Thank you for putting this together, for several reasons. First and foremost, because it's you doing it, so we get a smart look at the SLF, the Summit, etc., in comparison. Secondly, because ball reviews for older stuff that is still in production is a niche few people take the time to do. There's always a question for balls like the VS and iQ Tour of "how relevant is this still" as the march of new equipment out the factory doors continues basically unabated. It's obvious to anyone that watches E.J. Tackett that the VS is still usable, but how and why (other than E.J. is E.J.)? This kind of review answers that question. Also, on a personal note from someone who has found a home with a mostly-Motiv arsenal currently, seeing Motiv stuff on this channel is a really nice touch, because you kind of have to look hard to find smartly-done Motiv reviews and I'm always looking for intelligent feedback before I buy. I hope you get a chance to film more of their balls, and if anyone from Motiv is listening, please put this guy on your seed list.
Thank you for your videos. There are very few good lefty reviewers and it's hard a lot to tell what a ball may do on the left. I got the idol Cosmos and Fate off your reviews and both have been mainstays in my bag. Fortuitously, I have been considering getting a Motiv ball for some time, and now my favorite lefty reviewer is throwing motiv.
Appreciate this review Luke. I have been intrigued with the Venom Shock every since I got the Motiv OG Pride which by the way for me on house it is fantastic, but I digress......Being lefty I do like a controllable type look and this fits that bill. Let the conundrum begin.
Your comments on how it shapes on the left is how I feel. I definitely have a spot with my feet where I can't really cross and not expect weak 7's on half pocket hits. Fortunately I don't also have it with the P2 (recently bought) so far like you said you did. When the lane surface dictates that the VS is the right one, it's probably my favorite ball that I've ever thrown in that 5-10 zone. But since the P2 has been great for me in that zone and also a bit deeper, I'm probably going to replace the VS the Hyper Venom since the regular is just too slow for me when I swap down. FWIW, my tilt/rotation is very similar, but I trend closer to being speed dominant.
Also really appreciate your perspective on how things differ left vs right. I know others have said this plenty but it's hard to find that POV. Specifically in the arsenal building video something you said got me building in a better direction for the left side.
The Shock is almost always the first ball out of the bag on everything. I have the Blue Coral too but I have a hard time finding where it fits comfortably.
Watching the summits now kinda reminds me of what the Forge line did core wise. I loved throwing the forges when those were out and I've got the summit peak and it gives me a similar feel to that
The Summit reminds of the Carbide Tank which has the same core as the Venom Shock yet a way stronger solid coverstock. Some Motiv balls you mention near the end is balls ive thrown down the lane the Supra and Iron Forge being the best out of the ones you mention and there is some sleepers nobody mentions like the Blue Tank.
I think the Summit looks even closer to the Primal Shock and it makes sense why you prefer that to the Venom. Most balanced bowlers will like the Primal or Summit better than the Venom. The Venom will look better for the high rev guys. The Black Venom I think you'd like a lot though. Nice review though. Looking forward to seeing more Motiv stuff here.
Awesome take on the venom, looking forward to the more in depth comparison on the scorpion lf vs the shock. As a fellow lefty I’ll say my primal shock doesn’t come out much in league as it seems too whippy for me on house, kinda unpredictable honestly, but that being said, would love to see some more motiv stuff on the channel. Keep up the awesome work my dude!
Don't be silly Luke, we all know Angel won't let you get an Evoke. That ball's color scheme looks like something straight out of Jackson Pollock painting. 🤣
I’ve been contemplating the Evoke too. The Summit won me a bunch of money this weekend and have been averaging 230+ with it conditions permitting. Thanks for showcasing the Venom. At $150 it’s a good ball. Btw my average has gone up 30 pins since I’ve been watching your channel. The trick is using your knowledge quickly because games go fast.
I'm a new again bowler (not lefty) i've watched every new ball review going back 6-8 months. Few year +.. bought a few.. But I'm 99% sure this OG is my next ball. If your like me you'll probably see this comment or similar on several channels!
I love the transparency in your videos. It's refreshing to see someone give their honest feedback about a ball, even while you were still an SPI staffer. Speaking of, I am curious as to why you aren't an SPI staffer anymore. I don't recall you giving a reason, just that you left the company.
Actually the couple SOBcast streams I did I talked about it at length, so those will explain eeeeeeverything. But yeah I'm a pro shop guy and get zero commission for anything, so no reason to do it any other way
After an injury to my left arm, I had to drop the ball weight to a 14 lb bowling balls . I wasn't able to replace my Alpha Jackal in 14 lbs. However, I found a Trident Abyss at 14 lbs . I'm totally disappointed with myself that I didn't buy this ball when first came out. The Trident Abyss I like even more than my Jackal Alpha . So, my next purchase will correct another noncommittal decision. Getting the Venom Shock bowling ball.
New to bowling. I picked up the Primal Shock. Was thinking to pick up Venom Shock for later in League night. Maybe add some surface to Primal Shock to separate them even further. Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated.
Yeah I think that would work. The cores are fairly different, so the Venom is built to be earlier and smoother while the primal is longer and sharper, the surface might balance it out a little
Luke, I’m a fellow lefty similar style to you. First question what is your favorite ball on the left on ths? 2nd question what ball and layout would you recommend for lanes that hook early and don’t have the puddle in the middle on the house shot. There are 12 lanes in my house that are like that . They’re directly in front of the counter always used in open and cosmic. I’m using old balls to just try to manage the pocket( polished web tour pin down and a worn out Astro phsix. Love the channel and the insight you give. You are the only reviewer that can speak lefty and righty.
I'd have to say there are 2, because I've had a lot of success with both the Summit and Theorem this year. Very different looks, but if I need early and slow, the Summit is the ball, and if I need clean and quick, the Theorem is it. If you get a Tour Dynam-X and let it lane shine, I think you're going to be in great shape. I can't use it on a lot of things because it's fairly slow and weak when it gets 15ish games on it, but it absolutely owns dry heads. There are a couple houses I bowl at like that which the TDX is an automatic in the bag for.
I too am a Free Agent (JK, I am a League bowler), but I get to buy and throw whatever I want. I need something like this in my bag, because while my home Center has enough oil on the house shot to throw some of the "big Balls" like my Reality and Blackwidow, I do find that one end of the building plays considerably different, and I typically end up playing my Hammer Web tour. Additionally I find when I go to other Centers in the area that I am almost never able to score well with the big balls, and find myself in the Web Tour right from the get go. My Web Tour is long in the tooth, and if this is a comparable type of ball I might need to go get one before they are gone. BUT I'm torn, because I really want to see what THE ROAD looks like in the reviews. Hope to see a review of that ball next month from you or one of your cronies. Actually Angel, even though she is likely much better than I am, represents me the typical League bowler, and I would love to see her throw The Road, any chance you can make that happen?
So, did your storm contract expire, or what happened there. No judgement, it's kinda nice to see all the brand balls on one channel. Just unusual. Thankful for it though.
I declined the offer for 2024. While they were taking exceptional care of me from a support standpoint, communication and organization wasn't great, and the amount of rules and hoops I had to jump through really limited what I could do and it was costing me too much time and money to be a staffer any more so I decided to move on.
I use Jayhawk Bowling Supply's diamond dust pads mostly but they're designed more for use on a resurfacing machine. Tru cut pads or the vise pads you can get about anywhere, but you'd have to get the Jayhawk pads from Jayhawk
@@LukeRosdahl+1 on the Summit. Summit into Hy-Road OG is my go to for league. Hammer Taboo (Black Widow Vis-A-Ball) is my spare ball and bail out ball. Summit is one of the few I can stand right with and get up the back of it and then move inside and get more around it and it blends the soup really well. Hy-Road is my comfort ball for sure and when the lane is asking for it, absolutely wrecks THS. Just struggle with it on the fresh obviously, but that's what the Summit is there for.

Nationals update: 686 at the Bowlers Journal. Used a Magenta Hammer the whole time and they felt pretty walled up. Never seen that much oil inside.
Ah nice, that'll play. It looks like the play is urethane down and in, that's what I've been hearing and seeing from the limited clips at least.

That Summit rolls the same as my Forge Ember. They roll almost exactly the same.

The primal shock loves surface. But literally lane shines in the course of 2 games and starts getting angular.
V Shock you just relax and roll it, let it go and it strikes magically
Tell motive to bring back the cruel core. What a beast !!
