You’ll see when he get somewhere where he’s getting the ball. He’s a 5 star plus recruit why tf even after the surgery, they were posting him and and hyping his freshman year to redshirt him and play 2 WRs who I promise you ain’t better than him
Not surprised, any 5 star player that doesn't get a decent amount of playing time their freshman year will most likely transfer. Just the age we live in. I bet there are some details behind the scenes that most people don't know about too. About half way through the season and my thought was either Hudson is really hurt or is just not jelling with the players or staff.
I think of it like this. As much as this hurts losing our 5 star (I’m on the floor rn) I think about it like this, the record was the best since ‘09, we went 6-3 in conference and our offense was top 15. The losses of Baylor and TCU stung, but the TCU game we were up and if our defense wasn’t anemic we probably come out of that game. You can say the BU and TCU games are winnable but who’s to say we wouldn’t have lost to Iowa State and OSU which both we were slated to lose. Putting up 40+ a game isn’t rational and a defense is needed. The receiver room was stacked and always reliable if bro didn’t break the depth chart at practice he’s not getting out on the field. As hard as it can be as a Tech fan at points, we can’t say this coaching staff needs to be fired when there are stats to back up this was arguably a successful season.
Great points and I can’t agree more. RC…gotta bite your tongue on this one. Read these points. This team was a hair away from 9-3 or even 10-2 without him. 9-4 to finish??? Transfers from any program possible always now
This is another example of young talent expecting to be starters or, like “recent grads” expect to be executives, rather than learn from the more experienced players. Just because a player is labeled “5 star” or receives a scholarship does NOT translate into a Starter or All-American player. Good luck at New Mexico or Tulsa!!!
@@TheBackTo12PodcastJust stating that his IMPATIENCE is going to cost him an OPPORTUNITY at Tech. I know that other “players” will make him offers; but he may be damaged goods or have an attitude problem.
You had the realist and best take on the Micah Situation. The coaches tried to take the seniority overall and the who can I take off the field game. You can’t do that with Micah Hudson. He could be at any school in America and he will go to another big time school. Coaching malpractice for not finding away to get him on the field. I mean you telling me he not good enough or don’t know the plays enough to get 20 snaps a game. That’s like 30 percent of snaps. Congratulations Texas Tech Coach you played yourself. Good luck getting another 5 star receiver. Well take him in boulder. Great podcast though
Jalon Peoples was his roommate and is also going into transfer portal...and he's a McGuire Cedar Hill guy. Was ranked as the No. 46 cornerback in the country by 247Sports. Is there a deeper issue inside this program we dont see?
You could not have said it better. Look at the 5 stars who don't work out in college at the level we expect from them. If Hudson was cashmoney he would have been like the freshmen from Alabama.
How do you know that for sure? Again, play him like 20 snaps and let people see him either succeed or fail. The hyping him up in the media by Joey and Kittley was the issue. People never got to see and wondering is a powerful thing for a fanbase
I expected it. Not sure why they kept the wraps on in for so long and limited use, but that would not set well with anybody. Just another example of Tech shooting themselves in the foot.
Tech definitely fumbled the bag with the guy. You mean to tell me the #1 player in the state isnt going to get playing time?!? Tech wont get another gem like that. No pun intended to the 2-4star athletes they have.
Soooo, he was a great recruit but regardless of stars, he’s never played a game in college. Let’s watch him next year and on. We can’t judge Micha till he’s a proven commodity. Wes welker wasn’t a 5 star. Crabtree, amendola, amaro…etc. Hell, Crab didn’t play his freshman year and became a balitnikopf winner (x2). As Casey and Levell say, if this had been a 5 star oline or dline guy…we really would be pissed, but receivers are a dime a dozen. This team needs more than just 1 guy. This TEAM did great as a unit. Was he part or both ultimately buying into the work ethic and team. Will Hammond and Behren are gonna make Coy or Caleb studs of studs next year. Tap the breaks on what we’ve never seen. Tech has been to the mountaintop with much less. Lastly, he’s not left yet. Assuming he’s gone….no crying over spilt milk cause we never saw the milk.
Who is saying Micah Hudson is the be all end all? No one! The argument that WRs are a dime a dozen is wild to me considering how many guys you’re losing on this team. Cool, now you have to go and try to hit back to back HRs in the portal at the WR position. Is it easier than most positions? Sure, is it a guarantee? No, neither was Hudson, but you feel a lot better about a guy that was in your system for a year and has his pedigree. Lastly, “no crying over spilled milk”, then why did the coaches hype up the milk all year then?
Agreed, but we have to go off of what we know right? Especially considering McGuire and Kittley repeatedly said they were going to find ways to get him involved or he’d be “an impact player week 1”
I think Chris Level and Casey Cowan has more a level headed approach. To this and just a little more doom and gloom world is ending here. No ones stopping to think that maybe he was just a freshman and wasn’t quite ready plus injury hampered him more that anyone wants to admit. I would have been more pissed if Kelly would have been a misused after being a proven commodity at the highest level. Hudson was all potential. We don’t know how his practices were his attitude during his troublesome times. Level said at CU game it was believed he might have had a stress fracture and they were going to treat him with the upmost protection to make sure he was fully healthy.
I’m not talking trash about their approach at all. They have a good show that people enjoy so no shade on that from me. That said, I think calling this video “doom and gloom” is a bit too far. I think it’s 100% fair to question the coaches and for fans to be upset. There are a lot of things people don’t know about Hudson and that’s true as you mentioned. That said, we have to take coaches at their word at some point because that’s all we have. McGuire said he’d be an impact player Week 1, Kittley said multiple times we are going to get him more involved and McGuire said they wanted to get him back for punt returns against WVU. If he had a stress fracture… why say those things specifically the punt returns against WVU aspect late in the year? The way they handled the whole situation was a malpractice imo with the information we know
Let’s say he played more and he had 25 catches for 400 yards and he was in every game he was healthy same amount as he was this year but we went 6-6 and lost because we did have Douglas, Kelly and Conyers wasn’t on the field and then he would be mad we were good enough and everyone would be saying “see I don’t blame him we suck blah blah blah”. Always gonna be an excuse. They are getting paid so I will think a player is shit for leaving and. It being loyal when they are this high paid when they leave because it will always be a reason and an excuse even if things are perfect for them personally.
I believe it has a lot to do with the new contracts that all teams have the same amount of money to spend on players which is 22 Million in the power 4 this seems like a minor league not college football anymore! He should lose his Team Mahomes NIL deal if he leaves
Pump the breaks! We have plenty of great WR! He wasn't that gifted. Dropped passes. If he was a 5 Star OL or DL then ok. He was hurt A lot. I was not impressed when he was on the field. Cowboy coe and Pay day way better bb Calm down.
It’s ok fellas, he just didn’t work out like they thought. Don’t think we will miss him much. Just breathe RC, the sky is not gonna fall. We have a stable of young talent. Obviously he didn’t have IT!!!
This is about “missing him too much” it’s about the perception of things and like it or not, perception is reality especially in recruiting Hopefully I’m wrong, but we shall see
He definitely had it, but I think this was honestly a weird high school coaching “seniority” sort of thing. No reason like RC said to shoehorn him in there when you can.

Agree with Garrett regarding McGuire’s flaw in his philosophy regarding experience over talent.
Sadly me too

There is alot stuff behind close doors that is not working out
What did we expect?
I had a feeling he would get his bag and leave. Even Mahomes paid him good. Grab some more good receivers in the portal. This is the new Era.
Also wasn’t he hurt most of the year? Micah
Give 5 star players starting jobs. Let them lose or keep position based on game performance
Was he going to start in front of Kelly? Micah came in late and never fit in. Tech can always get receivers!!
Joey tried to keep him happy with hype but he was not good enough to play or he would have played.
You could not have said it better. Look at the 5 stars who don't work out in college at the level we expect from them. If Hudson was cashmoney he would have been like the freshmen from Alabama.
Except we don’t know because we didn’t play him. At the end of the day some players play better in games than in practice. Ex) Tim Tebow!
How do you know that for sure? Again, play him like 20 snaps and let people see him either succeed or fail. The hyping him up in the media by Joey and Kittley was the issue.
