That must have been a newer battery. You cranked that engine for at least three minutes before it would start. In cold weather most car batteries won't crank a V8 for that long.
My dad had a 75 D150 used at a water hauler and firewood truck up through the early 2000s. He got it in the mid 80s it always started like that did.t matter if it was -20 or 100 out 😆. Just how they were we worked on the carb replaced she was still a hard starter but it eventually would.
Replace the choke thermostat. The spring is too lean. Set the timing warm and idle warm. Replace the needle valve if the needle valve is at the inlet. The choke should be closed cold. Replace the fuel filter. Check the fuel pump. Check the accelerator pump. Rebuild the carburetor. A 1945 Chrysler carb.can be replaced with a 1946 Ford carburetor. It has the choke on top and not like a Chrysler carb. with a rod and spring. In fact, it'd be better. The Chrysler float may be set richer. A 360 has a plastic cam gear. A slant 6 distributor gear is plastic. Check under the carb. that the EGR passage is clear. See if the EGR isn't leaking down. Check the choke pull off, vacuum advance, air cleaner snorkle valve and sensor, PVS, transmission vacuum modulator, and other vacuum parts and hoses.
why do all that crap? It's very entertaining just the way it is. This truck is a relic and not many left. BTW, what's up Dan?! My mom was having a shitty day and this video perked her up IMMEDIATELY!
@@DanForrest720 Dude, My mom and I send well wishes for your speedy recovery! Make sure you take in plenty of fluids. Hope you and your folks are well otherwise! Til next time....
All the millenials and younger drivers who have never driven a car with a carburetor need to watch this video! They have no idea what us older folks went through on cold mornings. Back then, it was common knowledge that Chrysler products were generally hard to start (with a few exceptions ). The sound of that starter used to get on my last nerve....
@@DanForrest720 I just noticed that the gas pedal was gone and all that remains is a stalk LOL! Same thing happened to a friend back in high school with his Polara. He had to pump it so much while trying to start it that the pedal just gave up the ghost. He later screwed the car up bad when he revved the engine with gas floored and slammed it into drive. The driveshaft came rolling out and ended up in the ditch and transmission fluid was pouring out everywhere.
I know if id pump my quadrajet that many times there would be a ocean of fuel in the intake. Like literally if the fuel pump keeps supply, i seriously bet the same amount of pumping would be close to gallon of fuel.
@@DanForrest720 I replayed this video for my Mom-- she really gets a kick out of hearing that sound and your comments. Then I read a few of the comments LOL. Apparently there is a sexual fetish involving pumping the gas pedal, the footwear, and the pumping. There are a few videos of ppl intentionally flooding their engines just to prolong the cranking, and the comments had me rolling!!!. This is beyond rich. I've heard of the tailpipe fetish but this one is new LOL. Hope u are having a Merry Christmas, dude.
This one truck I would like to go for a cold start ! Be nice on a Saturday, to do a cold start. My Jeep Wrangler 2012 is a fuel injection, so a cold start would not work, I would be afraid to ruin the fuel injection. I cannot flood the carb.
If you know where there is a reputable used truck dealership that sells such trucks, please let me know. Even to rent a truck like yours for a few days would be nice. I work here in New Jersey but make trips to Pennsylvania periodically.
@@jordanwiley4582 I had neighbors on either side of me with these cars during the 70's; they were as difficult to start as this truck -- even with mild ambient temps-- and the electrical systems (points and condensers) did NOT like the Louisiana humidity. . Wow! I didn’t think that battery was gonna make it there for a while. Great sounding truck. Miss those days of the classic Mopar starter
it’s sad to see them slowly going away…. Im lucky to have two of them gonna try my hardest to keep them going as long as I can

The call of the Highland Park Hummingbird on a cold morning. Always loved the sound of those Mopar starters.
I have always loved the sound of those too!!
The best pumping hart starts I've seen

That is some professional pedal pumpage!
Now that's a cold start! Way to keep her running. Great truck
Thank you I think tomarrow or then next day is gonna be cold so gonna make a video on each vehicle I got

Love this old dodge man!!
Your cold start video are hilarious, dodge trucks don’t like being flooded, once you flood them and keep cranking they backfire
Fantastic video man I love that old truck
Thank you and I love it too
4:17 you sounded like Peter from Family Guy giggling at honking the horn 😂😂 wish we could’ve seen the carburetor backfire though
Thumbs up for all the pumpage! Give'r hell!
stop pumping! you had it flooded before you even started cranking. to the floor, hold for about 3 seconds, release. then crank.

trucks like mine are getting harder to find you can only get newer ones these days
kept wanting it to not start.. guess all things come to an end.. lol
Cuándo el motor está frío tarda mucho en encender porqué no se le activa el cebador porqué las Revoluciones Por Minuto están muy bajas; saludos.
3:25 "That d*** guy almost hit my truck! F**ker!"
I thought that was a little bit funny.
Some people where I live drive like they shouldn’t be allowed to drive lol it’s funny sometimes
It's like that a lot where I live too.
Where you at, brother. looks like you're in S.W. Virginia with those hills in the background.
I’m in Williamsport Pennsylvania
You really have to work gaspedel on this truck.
What was the carb brand you said caught fire?
its a carter thermoquad
Yes I always clean up the messy car before video
ahora entiendo por que esta asi salien buenas esas camionetas
What's the longest your Dodge has taken you to start on a really cold morning with continuous cranking?
You're pumping it way too much.
I wish I could dislike this video more.

When it’s that cold their is no flooding the carb
Will your Dodge start on a really cold morning if you don't pull the choke out? What's it like pulling up a very steep hill with a really cold engine?
it will start without the choke just takes a bit longer to start... and pulling up a hill while its cold isn't bad
Next time there should be clips on RUclips that shows how to convert from carburetor to fuel injection!!
my Granddad was a Mopar man 318/360
Those jeans looked comfortable as you were pumping. What brand were the jeans? Just curious.
levi's I think
That dodge truck is very very quadruple dog cursed to not want to start at all take my curse dodge truck
Do you still have this truck? I like to try getting it started.
Yea I still have it just did a head gasket job on it finally have it running again

Hey not much! I love the videos with the Mopar cold starts with those great sounding gear reduction starters! How about you?
What brand of battery are you using
it’s a group 31 for a backhoe/dozer
Put some AC or motorcraft spark plugs in that thing get rid of those crappy ass champion plugs
it had no choke spark plugs have nothing to to with how it starts.. it’s got a better engine in it now that one blew up
It’s cursed and jinxed and hexed to not want to start at all

Too much choke dude. You kept flooding her.
What brand of jeans were you wearing? Just curious.
Levi’s or whatever Walmart sells
Un cuarto de pedal apretando y prende estar acelerando así así lo ahogas
