      @speedkar99 Great video sir! I was curious as to how long it actually took you to get the engine out ? Also what lift point did you use on the drivers side? I'm actually thinking about tackling this job on my sons 08. The heater core busted and my son overheated the engine. I've already done the heater core and evap so far in this process.

    I've owned a car with that engine for 4 years and obsessively done research on it to be proactive (Timing Cover Leak, VVTi rattle, weak water pump etc) but this is the first time I'm ever seeing this kind of failure. Their timing chains are beefy as hell. Great video as usual!

    • @speedkar99
      @speedkar99  Год назад +1

      I opened the engine. It wasn't the chain that slipped, it's the gear's bolts that backed off, causing it to disconnect from the camshaft.

    My dad and I rebuilt the Transmission in my RX300. We dropped the subframe with the transmission, why leaving the engine in the car. It wasn't too bad. We just had jackstands and a jack. Runs and drives great now. Don't want to do that again though. That was rough. It took us almost a month due to my fibromyalgia. I can only work so long per day.

    I live in Scotland and the car models are different here compared to there, but I still enjoy watching your videos , and I find them very interesting and learn from them to. I own a skoda octavia mk2 with ea888gen2 1.8 turbo petrol engine. Here in the UK ,the government are introducing a ULEZ ( ultra low emissions zone) scheme ( I hate it ). My car is euro 5 emissions, and will comply ( at the moment). Desiel engines euro 6 or more ,petrol euro 4 or more, in order to comply with these emission zones ( at the time of writing, at the moment), in cities, including the city i live in ..
    If not compliant, then £12.50 charge. If don't pay charges, then fined. my car is compliant ( at the moment), so I'm keeping it( for now). I like it anyway. I'm getting the engine overhauled, to get rid of excessive oil consumption problems( poor oil control ring design on piston rings , so upgrading them )and upgrading the hydraulic timing chain tensioner. I've put it into a garage to do the work on it. I reckon 2nd hand petrol cars of that type will be in more demand now, and value will go up. So I reckon me investing money into getting its engine overhauled is worth it.
    ( most Desiel cars before 2015 won't comply)
    I am looking forward to more of your videos 😀👍
    ( I remember you dismantling one of these engines in one of your earlier videos... ea888gen2 engine....though it may of been the 2litre)
    ( my car has aprox 107 000 miles on odometer , it burned something like a litre of oil within 200/300 miles sometimes. Because it burned so much oil the spark plugs would fowl up and misfire after about 6 weeks of being replaced. So it was time to get the oil consumption problem fixed. If the hydraulic timing chain tensioner failed it would wreck the engine...interference fit combustion chamber. So that will need upgrading to. If I were to change my car, I'd get virtuality nothing for it in return, but they would sell it ,for the same amount of money I'd paid for it 4 and half years ago, because of the increase in demand for 2nd hand petrol ulez compliant cars. The non compliant cars will be worth virtuality nothing now. I cannot afford an electric car, or a new euro 6 or 7 car, so i will keep the car I have, for now. I really like it anyway. It is great to drive. Needs oil problems and timing chain tensioner sorting out)
    The powers that be are also introducing 15 minute cities ( 15 min prisons or ghettos where nobody is allowed to drive, and cannot leave the 15 min city without asking for permission . They introduced a blanket 20mph speed limits( which will actually increase pollution because engine is on longer, for less distance covered compared to 30 mph, so it's basically a lot of nonsense),in all built up areas. They are jacking up fuel and energy costs to cripple motorists and wage a war on motorists, humanity, to take away personal freedoms and to imprison and enslave humanity. They also want to impose a charge by mile system to rip us off even more. Only the rich will be able to afford personal transport
    The highway code has been revised and introduced stupid new regulations , to make driving unbearably difficult, to put poeple off driving. They cut funding for road repairs so that roads deteriorate to point where they wreck car suspensions and tyres. The road drainage systems are not repaired, so flooding is a serious problem now. They systematically demonise motoring and make us out to be the bad guys for driving our own cars for our own personal freedoms.
    There are allegedly protests against all of these new rules and regulations that are designed to destroy our freedoms, but unfortunately they are just a waste of time and effort. Absolutely nothing could be done to get rid of them. There are here, they are going to stay and there is nothing we can do about it. We just have to grin and bare it.
    I hope things are better where you are.

    What's the reason that the timing chain skip teeth?

      So it didn't skip teeth...the gear itself lost its bolts and was freewheeling

      @@speedkar99 when the upper neck turns all brown where the hose goes on it, its brittle and will break. slide your hose back and look carefully. typically at the 10 year mark you need to start looking closely at them. they will split and break.
