1070 now and change CPU or wait it out and change to the 12th gen later and get the newer GPU?
      Thanks in advance!

@@Robertsson To be honest, I don't have much experience with Intel CPUs at the moment. However, if I were to go with the 3060, I feel there could be bottlenecking issues with the CPU you currently have, meaning that you wouldn't get the full use out of the card. Having more VRAM would be nice for video editing, which is what I'm honestly looking at for my rig at the moment, and the price of the 3060 isn't bad. On the flip side, you wouldn't get the best performance from the card, so upgrading the CPU and ram might be the first step in this case.
But it's also 50/50 from the way I see it with the options you have left. In my opinion, if it were me with this option, I would go with the CPU and RAM upgrade first, and then worry about the GPU later. This is what I did with my main rig, which is why my next step is a new GPU. Currently.
Side note I use my laptop with a 3060 (of course, it's a cut-down version for the laptop), but it keeps up with my main rig well when I travel at times if that helps any.

Built a new computer last summer around AMD Ryzen 7 5800X. Pretty expensive one as I want it to last few years (my upgrade cycle is usually 6-7 years). But as GPU prices were as they were, I used my EVGA 1070 from old computer in new setup for couple of months until I found decent deal for a RTX 3080/12. With decent CPU it's still a beast, can actually even do some 4k gaming (Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning, Skyrim, Deus Ex Human Revolution etc.)
I was a bit sad when I finally sold my old computer with 1070. Really good card.

I have a 1070 ti and I was always afraid to overclock when I was a teenager until a learned that you really can't damage the card unless your messing with voltages which I never do. But I game on Linux and I used an overclock utility called GreenWithEnvy and I got the GPU overclocked 200Mhz higher and the VRAM overclocked 730Mhz higher and it added between 20-30fps in 1080p resolution. I basically just crank up the clock speed for the GPU by 25 or 50Mhz increments and run a benchmark and as long as you don't freeze or get artifacts or garbled output then you can bump it up some more until you do get problems with it being stable and then I go back one adjustment and do smaller increments until I find the exact limit and then back off like 10Mhz. Then rinse and repeat for VRAM and it usually can go much higher. I think they just pick safe defaults and ship every card with the same timings so that they are guaranteed to work. What also eased my mind on overclocking is that most motherboards have safe overclocking as standard features for CPU and RAM. As long as your not messing with voltages you really can't screw anything up. And the GPU fans automatically ramp up to control the temps so you really can't go wrong.

    • @RatchetBuildz
      @RatchetBuildz  Год назад +1

That's awesome! Personally, I haven't dabbled into the overclocking world yet. I played around with it a few years ago, but I haven't done anything in that area recently. This information you provided has some good insights, and I might consider using it in a video about beginner overclocking. By making mistakes myself, I can help others avoid them.

Hello! If I were in your shoes, I would consider upgrading to a GTX 1070, especially if you can find one at a reasonable price. It offers a significant improvement over the 1650. However, if I had the choice, I would aim for a good used GPU from the 20 series. You might be able to find one at a similar price point as the 1070, or perhaps slightly higher. The advantage of opting for a 20 series GPU would be a longer lifespan and potentially better performance.

Additionally, even some of the footage that I did use in the video showed similar issues. To address this problem, I plan to upgrade my CPU with a budget-friendly option for a future video and rerun the test to see if there is a noticeable difference. I still need to retest without my video capture and monitoring software to determine if the bottleneck is still present. These are my thoughts on upgrading my PC. Firstly, I consider whether there is anything wrong with my current PC. Secondly, I assess if there are any tasks or activities that I can no longer perform efficiently. If I encounter issues with components or face problems, I may consider upgrading certain parts. However, I also evaluate whether my system still performs adequately and fulfills all the tasks I require. If it continues to meet my needs, then I question the necessity of upgrading. Is it solely because I desire the latest technology? While there's nothing wrong with wanting the newest advancements, I must consider if it is truly essential to spend money on purchasing new components.
Currently, my main rig consists of a Ryzen 9 5950X with a 2060 Super, and it runs all the games I play smoothly at well over 60fps. It also performs well for video editing tasks. The only potential benefits I would gain from an upgrade are slightly faster rendering times and perhaps smoother footage scrubbing. However, I have managed to mitigate the latter issue by adjusting my cache settings.
Certainly, I desire the latest components and the cutting-edge of technology, but do I truly need them? No, my current setup adequately fulfills all my requirements, and there are no other significant problems with the system.

For the conversion I got for the currency that seems a lot high for that gpu. If you could I would suggest looking a little more for a cheaper one. On that note I also don't know the market from where your from or if that is normal for your area but seem high for what has been found in the US. As for the power supply it probably could run it but wouldn't recommend it. The stock requirement i have found with a quick search recommend minimum 500w,

The 1070 is still a decent card as really speed and performance has not gone up all that much with the newer generations as they have opted to go for other options such as lighting effects and AI frame generation. However, only get a 1070 if you can find a good deal on a used one as a new one is not that much less then just getting a new 3060 or 3070 which would be a better getting between 10 to 40 FPS more on average and having ray tracing and DLSS.
If you can find a used 1070 or 1070Ti for $100 or less to build a budget system go for it, but you are going to have to run some games at medium or lower settings.
If you want to play Cyberpunk, Warzone, Battlefield, or Starfield and have it look good and run smooth though skip the 1070s and go for a 3060 if you can.

I agree that the GTX 1070 is still a decent graphics card, and its performance depends on the games you're trying to play. However, newer games often require more RAM, especially if you're playing at high settings and 1440p resolution. If you're willing to play at 1080p and occasionally lower the settings to medium, the difference in visuals might not be that significant. I always recommend considering buying used cards in the 10 series to prevent electronic waste and save money, particularly for those on a budget. When buying new, the price difference between the 20 series or 30 series cards isn't that significant. Thank you for your valuable comment and input, as it benefits the community. Also, thank you for watching my video. I have some new content coming out soon featuring another 1070 that I acquired for a build for my friend, along with a new CPU for the budget rig.

You can run Cyberpunk at 1080p medium/high settings with a bit upscaling with no problems. Solid 60fps. Played the whole game twice with it. Now I can run it at ultra settings without upscaling on my new laptop but I must say its no big difference.
Games nowadays look good even on medium settings.

The GTX 1070 is a graphics card I haven't conducted further testing with since encountering some bottleneck issues. However, it could still offer a few more years of use. It's important to note that while newer games may not run optimally on it, some will still run fine. To determine if it's a good fit for your build, I recommend researching the specific games you want to play and checking their system requirements. This will provide you with a better idea of whether the GTX 1070 is suitable for your needs.

It was playable frame rates, but that was a time before we got into frame counters and stuff, so I couldn't give specifics.

I haven't conducted any testing with Intel processors, but based on a quick research, it seems that it can be compared to the Ryzen 5 3600, which should be a good match for the GTX 1070. This configuration should make for a solid entry-level gaming PC.
