@MustangonaNinja "What up fam, Scipio here! Back at it again with another Livestream! Just got done destroying Carthage. No cap boys, I think Rome might be cooked someday. Fr." Lmao
@Willyshacklefordthat’s really stupid, I get the idea but during a fire/shipwreck nobody is thinking about steering the ship away from land, the only thing on your mind is how you are gonna survive.
If I had a nickel for every time a Norwegian ship caused a catastrophe due to the shopping cart conundrum, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
The insane thing is that the Halifax explosion was the first time in recorded history that people were treated for injuries similar to a nuclear blast. Had it not happened we wouldn't know nearly as much as we do now about the real world consciousness of nuclear warfare.
Massive exaggeration by a failed state that is desperate to act like it's relevant. The lessons learned where reinforcement of around triage and mass casualties...concepts developed decades earlier, notably around the Crimean War. Yet again, more Canadian stolen valour.
He is literally a modern day, renaissance man and needs to be studied. I volunteer as sacrifice. I think only my insanity could probably handle the brain of chat, but even then I don’t know and I mean that the most loving way possible.😂❤
@4:52 Now I don't know about y'all, but I find it VERY hard to believe they genuinely reached that conclusion, because why on earth would they possibly have thought that the crew of the Empress were turning toward the Storstad in fog thick enough that absolutely nothing could be seen, given they (the crew of the Storstad) could see the thick-ass fog all around them as well? The Empress came to a stop because that's the most logical choice to make when visibility is virtually zero. It wouldn't surprise me at all to learn the crew of the Storstad were just trying to cover themselves and apss the blame to the crew of the Empress
Our friend Mike Brady from Ocean liner designs actually has a whole video dedicated to this. I think standard procedure at the time was to keep moving slowly on about the same course as before, so you have the ability to change speed or direction to avoid a crash much easier due to the fact it took a lot of time to do anything with the engines of the era.
12:10 always remember the rule of explosives. If the people who disarm bombs, handle explosives or are transporting explosives are running in the opposite direction and telling you to GTFO, you better follow them as far as they can lead you.
@ChatHistory well it turned out to be lucky for me and the others watching this video because well we got an upload from you so I called that a win… Who says Friday the 13th can’t be lucky? Oh, that would be a good idea for a video… The best & worst things to happen on Friday the 13th or ironically lucky & the most unlucky things to happen😮 the next Friday the 13th is in November so you got some time to plan❤
My great grandfather was meant to be on The Empress of Ireland but his mother fell sick so they didn't go on the voyage. I'm alive cuz my great great grandma had a flu ; I'll be forever grateful.
My great grandfather's brother was on the Empress, survived the icy waters long enough to be rescued but died a year later leaving behind a widow and two children. He was able to retrieve his friend Chris Halliday's body and bring him home to Pierson and give testimony prior to his death.
What's scary about Lake Nyos is that it isn't the only lake that's capable of this in that region of Africa. Lake Kivu in Rwanda, a MUCH bigger lake than lake Nyos is also at risk of a limnic eruption. It is supposedly being halted by oil and gas drilling in the area, but some experts are concerned that it can actually make things worse. It's a very delicate situation over there and my simplification isn't doing the danger justice. I recommend watching RealLifeLore video on it, that's where I got this info from.
Following the blizzard at Nova Scotia, Boston was the first city to help with the relief efforts of both the blizzard and explosion. As an act of gratitude the premier of Nova Scotia gifted the mayor of Boston a Christmas tree that December. A tradition that continues to this day
Good sir, as a proud Canadian, I take offence to that statement from atop my moose. Do not compare us to the British. Instead, Canadians should always take a sip of maple syrup as they appear on screen. Chatpriest signing off!
0:36 The fact that the funnels on the Empress of Ireland look like those of the White Star Line and not the Canadian Pacific SS Co. threw me off for a moment.
There were differences that would be hard to show in this sort of animation. From what i have found though they were very similar colors there werre minor differences in the size of the black strip at the top, and both White Star and CPR would have flown a company flag, which would eventually get painted to the sides of the funnel.
The 1919 Boston Molasses Disaster is another interesting one. The locals were actually stealing molasses from the tank that ruptured prior to the event cause it had started to leak and the company had failed to replace it. Some people reported the scent of molasses lingered in the area for months after the clean up.
Good call. It's already been well covered. Plus it would be hard to rival Caitlin Doughty's "re-enactment" with molasses dumped over a little plastic "city".
@R-Cakes-R Depends on what your job is, really. The last one was definitely a shitty way to go, a real shit stain in that era’s history that can never be flushed away and has forever left a ever lasting nasty taste in the mouths of survivors for many generations of the skid mark that has made that day ever so crappy!
12:28 Glad the blue shirt dude is now a recurring character. Making good use of the wand. Unless of course he's now been killed off in that explosion, but death doesn't seem to be the end for him.
It is great to see. I just wish more people didn’t need a tragedy to come together for the greater good. But it is wholesome. This is why I don’t understand why war exists. If a comet was coming to earth to kill us all. We would probably just nuke each other instead of doing another D.A.R.T. mission. Which is sad. Take a look at a picture called the pale blue dot. i dont know if its a good thing or bad thing that i knew right away when you said effervescence that you def gonna drop a evanescence line hahah ty for the golden comedy man your hard work pays off, you got talent. !!!!
The guy in the halifax incident that could have saved his own life but chose to go back to make the transmission to tell an on coming train (i believe filled with more people or ammunition, they called it fish so it wouldn't be discovered by any spies, long story) to stop, in return knowing he would die in the explosion. This was one of the biggest explosions out of non nuclear bombs. This man saved a ton of lifes knowing he would never make it out alive by going back. But he did.. RIP (if im confusing this with somethin else my bad)
I had heard about that guy’s historic sacrifice to save more lives from the impending doom with the Halifax Explosion to save more lives with sending the transmission out to the expected train full of cargo and passengers. I think it was a telegram/ telegraph communication line that he had used. His name was Vincent Coleman and he was a train dispatcher.
Just to add on to the story of the Halifax explosion... Since the explosion only happened about 20 mins after the collision a man named Vince Coleman saved the lives of approximately 300 people. He was a train dispatcher who worked at the Richmond railway station. While people were evacuating he knew a train was on its way to the station and everyone on board would get caught in it and die. Instead of leaving with everyone he stayed back to send a telegram to stop the train. His message read " Hold up the train. Ammunition ship afire in harbour making for Pier 6 and will explode. Guess this will be my last message. Good-bye boys." With this finale act he died a Hero and as Nova Scotians we always remember to tell his story when teaching about the Halifax explosion. (Also as a side note the crew that was warning the town people of the danger only spoke french so the english could not understand the warnings making it so not all of them knew that they were in danger.)
The crew and owners of the storstad never accepted responsibility for their blatant failures, even though investigative commissions and lawsuits unequivocally declared them at fault. The ship was ultimately siezed and sold for part of the 2 million dollar judgement. The storstad people's counterclaims were of course dismissed, and their public complaining only made them seem even scummier than they already were.
Oral Stories talked of how Lake Nyos was cursed and people shouldn’t live below a certain area. They now believe the Co2 release had happened before but long before chemical understanding. So the oral traditions passed down it was dangerous and that people shouldn’t live in the low valleys.
@ChatHistory boss man I'm eating air fried chicken tenders and fries, extra crispy to give a good crunch, and my own sauce that I mix spices in to give a nice delicious kick to such a simple meal
@ChatHistoryIt was extremely tasty and super glad to see your video pop up as the first recommended thing to me as I open youtube on my big tv. Beautiful pairing all around and extremely satisfied with both my food and your video
9:35 every person from NS gets filled with joy whenever we are mentioned lmao. I live right next to a deck gun from the mont blanc that had its barrel melted and warped. it is near Albro Lake in Dartmouth, 3km from the blast
I absolutely love how this was recommended to me as the first thing after we had five hours without power. RUclips is basically telling me that I should not have freaked out so much and that there are worse things in this world.
*PANTS HEAVILY*
IT'S.... OUT!
Please subscribe so I can tell my son that I have a million subs. Thanks.
YESS
Why are your pants heavy? What's in your pockets?
Probably a load o' bricks
A real son?
Let’s go 1 million!!!!! if chat history doesn’t deserve that 1 million subscriber plaque I don’t know who does❤
4:25 so in 8 less minutes than this video that ENTIRE ship was underwater. Insane.
Imagine the panic experienced in that same timeframe
omg this must be terrible
@thori.momo100this generation would probably livefeed it...
@radupislaru8337 if ppl in the past had our tech they would've been doing the same thing
@MustangonaNinja "What up fam, Scipio here! Back at it again with another Livestream! Just got done destroying Carthage. No cap boys, I think Rome might be cooked someday. Fr." Lmao
Fun fact: all but one member of the SS Mont Blanc survived. While all but one of the SS Imo died from the explosion.
They got in trouble for that they ran away instead of stearing the ship out of the harbour
"fun fact"
If you think that is 'fun' you either need help, or locking up !
@Willyshacklefordthat’s really stupid, I get the idea but during a fire/shipwreck nobody is thinking about steering the ship away from land, the only thing on your mind is how you are gonna survive.
@julianp4787the saying “fun fact” doesn’t always mean “fun” more like a fact you might now know
17:13 that is literal nightmare fuel, being LOCKED in a burning box
ok
My favorite Canadian !
Hey bro that I trust
Reading the document is horrifying. The people who were locked in the boxcars I can't even go into detail
Welcome to Canada. That's how they think health works.
They don't do well in examinations for "Is it human".
considering the thumbnail I now know why he was scared a day ago
Still Friday the 13 here in US Central Time.
I LOVE that at 12:45 the shockwave and the explosion sfx hit the camera at the same time, it shows a real care, tremendous respect.
ikr? Amazing attention to details !
That itched my brain reeeal good
3:13 oh, ship.
followed by a subtle...clunk!
@UnchainedAmerica oh ship!!!
Oh shipsht
If I had a nickel for every time a Norwegian ship caused a catastrophe due to the shopping cart conundrum, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
I get the refrence….
Halifax explosion?
😂
how about 10 pennies, is that sufficient?
As a Norwegian, I don't know if I should laugh or be upset about our ancestors 😂

source?
@yeetman4953won’t get one. Canadians exist partially off stealing from others.
@BioHunter1990what's your source?
@BioHunter1990 What's with the Canadian hate?
11:02 "this was one emo that wouldn't be cutting across a third time" is fucking crazy holy shit
I like the captain saying "ugh get out the fckn way, god" lol 😂😂
His commentary KILLS me 😂😂😂
“It’s on ma mouth 😰 oh god. it’s in ma mouth…” 21:15
Ew ew ew ew ew ew ew....
lmao i literally LOLed i know its not funny but... i couldnt help it
6:58 Friendly reminder that his day job is being a chemical engineer
I always get hyped to throw in a science lesson during my history videos
@ChatHistorylove your vids 😄😅

I’m glad Chat hasn’t lived near Lake Nyos, so that he can breathe and inhale as much as he wants with every sentence.
17:00, Hollow Ichigo scream
Deadass heard that sound over pokemon black in the background lmao
I was going through some deep thought with this in the background and immediately went that’s ichigo
@4:52 Now I don't know about y'all, but I find it VERY hard to believe they genuinely reached that conclusion, because why on earth would they possibly have thought that the crew of the Empress were turning toward the Storstad in fog thick enough that absolutely nothing could be seen, given they (the crew of the Storstad) could see the thick-ass fog all around them as well? #1 rule in Ammo;
Least amount of people around the Least amount of explosives for the Least amount of time #IYAAYAS #IYAOYAS
0:12 in moments like this I stand still and somehow people still get confused.
Well well well
Aren't you about to enjoy how the upcoming story is about to go
I just end up walking and point to tell them where to go.
@lifewithlaura7586 that's insane behavior lol
@Helloyaaaay insane but it solves the problem. Iconic behavior. I wish for that like of instructions from people around me.
8:10 i love that small detail in the background where the Co2 gas cloud puts out the campfire
Perfectly fitting for Friday the 13th❤.
Hope you’re doing well Chat and I pray everybody else is having a wonderful evening as well. ❤
Hilariously, the Unlucky and Friday the 13th thing was unplanned.
@ChatHistory well it turned out to be lucky for me and the others watching this video because well we got an upload from you so I called that a win… Who says Friday the 13th can’t be lucky? @ChatHistory jason moment
I just realized that we had 2 in a row
It is already halfway through the 14th here in russia
My great-grandmother lost a good friend in the Empress of Ireland disaster. She was going back to England to visit family.
My great grandfather was meant to be on The Empress of Ireland but his mother fell sick so they didn't go on the voyage. I'm alive cuz my great great grandma had a flu ; I'll be forever grateful.
Thanks Grandma! 👍
My great grandfather's brother was on the Empress, survived the icy waters long enough to be rescued but died a year later leaving behind a widow and two children. He was able to retrieve his friend Chris Halliday's body and bring him home to Pierson and give testimony prior to his death.
@vau@vaudree-k6gI’d assume your great grandfather’s brother is J.F Dandy right?
@Tevxnho - Yes.
@Tevxnho - yes.

Ready for what?
I feel bad for Kendall. He was new and clearly tried everything he could to save his ship.

I feel like the Canadian characters in your videos should have boat sirens like the Brits have a car horn. Love your videos!
As a Nova Scotian I support this
Approved by a Halifax born Canadian.
No
Good sir, as a proud Canadian, I take offence to that statement from atop my moose. Do not compare us to the British.
Instead, Canadians should always take a sip of maple syrup as they appear on screen.
Chatpriest signing off!
They should have maple syrup bottles in their mouths and "stolen valour" nametags on them.
10:52 sweet liberty…
Took way too long to find a comment about that lol
Im glad someone else saw that.
0:36 The fact that the funnels on the Empress of Ireland look like those of the White Star Line and not the Canadian Pacific SS Co. threw me off for a moment.

Cheers 🍻 😂
Funny how the creator automatically assumes all Canadians are French
The 1919 Boston Molasses Disaster is another interesting one. I kinda wanted to cover it, but I've seen SO many videos about it so I tried some fresher stories
Good call. It's already been well covered.

20:00 no fu-ing way. I didn't know that about my HOMETOWN. Thanks for telling us, they don't teach that anywhere as far as I (apparently didn't) know
15:19 NOOOOO BEEER GUY
The unluckiest disaster is eating taco bell before bed.
Sounds like a choice your weak fragile guts couldn't handle
That's not bad luck, that's user error
Dreadful, but meh compared to that one time i took ambien and accidentally downed it with magnesium citrate
@67itch and? what happened next? cmon man don't leave us hanging!
or drinking litre of milk while having freshly acquired lactose intolerance
9:49 There is a band called The Longest Johns who made a song about this, it's called fire and flame. It's a good song.
video was worth the wait, but im still mad it was late
How's Canada
@Midnight112-n7nshitty
I don't think I can trust you bro....
11:27 When you said that I was thinking things and then I heard that sound😂😂😂😂😂
You saved me from boredom for the last half hour of work. Thankyou good sir
Not really work if you can watch youtube videos :S...
@R-Cakes-R Depends on what your job is, really. Some jobs are repetitive to the point where you could do it with your eyes closed, some allow for some ability to be distracted while working and many jobs would allow things like listening to something in the background, like audio books or podcasts.

21:52 and that was the last time anyone in Germany left a giant skid mark on history
13:30 Even though this was a tragedy, it’s a bit wholesome how many people came to help
Then you will understand, hopefully that we should just get along. Even with difference of opinion. I completely agree with you @Azurewithgogos
0:30 What a realistic death stare!!😅
19:27 Erfurt mentioned 🔥🔥
Also your pronounciation of Erfurt was beautiful :)
0:26 meanwhile we end up being friends for no reason
15:04 listening to this while working and looking at the harbour that was once a massive ball of fire and ice
I see that description, no wonder I felt so lucky.
Oh and btw that paper wasn't actually linked in the description
Inarguably the best Draw it History youtuber in the game, sorry Trust Me Bro :(
21:59 "big brown skid mark"
Yea No Shit
WAIT.
thats gotta be the luckiest king
You should look into the town of Tanner, AL back in 1974 during the first Super Outbreak that town was hit by two F5 tornadoes about a half hour apart from each other. Fast forward to April 27,2011 on the second Super Outbreak Tanner, AL was hit by the Hackleburg Ef-5 tornado.

12:49 ''Montblanc blew its load'' OK dude lmao
0:19 nah nah, you use your bread sticks or carrots as a lance and you joust for the right of way, like the founding fathers intended
21:32 what a shitty situation
Do “why you wouldn’t survive The Mongol Conquests”
My family and I love to watch your videos together!! Could you please do a video about Puerto Rico’s history?
2:58 the reference of the sonic thing is insane ngl and it scared me
make it a secret GATEWAY TO THE FORSAKEN REALM!
The fog fart made me laugh more than it should have.
I adore the sound effect you used for the 'deafening impact,' at 3:39
Clunk!
@11:24 is the reason why you make history fun
Just to add on to the story of the Halifax explosion...
Since the explosion only happened about 20 mins after the collision a man named Vince Coleman saved the lives of approximately 300 people. 16:01 how much is that in gumballs? #bluejay
12:32 for anyone wondering the guy in the red shirt said "C'est un bon feu" which means "it's a good fire"
I’ve never clicked so fast.. randomly found this guy and I adore it now..
glad you found the channel!
@ChatHistoryI’m 100% glad i did.. you are the man!
mom : what did you say !!?
me : ma I said "Oh Ship!" 😂😂😂
4:39 this was literally almost as bad as the titanic why does no one talk about this
I just found this channel yesterday and it's already my favorite history channel! It's hilarious and I still learn things!
Yeah, the King was 'lucky'.
King: "Will someone rid me of these warring nobles and priests?"
Engineer: "You got it."
It gives me Henry II vibes with that quote, which is fitting, because he was still alive when the Latrine Disaster happened.
@petarpoljak6918 That's who I was going for.
Dude. 😂 i was born in Halifax. And ive heard about the Halifax explosion more times than I could think to count. You by far tell it best ❤
The "le beer" was the most accurate part.
13:45 the poor guy on the stretcher was turned into a human tube of toothpaste lol 😂
15:39 waaaait a minute…. Red shirt…. Blue pants…. Hmmm
And blonde majestic hair, lore accurate bro!
3:38 - "Deafening impact". Great sound ! 😆
2:25 THE ROOSTER TEETH SNAIL!!
I believe it’s an Adventure Time reference.
DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT!
YEARS OF PLANNING RUINED!
2:52 very scary
I've been talking about the Erfurt latrine disaster FOR YEARS! I'm so glad it was included in a video.

16:22 That Star Fox 64 sound gave me feelings of nostalgia.
Wow extremely early and I just finished cooking. Perfect video for my meal
whatcha eatin'
@ChatHistory boss man I'm eating air fried chicken tenders and fries, extra crispy to give a good crunch, and my own sauce that I mix spices in to give a nice delicious kick to such a simple meal

@ChatHistoryIt was extremely tasty and super glad to see your video pop up as the first recommended thing to me as I open youtube on my big tv. Beautiful pairing all around and extremely satisfied with both my food and your video

Honestly this dude teaches me more than my teacher
9:35 every person from NS gets filled with joy whenever we are mentioned lmao. I live right next to a deck gun from the mont blanc that had its barrel melted and warped. it is near Albro Lake in Dartmouth, 3km from the blast
