Walking into this room and seeing that Berserker in the tank instantly made me say "I'm going to have to fight this thing. Aren't I."

My favorite part of this fight is how Del never helps you and usually ends up getting killed. The only one that tries to help is Jack and it's just barely.
"Now's OUR chance...let's shoot its back!" as he just stands on the opposite side of the room walking into the wall for no reason whatsoever.

Jack helps you A LOT, you use Pulse with double damage and Freeze Flashbang On INsane or else you fighting this thing for a good 30 minutes. And you can tell him to get you weapons like The sniper and The Cryo Cannon

Yeah, given the Matriarch is the original Berserker... it makes a lot of sense she's as scary as she is. The encounter may not be on part with the first Berserker battle in Gears of War 1, but the fact too of Kait having to hear her mother's voice in her head after learning she's become the Swarm's Queen is spooky on top of what you gotta do to fight the Matriarch, and how she can offer a good bit of danger in her own way.

Willow Studios holy fucking shit the jump. You get behind it, shoot it twice and it leaps right over you and you just fucking explode into gore.

Me and my friend died 10 times on normal difficulty, but I still loved the thrill this boss fight gave us, it took us back to when we watched my older brother play the first gears and he was at the part when you encounter the first berserker, scared the shit out of us as kids and the Matriarch scared the shit out of us as adults 😂
I always had my older brother do any of the berserker sections for me. I’d always pussy out and cry

Oh nah. I remember the first time I saw a berserker, I flipped out and my boyfriend had to play through by himself. Now my boys play and they ask me to help them because they're scared. Lol great memories. Its still scary. The lambent berserker was the WORST but this thing looks horrific
Lambent Berserker was the best. But the Gears 1 Berserker was TERRIFYING.

If you have 'MARKED FOR DEATH' unlocked in Jack's pulse ability, you can pulse her when she's frozen and do 20% more damage..

This boss in insane difficulty was really, insane, but it was a hell of a fun battle.
Del wasn’t doing anything so I had to get my older brother who hasn’t played since the 3rd gears to help me beat it

10:05 I just realized how lucky del was at this spot, he got hit, oh no, she jumped, not so fast, he moved out the way. he about to be pumbled by the monster, but then she gets caught, then he jumps just in time to not fall in the water.

I beat her on insane. Key is to never take your eyes off her. When she pins you she will either jump or charge. So dodge or shoot the ice. If she blinds you she will walk straight at you. So memorize where she is and shoot the ice so she walks right in. Patienceis key

The fact that del didn’t help me kill the boss at all made it so much harder
So the biggest berzerker dies by regular gun but a regular one needs to die by the hammer of dawn ????
In the first one you clearly shot it with regular guns...the hammer is used to make it vulnerable to regular weapons, the the cold in 5

It took me so many attempts to kill this thing.
Very helpful tips:so when done with the cutscene.The freeze guns are in the back left (2 of them) those come very handy.
I hated how when the berserker would throw the spike and I would jump out of the way and I would still get hit!! Wtf!
Pain in the ass boss fight. Never died so many times on standard difficulty, or intermediate, in this game. The one hit kill surprised me.
Too many one hit kills in this as well as Gears 4. It's my biggest gripe about the games. Not so much that it was a change in tactics that made the games different than the previous three. More that it feels like "artificial" difficulty.
The number of times I almost completed this battle only to get one hit killed was maddening.
i loved the whole reload mecahnic.... having to pay attention not to jam your weapon.... added to the chaos, also the rage quitting
It would've been made better if not pressing the button at all made you jam.
This Felt like a tough Darksouls Boss in Experienced Difficulty. I LOVED IT. Toughest GEARS 5 BOSS.

Gave me nightmares when I was 9 years old when I encountered that darn thing in gears 1
Also it’s the precursor to the berserker, which gives it its name.
I love how with around into the ice so it's so easy for you to just freeze him but for me he's jumping Non-Stop and I have no chance at all to freeze him at the end
TIPS: Shoot the ice on the 1st stage and lure the Matriarch to fall.
2nd stage shoot the ice in front of the Matriarch and dodge or get hit w/ spike. The Matriarch will fall in the ice if you get hit anyway so it is insurance.
3rd stage, GET BEHIND SOMETHING and quick to avoid acupuncture. Be patient, she can't see you, so she smells you and walts towards you onto the ice.
And finally, spot the Matriarch when she puts you into blind mode so you know when to shoot the ice. She still does the spike attack, so be careful.
Took me an hour and a half to find this out with my friend while playing on insane. Good luck

tip: abuse the cyro cannon, it works the same as the lake, and you can bring it around quite easily ( there is about 1 or 2 cyro cannon on the left connor of the spawn point)

got to this today and died like 30x before me and my brother beat her on intermediate lmao. good thing one of my xbox friends joined in and played as Jack. really helps if you have 3 players

Just get both most people just get PS4 because for how very good the exclusives are while people still play Xbox one X mostly for platform games for better performance and graphical detail.
You could buy a One S in a few months for cheap when next gen arrives and its price drops. I have both PS4 and Xbox One X, amazing consoles both.

Oh yeah and I’d recommend keeping pulse handy so you can see where it is from a distance when the flashbacks start!
this made me actually use jacks's abilities shock traps when she's frozen and health shields when she jumps and throws spikes
You can also use jack to stun it and it will freeze on the spot.
My fist time fighting her I probably died 15 times, I raged like crazy too lol, such a stressful mission. I was only playing on regular difficulty to, can only imagine what it’s like on harder difficulty’s.

Being blind explains how even tho she hits something, it doesnt hit any fatal organs.
You realize she has incredible hearing right? They made her and the locust to be brutal war machines. She might not see well but her hearing is on a whole other level to the point she can know exactly where your at.
Introduce frustrating boss only to be killed immediately by the end of the level seeing it escape and be a legitimate locust antagonist under the queen for later games.

This wasn't as bad as it should've been. I died once on experienced and that was just cuz of the first time Reyna talks to Kait and I didn't shoot the ice in time. After that, I picked a spot of the room and just cheesed it. Kept making it fall in the same spot of ice.

I call this the swarmzerkerpine because he is a berserker but it has the swarm glow and it has the things on his or her back
So I'm not a fullfleged gamer. I just like gaming. After being killed about 6 times, cause I was just playing it aimlessly (for fun) I realised I will need a good strategy. So the one I came up with was that get the Longshot ( sniper) don't bother with the cryofreeze or to shoot the ice to freeze it. The Longshot does more damage than the lancer and you don't have to get too close like the Gnasher. What you're gonna do is basically keep it in one of the Valley shoot it and when it charges towards you just run past it, like a half circle, or just roll outta the way. You may pick up some damage but you'll heal fast enough. Equip the cloak but only use it when the red flash comes on and it comes into view so that it wont see you and you can run right past it. After you've shot it and it's gonna throw the spikes just run sometimes itll hit sometimes it wont but as soon as you've put some distance between y'all always ensure to keep an eye on it. I passed it without dying once I did this. Also use Jack as soon as he becomes available to shock it. So if anybody is having troubles. Try this. (INTERMEDIATE)

On instane right this took me 16 times it takes time but its a bitch to kill
I remember the first times i played gears 3 horde, i was scared of the berserker alot, i think i even exited the game, and then, a few years later, the berserker is my favourite boss.
I enjoyed playing the actual monsterous berserker from the beast mode, the mode that lets you play the unique/special class monster locusts that you cant play as in versus modes, like the centipedes and the armored kantus or the boomers or even the spiders, man i hope they bring that mode back in gears 6, imagine being able to play as the new special swarm monsters like the juvies or the leechers or those big clunky tanking legless monsters shooting things out their chests everytime they open them
The easiest way for me to beat it was just by hitting him only when it's frozen, and walking backwards. If you hit the thing when it's unfrozen it goes crazy with jumps and dashes.
no Hammer of Dawn, no Scorcher, nothing here to burn it, we're screwed.

So, 3 steps to this fight.
Get her attention, when she charges shoot ice.
2nd and 3rd. When she starts throwing stuff at you, stop shooting at her to get her attention. Get away from her, hide, and the move closer when she moves toward you. Shoot ice.
I know this is 11 months old but if you have Jack's upgrade for flash you could use the mode to freeze her as well
Took me 2h 45 minutes to kill this thing. But it was worth it. Really enjoyable boss fight.
Just imagine if this was in gears of war 3 and seeing that thing when U were a kid

Beserker from Gears 1 or gears 3 Hammer of dawn required Lambent beserker shoot the weak spot in the front in gears 5 shoot the orange on the back and keep your distance incase it crushes you

They could've made it so you had to run from it or lure it like the first berserker, this fight was kind of dull. The only unsettling part was when you were having visions and you couldn't see 5 feet ahead of you and you didnt know where she was. But even then you had the scan with Jack. Missed opportunity
That berserker more scary than the first and third game
This was 10x harder than the final boss
