I'm growing in containers here in the Denver area in zone 5B along the rocky mountains. Have to keep mine in containers for winter and stick them in the foyer of the house.

We have to put them inside for 3 or 4 days most winters. Just enough cold weather I hate to take a chance and plant the citrus outside. Lost 7 trees in one year. Gets expensive losing that many trees in one year. It is a credit you can grow citrus in Zone 5B.

My grafted Meyer lemon has defoliated a couple of times but has bounced back from it and continues to produce fruit, the rooted cutting trees I have seem to have had less issues with defoliation .. There are about 40 nights or so below 32 degrees here in zone 8a NC where I am.

It is really good when the citrus defoliates, it makes it more winter hardy. I like rooted cuttings best since if it freezes to the ground but comes back from the roots, it is still a good tree. Our ground seldom freezes so anything an inch or two deep will survive. If grafted it willcome back as root stock.

@@growyourownfood7814 That's a good way to look at it. I have two Meyers, and the one on it's own roots is just about to defoliate. It's smaller than the grafted one, but has 4 times as many fruits.

@@doggiefamily908 Meyer tends to over produce. It will limit its growth to grow more fruit.

I like your large red containers. May I ask you where did you get them from?

They are syrup lick tubs for cattle I got from a rancher. If you know someone with cattle many times they will give them to you.
