  • I was asked how to make roses in clay so here is a demonstration video of four and a half different ways to make roses. Traditional rose form made from teardrop petal shapes (and round petal shapes), a simple spiral rose form, a combination spiral and petal rose and an open tudor rose form.
    It can be helpful to have a photo of the type of rose you'd like to make in front of you while you create. For the traditional rose work with odd numbers of petals each layer (1, 3, 5, 7). To make a bud just use fewer layers of petals.
    I hope this helps and as always, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

    Absolutely beautiful! My clay would never do that. Anyone know what kind of clay she uses?

      @@PaulaArmstrongCeramics I’ve never even heard of that. Stupid question but do you have to fire it at Raku temps?

    • @PaulaArmstrongCeramics

      Not stupid at all but no, it actually has a very wide firing range including raku, earthenware and stoneware temps. I fire it to 1205C

      @@PaulaArmstrongCeramics Thanks so much. Mostly everything I make is utilitarian so it has to vitrify all the way.

    Is it air dry clay and what kind of paint to use

    • @PaulaArmstrongCeramics
      @PaulaArmstrongCeramics  8 месяцев назад

      No, I use clay that I fire in the kiln and finish with glazes. It depends which type of air drying clay you use but I've used acrylic paint to finish in the past as it coats the surface. Something that's not too watery is usually best.
