  • A short video from the very early days of IASCA Competition showing one of the four Speaker Warehouse vehicles that won 1st Place trophies at the 1989 IASCA Finals in Tempe, Arizona. This 1988 Ford Econoline van won 1st in the Amateur 501-1000 Watt class. "Rockit Science", as the van was known, would go on to win three consecutive IASCA Finals titles.
In this video, Tommy's friend and helper Jeremy Jacobs takes us on a tour through the entire audio system.
This footage was shot on November 17, 1989 by Ed Smith behind one of the buildings at the Precision Power factory in Phoenix, where the team prepped the vehicles before the event.

Great video and memories from my early high school days! I happened to be in Phoenix with my parents the weekend of the inaugural IASCA finals and at my request they dropped me off at ASU where the event was happening. My interest at the time had been home audio since i wasn't quite old enough to be driving around, but had started to dabble in car audio. The event was an eye opener and pretty much set my future although I didn't know it at the time. The PPI/JL Audio vehicles caught my attention and talked to a few people not knowing that many years later I would be working at PPI and later at JL Audio. Even working with some of the people I saw or met at that event. Wow.

I remember seeing this in an old Car Audio magazine back in the late 80's, simply amazing to see it in video form. Thanks for posting the video!

I Tommy Clark used to live in my neighborhood when I was a kid in West Boca Raton, Florida. The development used to called MainStreet back in the early 90’s now, Boca Winds. Tommy gave me and my buddy a demo of this van back around 1993 when I was 13 years old… that solidified me being a bass head haha! Great memories 🙌🏼

My buddy and I would hear him booming from a mile away as we rode our bikes and we followed him to his house for that demo. He was a cool dude!

So many awesome and creative builds out there. That being said, this is first ballot hall of fame material. Easily in the the top ten, even considering all the awesome vehicles that came before and sense.

I have some footage of Lucio's Mustang and Adolfo Corripio's Honda Civic... but it's not as complete as this one. I will try to piece something together when I have some time.

When the amp rack loads into the subwoofer enclosure it reminds me of putting the core into a nuclear reactor. Very cool, I wonder if it’s still around?

If I remember correctly, Tommy Clark was a paraplegic. And this van was driven by his hands. It was amazing back then, and looks competitive now.

Yes, that is correct. He has a newer van now, with a big system in it... although not quite as crazy as "Rockit Science".
