    I am in love with packing cubes. Recently spent nine days in Italy (three hotel changes) and they were a godsend. No messing around or rummaging in your bags and really quick to pack up and move on! Would not travel without them. Have regular ones and compression style.

    Packing cubes are the best. I have several different brands and sizes.I use one Compass Rose cube for tops and another for underwear, socks and my swimsuit. Then I have a larger compression cube (Eagle Creek I think) which fits all my pants and dresses. You zip it up and then do up a second zip to take out some of the air. These work for me and allow me to keep my bag organised. In Australia we only get a 7 kg carryon and with the weight of an empty bag at 2 kg before you pack a single thing, real estate in my bag is not a challenge as my bag is half empty! Literally half empty but I’m at my weight limit! We still have a week to go and I keep taking something out and putting something else in. It’s so hard. Also I will have to stuff so much stuff in my handbag. All my toiletries, hearing aides, noise cancelling headphones, electric toothbrush and medication. I’m not sure how to squeeze it all in and still get through but I’m going to give it my best shot because luggage is going awol all over the world. I know I’m packing right but I still think I’ll be wearing several layers to walk it all onto the plane. Wish me luck!

    I love my packing cubes. They are especially handy if multiple people are sharing a suitcase, like I do with my kids. I'm considering getting the Sony Clover ones so my kids can each have their own pattern and know which cubes are theirs. My current ones are compression cubes which I love, but it's not always necessary.

    Hi Jen! I love your packing videos and travel recommendations. I’m a recent convert to packing cubes (since fall 2022) and I watched this video as part of my research. Your recommendation to get packing cubes from the same company as your suitcase (when available) is spot-on. Like you, I have the Away Bigger Carry-On (Flex option) and their Insider Packing Cubes (set of 4). I love how beautifully the cubes fit into the suitcase, and I love knowing that if I can fit all my clothes into my packing cubes, then all my clothes will fit into my suitcase.
    Watching this video again, I’m surprised that you put some non-compressible items (like your toiletries bag) on the compressible side. I save that side entirely for clothes-3 packing cubes and sometimes small items that can fit snugly in the grooves of the case (like socks). On the zipped side, I’ll put the fourth packing cube, toiletries kit, bagged shoes, and other items (e.g., umbrella).
    I love how easy it is now to unpack at a hotel: cubes directly into the drawers, toiletries bag into the bathroom, and I’m basically done. Repacking is also a cinch and I don’t sit around worrying if I can make everything fit again.
    How useful to you find handles on packing cubes? A few reviewers have criticized the Away cubes for not having handles for easier removal and carrying. I can see how that would be a nice feature to have, but since this is my first set of packing cubes, and there are only four of them, and they seem easy enough to handle, I’ve been doing okay without them so far.

      @shelley Northrop, make the plunge for an Away luggage. I have the Serena expandable bigger carry on and the Serena medium polycarbonate, both in red with a multi colored camouflage interior. Excellent and well worth the cost. All Away luggage have a lifetime warranty.
      Away doesn't always do this but there have been times when they have a massive sale, 50% off on particular items, luggage. Carry-on, accessories. I have taken advantage of this sale. Keep and eye out around Cyber Monday in November. Hopefully, they will do this again.

    loved this review and am always open to something new, but I don't understand the use of the huge packing cube... The smaller cubes allow you to organize clothing into specific groups but the large one was just filled with everything so what is the difference (other than looking pretty) using this packing cube that takes up the whole side of the suitcase vs. just placing your clothes in the suitcase without the cube?

    • @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge
      @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge  2 года назад

      When you zip everything into the packing cube (on this case my dresses and shorts) it compresses everything and also ensures you’re using all the available space. Or it’s magic. I’m open to either one. All I know is it did, indeed, enable me to put more in the space.

    Just ordered the Mophie charger and packing cubes! Have you tried the garment bag from Away? We bought it several years ago but haven’t had an opportunity to use it. Have to admit I forgot we had it. I may try it on an upcoming business trip. What is the jewelry case you’re using?

      YES they do seem that way. Once you fill them up you will be happily surprised by how they perform. I had the same exact thought. And they're lightweight on purpose so they don't add to the bulk or weight of your bag.

    Last trip I ended up using the Away large checked, Bigger Carry on, and a 30L backpack (I fly southwest so...). It still felt like a struggle to fit stuff. That was 8-day/7-night. I got a 10-day/9-night coming up. Can I somehow manage to get buy with less luggage? Or at least 2 extra days of clothes without needing to add or upsize a bag. 😬
    I blame the size 16 shoes & extra fabric that comes with 'large human' sized clothes...

      I used to be plus size so I know the struggle with clothes, but this is what I do; I pack 2 pairs leggings, 1 pair of denim shorts and 4 shirts and a pair of pyjamas for an 8 day trip and always wear dungarees as a travel outfit. I can get 4 wears out of denim and I usually wear shirts twice before washing since I don’t sweat much. It’s rare that someone will notice your wearing the same shirt with a different pair of pants

    “Normally I do not pack my liquids in a separate bag because I am TSA Precheck”… ummm. Please read the rules! If you have TSA Precheck you are not required to bring out the quart bag for inspection, but you are still required to put all liquids in a quart bag (TSA calls it 3-1-1) for carry-on luggage. This could bite you in the fanny if they do a spot check and you have not complied. Your pilot husband might be facing some issues with his employer if you get ‘snagged’. Better safe than humiliated… 😜

    You've used packing cubes in the past. Now you used a larger one from your Away suitcase company that fills in almost the entire size of one side of your suitcase. Sorry but that's not very revolutionary. Disappointed. You 've been packing wrong. Just needed larger packing cubes.
