Irish Chorus Translation:
Go, go, go, my love
Go quietly and go peacefully
Go to the door and fly with me
May you go safely, my darling
My husband and I met and married in Scotland. We love Scotland!!!
Congratulations! All the best!
Irish music is so beautiful that even here in hot Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, we have medieval fairs with celtic music.
*In my opinion Ella Roberts has one of the most beautiful singing voices on the planet.*
I very much and very strongly second that opinion. 🎵🎶🎵
What about the whole universe Captain?
I don't want to diminish the beauty of her voice, but have you heard all of the world's female singers to make such strong claim?
the most beautiful among the ones you've heard
The title translates as “Go, my love” or “Walk, My Love.” The lyrics are actually an Irish folk song about a young woman saying farewell to her lover, who is leaving to embark on a military career. What a beautiful melody!
Thank You for the informative post.
I am SO glad it doesn't translate to still a ruin!
Thank you ❤
Very beautiful melody and a beautiful woman singing it. She sounds like a angel. I've learned how to play this song on a penny whistle. Thank you
close its more along the lines of the flight of the wild geese. Where in the treaty of Limerick some 12,000-20,000 (depending on source) soldiers of Ireland agreed to leave for military service in mainland Europe in exchange for guaranteed rights for the Irish back home after the Williamite War.
Patrick Sarsfield signed it and shortly after signing the French fleet showed up to help the Irish, although Sarsfield refused ro continue the fight despite outcry believing in honor, and believing that he had negotiated a treaty to respect the rights of the Irish people and that it would be upheld.
It never was, within weeks the British tore it up, replaced the protected rights with penal laws stripping the Irish Carholics of their land and removing every right of citizenship.
"I’ll sell my rock, I’ll sell my reel
I’ll sell my only spinning wheel
to buy my love a sword of steel"
She proclaims her willingness to virtually go broke in order to support her beloved and his new life.
I’ll dye my petticoats, I’ll dye them red
and it’s round the World I will beg for bread
until my parents would wish me dead.
The Irish brigade of France wore vivid red uniforms to show their support for the Catholic Stuarts. So she was wearing the colors that her beloved was wearing in the Irish brigade to shoe her support for him, all while having been stripped of her own citizen rights and being forced to beg.
He didn't choose to leave, he was made a permanent exile.
She was willing to give her life for freedom and love. It's a bittersweet hopeful cry that her lover will one day return, but knowing it is not likely
That's the more traditional belief on it here
I’ve been feeling homesick and thought listening to Irish music would help 😅 I LIED TO MYSELF 😭😭😭
I CRIED THE MOMENT SHE STARTED, I HAVE NEVER FELT THAT SORROW IN THIS SONG, LIKE THIS
Ireland is one of the most beautiful countries I have ever seen.
I was there 5 times and hopefully I will be there again next year...
The people are so special and friendly that you feel like home...
My respect to every single irish person.
I love your country and of course your music.
Love and hugs from Germany and stay healthy 😍😘😍
Aww we love you too!! 🇮🇪
Denke ich auch :-) !
Glad you enjoy our country. I know a few Germans living here and they are great people
Go raibh míle maith agat ❤🥰🙏😍
I was born and raised in Ireland. It is such a special country. If you haven’t been I highly encourage you to go. Not to all the cities, but to the countryside, it is the most beautiful of all, especially the Wicklow mountains and glendalough, where this was filmed. It’s magical.
Beautiful song sang by the beautiful Scots, Scotland forever in my heart
Was in Iréland back in `88. And longed back ever since!
The warmth, the hostility, the whole culture, and the country itself...
Instantly fell in love!
- And every time, i get to listen to the music, i dream back. "Fly" back to Limerick, Ennis, Belfast, Derry, Cliffs of Moher, and all the lovely memories with all them folks, i was lucky enough to meet....
Thanks for yet another reunion Ella! And the pleasure listening to Your truly gifted Voice!
Hospitality? Hostility? I guess it depends what was going on and what you did!
I have been looking for this song for YEARS. Not this specific version of it, but this song title. My dad had it on his playlist, downloaded from the internet many decades ago, and he didn't know how to spell it and neither did I, so searching went nowhere. Then I started listening to other celtic music, and now this pops up in my playlist, making me very happy :)
I love Irish celtic music! It touches your soul
Same! I want this song played at my funeral.. my Jamaican relatives are going to learn about Celtic culture by hook or by crook!☺️💚
Celtic is not Irish, it is Celtic. A culture shared by Scottish, Irish and Welsh plus some others.
She has a beautiful voice & captures the emotion of this bittersweet folk song extremely well.
@@Ryzoft I think I have some Celtic in me, according to my DNA report; I ALWAYS knew about the Irish American in me.
This woman is perfection, in all ways.
Half my family came from Sligo in the 1870's here to settle in Kearney, Nebraska. Nice to know we have some Irish roots as I've always loved the Irish people, history and music especially.
My roots lie in scotland, and holland, but this song takes me to lands I can only dream of.
I’m an Irish-Latina and I’m not deeply connected to my Mexican roots
Irish music is just pure magic and these visuals are stunning
My mother was Irish and I loved listening to her sing. She was a stunning red headed beauty ... I miss her much
My Lord she's a beautiful woman and sings like an angel. ❤
I used to sing this to my son when he was a baby.. he's 9½ now.. I fell in love with this song from Michael Flatley's Riverdance. I can't get enough of it! So much love for this version.. My parents are Jamaican, and my grandmother is only ½ Scottish, but I have always had a place in my heart for Celtic culture! I'm in tears because of how beautiful this version of this song is. It's pure and just plain lovely. 💞
Much love from some Jamaicans in Toronto, Canada 💞💖💚💖💞
Rainbow Flower 🇯🇲
There is something so magical about this song. If there ever was such a thing as elves, this is the language they would speak.
I'm so happy people are bringing this gem back
My heart broke again with the memory of watching my love walk away never to never to return. The pain was less though listening to the words of a woman letting her love walk away carried so beautifully on this ethereal voice. Thank you for helping rewrite my memory.
Tears.. I hope that love finds you again someday, in whatever form, and that it renews your hope in love 💖
0:24 Just lovely!! ❤My son speaks Irish ! 🥰🇮🇪
Siúil a Rúin was the very first song in Irish I had come across. I had been stuck on Celtic music ever since.
Same 💚 Much love from a Jamaican Canadian ☺️💖
This is just stellar! Fantastic job!
I’m such a big fan of yours!
such a beautiful voice and scenery...amazing version of Siúil a Rúin ☘
I'm finding myself listening to Irish music because of Nol 💚 and I'm enjoying the ride.
Bin 62.Bis heute habe ich nichts besseres gehört.amen❤️
Actually real people from Ireland and Scotland do talk like this it’s beautiful. My grandfather was from Scotland and when he came to visit I loved how he spoke. Such a wonderful amazing man I was blessed to meet.
What a beautiful Celtic siren singing an enchanting Gaelic song. She’s got a lovely voice along with a pretty face, flaming red long locks, and slender figure. Also love the magnificent landscapes in this video.
To both Fraser Mackenzie Production and Ella Roberts:
I don't think I can articulate just how beautiful this is. What makes Ella and Fraser Mackenzie Production different from anyone else is not just the gorgeous cinematography, voice, and instrumentation, but how they are bringing back songs long forgotten to history. As an American, with Scottish and Irish blood (with a dash of German) I cannot understand the Gaelic words, though I would love to learn it, but one doesn't need to understand the Gaelic words to grasp the meaning and emotion of the song.
Ella, keep up your splendid work. I feel that you surpass almost all of the musical superstars I know. Stay humble, for that is what separates the truly talented musicians. You remind me of what Brianna looks like in Diana Gabaldon's outlander books, even more than Sophie Skelton (she is beautiful too) from the show.
Fraser Mackenzie, keep up the superb quality. The more historical significance of the songs, the better they are. Keep that up!
I'm pretty much unable to shed tears.... But when I feel like I need to, I always find a "Siúil a Rúin" version and listen...
It's so beautiful.
Ella your voice, emotion and music touches my soul, I dont cry for many things, but I do with some of your songs. They just touch me. I just wanted you to know you have a beautiful voice
Yuck wtf are you.
Lyrics:
I wish I was on yonder hill
'Tis there I'd sit and cry my fill
Until every tear would turn a mill
Is go dté tú, mo mhuirnín, slán
Siúil, siúil, siúil a rúin
Siúil go socair agus siúil go ciúin
Siúil go doras agus éalaigh liom
Is go dté tú, mo mhuirnín, slán
I'll sell my rock, I'll sell my reel
I'll sell my only spinning wheel
To buy my love a sword of steel
Is go dté tú, mo mhuirnín, slán
Chorus
I wish, I wish, I wish in vain
I wish I had my heart again
And vainly think I'd not complain
Is go dté tú, mo mhuirnín, slán
Chorus
Siúil, siúil, siúil a rúin "Go, go, go my love"
Siúil go socar agus siúil go ciúin "Go steadily and go softly"
Siúil go doras agus éalaigh liom "Go out the door and run away with me"
Is go dté tú mo mhuirnín slán "May you go, my dear, safely"
Thank you!

Indeed, a voice from above! How Wonderful! I close my eyes and see the Beautiful green fields with rock walls on the roadway!
I am irish and I never heard anyone sing this song so well
Clannad also sang it very well. I first heard it from her and When you hear it in her version it's hard to prefer another version that slightly differs yet both a tem are enchanting. 🍀My father's grand-mother was Scot-Irish, of Patterson and McPherson lineage. 🍀🦄
Wonderful color photography and Ella looks the very image of Celtic beauty. Beautiful singing as well.

Beauty to the ears, beauty to the eyes, beauty to the soul. Thank you.
I dreamt once I would marry a celtic woman which has the voice of an angel like you and that can sing in this beautiful beautiful language for me.
We sang this in choir & it was the choir’s favorite song that year 💜
Swept away. So beautiful. I don't want this song to end.
mystical, magical, beautiful, brings tears to my eyes, and a desire to see Ireland......
Outstanding observation! I am a big fan of Lord of the Rings and 68% Irish, according to Ancestry. I clearly see the parallels between Elves and Celtic Women! I am honored to say that I have 4 daughters that are Celtic Women!! 👍👍🤓
Amusingly, Tolkien thought Gaelic was an ugly language and based Sauron's Black Speech on it 😁
The Scottish stress sounds give me the Vietnamese familiar stress sounds of the entire Vietnamese ways to learn the British systems of correct words both in Vietnam and Britain. Thank Ella of your sounds in the Scottish tongue. I apologize of any inconvenience to the UK.
You blend your beautiful voice with incredible scenery. You stand and walk through the world in incredible wardrobe choices.
How can a woman look so handsome.
Her father must be a proud man indeed
I really cried with emotion and shivered all over my body. Greetings and love from Greece❤️.
The ancient gravestones are particularly evocative.
So is the song itself of course.
Very lovely work from Ella this time.

Beautiful song from Ireland...salutes from Spain.
Its in the same tune as Wilde Rose, an old folk song from here in Germany! Greetings from the Fatherland!
Absolutely gorgeous, completely stunning... oh, and she sings marvelously as well.
Was feeling upset, this afternoon (connected with my family and the coronavirus). This song has been helping me calm down.
Watching this I imagine Ella to be Niamh singing of Oisin after his departure from Tir Na Nog back to Ireland. Such a beautiful rendition of a beautiful song.
Beautiful! Haunting! Speaks to the soul!
The red hair, the voice and the beauty...🧡
I keep in my heart all the kindness of this extraordinary people of Ireland!💚

Go Raibh Maith Agat 🙏💐🌸
Beautiful rendition of this song Ella 💚
Everything about this makes me love this song. A tear is running down my face, incredible, I am lost for words.
When they say voice of an Angel, they are talking about this girl. This music fills my soul with the mysticism and magic that surrounds us all. IT'S REAL.
Beautiful Lady! Beautiful Voice! Beautiful song!
As beautiful as the vocals in celtic woman are, this is heavenly
Like a candle burning bright and strong your voice is guiding me home. By far the best version of this song.

The first time I heard this song, it was on the album Celtic Voices in the 90s, sung by Connie Dover. I fell in love with it and its sad story.
When your video popped up I was excited. And you did not disappoint. Absolutely beautiful!
