Its cool that they rode a little bit of gravel during the gravel race.
It would be great for the UCI to stay out of gravel racing.
😂😂😂😂
Lol gravel lite?
Kind of seems about as much gravel as that spring road race a little down the boot. Makes you wonder if it's maybe just an excuse to give more championships to the same people.
Wouldn't more gravel make it an XC race? Gravel is sold to masses as road with off-road capabilities.
Should have shown the battle for 4th place .. especially since it involved retired 43 yr old Valverde
Here is a link to it. They were basically neck and neck Valverde just positioned himself better making Keegan have to sprint around the long way.
ruclips.net/video/BiXCMccj2V4/видео.htmlsi=jnlvFXk8ZALmDZtF
He still races gravel. He isn't retired
Dude is doped to the gills.
I wanted to see that too! Valverde beat Keagan!
Totally agree and it's Valverde top 5 cyclist of the century.
@@davidtt8372l
What is he doing? He is getting back on his bike! What a moment! What a commentary! ☕️
This looked like a good race. Shame that it was not available in North America. These highlights were disappointing as they followed only the top three and did not manage to tell the story of the race and what happened with other racers. This coupled with 0 women's coverage I will assume that the UCI will do a better job with this disciplin next year.
I can understand your anger but gravel racing is a pretty new element and they dont have a lot of budget for 10 motorcycles and couple of helicopters. I agree with you on the poor quality of the highlights could be better.
Valverde 5th in lombardia, and 4th in gravel worlds. This guy defies aging.
I thought he retired last year.
what a legend
@@blackdog2994😂😂😂
Valverde didn’t get 5th at lombardia this yr
An old man Valverde still kicking.. wow. I have no words to say.
Great ride by Keegan Swenson. Guy is legit on any bike or surface.
Guy is legit? How old are you....12?
Slovenian cycling, something special ✌👍🤩
That American mountain biker did pretty good against all them world class roadies !
My man Keegan
Not a road race though, is it.
I can understand maybe 4th position can't be interesting in other sports or with other racers but that time was Valverde a legend of the cycling maybe the most important figure in that century i believe at least to be fair show when he arrives.
cool to see some footage of the race.... a day after... gotta work on streams. Cmon UCI
When i heard Valverde’s name, for a minute i had to double check whether this video was decades old 😅
what a day / what a race of true champions! Incredible memories
Great win and a great year for Mohoric
Last 3 race 3 slovenian winners. We are the best. Roglic, Mohorič y Pogačar 👍💪🇸🇮
Last 3 race 3 slovenian winners!! 2 milion people and we are the best. Roglic, Mohorič y Pogačar 👍💪🇸🇮
...Slovenian scientist have discovered some new magic ingredients😂😂😂
“What is he doing!? He’s getting back on the bike!”
😂😂😂
stupid commentary right there
Wow, sick highlights. Really showed the key moments!
Moho the mam-well deserved!🌟🌟⚡⚡
Bravo Mohorik :)
LOL 😂
Pretty rough highlights. Sorry UCI that was weak! Maybe have somebody commentate that at least knows who and what is going on.
And can pronounce names the way they should.
And the accusatory 'What is he DOING!?' Err, he's winning.
She referred to he as she!
What bothers me the most is: The UCI has taken over ALL bike racing. Road, BMX, Cyclo-Cross, MTB, Downhill, Gravel, etc.
Next, they'll try taking over anything with wheels: skateboarding, scooters, e-bikes. 🤨
I always thought mountain biking had its own culture. Especially downhill. But the UCI is ruining that, too!
@@endokrin7897 Merchandise sales trumps 'culture' any day bud!
Mohorick? Cmon now, even most cycling fans, no less announcers, know how to say his name
Matej Mohorič. Slovenian like Roglic y Pogačar. Last 3 race 3 slovenian winners. 👍💪🇸🇮
Thats a lot of road for a gracel race
Can you link to the women's highlights in the description?
Whack some paint on a wall and watch it dry. Double the thrill.
@@SteveNinetyskihaha😂
When is the WC for, Bike Path Cycling? And, what then for, Footpaths, Cement, Sand? Bitumen should have it's own category.
And ITT & TTT for each category too.
I like your thinking. Personally I'd love to see the red light jumping championship.
would be great if the women had this too!
Thanks to WT pros who give some notoriety to this event
Strongly wish to see Valverde!!!! Please edit the video again for senier fans!
0:17 Nice
Couldn't find a Livestream or full replay anywhere, very disappointing that less than 5minutes is all we get. Come on UCI, do better! 🤬
Some of the POV footage online shows what a hard race this was. What a shame we got 40-50k covered for men and nothing for women. Come on UCI….sort it out for 2024.
I guess we need to sit down and define what a gravel course is supposed to be, at least the UCI needs to come up with a definition. Waay too narrow, especially for the start. Disappointed for WVA, but Keegan represented well and no shame in getting outsprinted by Valverde.
That is the kind of gravel you get here in Europe. Gravel roads are that narrow and there will be a lot of asphalt.
If you want American gravel, stay in America
@@ZanziBarrosoThats exactly why it's not a gravel "world" championship. It a gravel "European" championship
Perfect timing 4 these UCI highlights 😅
Still don't see how to watch it on GCN+ on my USA feed...super bummed!
Truly terrible commentary and “highlights”
ruclips.net/video/qBBj4d9EAcE/видео.html
A Gravel podium ought to have number 4 and 5 next to it as well. Please do that for the next times.
Why?
@@ryanallen6443 love to see Valverde again!
Doesn't happen for MTB podiums either for the rainbow jersey.
Took you guys quite long to make this video :D
Literally half the clips shown were on pavement. Actual gravel events are usually 80-90% gravel. Some riders are still using road bikes with 32’s. I’m not against the UCI having a gravel world’s, I just think it should reflect what actual gravel racers are doing. This is still basically a road event with some technical bits here and there.
The 2nd chase group had wider tyres than the front group.
Haha, “highlights” is spelled wrong in the thumbnail! 😂 c’mon guys!
The commentator cant even pronounce the world champion's name properly, absolutely shameful.
Or 'Veneto'. GRATING
Was she even there or in the studio? Sounds like commentary was dubbed afterwards.
How do Slovenian's pronounce Mohoric?
it is tragic, read from the.paper. And this pseudo dramatic "what is he doing" shout, jeeeez
@@tednruth453. Ma-horich
Came for the highlights, stayed for the highlgihts
Nice highlights, but the real Gravel Championship is Dirty Kanza (unbound) - period.
I thought it was gravel worlds
Unbound us as commercial as it gets, so no.
Isn't unbound just flat straight roads?
@@gregmorrison7320no Unbound is just mud.
Phew, the hay helped his arm...thank goodness.
Matey Mohorich, that's how is pronounced..
are those road bikes?
Where do I get the Strava or komoot route details :0
I don’t get it….. in some countries age groups are rising around 175km to qualify yet the actual too elite race is 169km, something is wrong with this picture UCI?
What are defining factors to label it a gravel event ans the best in the world? Also how did the road guys qualify?
It’s a small improvement but far from the real deal… just look at how many real gravel riders didn’t bother! Now that speaks volumes… should I start naming riders?
Because that list is as long as my arm.
This highlight package was hacked together and several key parts were not included.
Also what happened to no coverage of the woman’s race?
Absolutely disgraceful that the UCI has the absolute audacity to even publish these horrible highlights and not mention that they abandoned any coverage of the women's race. What do you clowns even do?
they have a female commenting on men's, that balances it out
They put stickers on bikes
Nobody cares of woman sport. It's so Boring.
K. Swenson 😎👏🏼💪🏼
Would have been an interesting race with more technical gravel. The highlights make it seem like a boring gravel race with a lot of pavement.
worst commentary ever
Any of them actually using gravel tires this year or are they all still on wide road tires?!
Is that a Giant Propel gravel bike setup?
Is roubaix the true euro worlds gravel championship?
It’s a difficult call…do you weight it to off road technical or road- it’s a sport at its birth and it’s easy to make a course too easy (road race) or too hard (cyclocross/mtb race). I watched all the race and I thought the course definitely favoured road riders on this occasion.
How does the race favor road riders? Unless it's technical and super bumby, it just favors those with better endurance and power.
The winner crashed on a corner cause he took the corner as if it was asphalt and not dirt. That is what a road racer would do.
One difference between gravel and road is rolling resistance. On road you can draft off of other riders easier and soft pedal to save energy. On gravel, the dirt makes coasting and drafting less reliable.
Cyclocross requires dismounts or bunny hops over manmade obstacles. Gravel is technically racing on dirt roads with layers of gravel in top. Gravel roads are designed for cars, so they shouldn't be narrow single track.
If there are not continuous gravel roads to make a coursr, the course wouod have to incorporate paved sections. Since everyone rides the same roads and it's not technical, it realky just favors riders with better strength, endurance, and fueling.
Unbound fan boys gonna trash this race.
Matej Mo-HO-rič (that is mo-ho-rich), not Morick.
Good job Valverde
A world champ with 169 km and 1600 of elevation?? LOOOOOOOOOOOL
UCI is killing gravel
Valverde the Legends!!⚔️
Eslovênia se destacando novamente. Que geração, hein.
Was nice to see the live coverage, if only the women were given the same opportunity, shame
No one wants to watch it that is why. Aside from the odd folk here there like yourself.
@@SteveNinetyski there’s more of us out here than you think
Valverde !
Looks like a road race to me
Some say WVA did the race quicker than the winner, but only finished 8th.
This is a joke that it goes from the start to 75k. You clearly missed that in gravel the action is mostly in the first 50k.
Funny how people with 1x had worst problem of chaindrop. But if you think about it, it's clear why.
Strade bianchi is going to be good!!!!
It's hard to see how this discipline will assert its own identity. We have road racing for tactical, group-based racing; mountain bike racing for rough, technically challenging off-road racing; and cyclo-cross for faster-paced racing on moderately difficult off-road terrain: so what is gravel racing supposed to be?
'Technical singletrack' - that was a slightly rocky fireroad. Calm down.
This highlight reel is pretty aweful. How did the first three get away? What about the WVA battle.
Plenty of pavement in that gravel race
While the route has improved a bit, the coverage and the quality of the highlights are atrocious. Reminds me of the coverage of MTB marathon. Do better UCI.
So, after watching the highlights movie I have one question, does uci, at least know what is gravel?? LOOOOOOOOOOOL
All I see is tarmac, concrete and a little bit of hard gravel loool and a ridiculous course
A road rider won on a race predominantly ridden on road, go figure. Also, what is this commentary?
Hey UCI for future reference, there should be the same amount of this 2:10 as this 0:50 the rest should look like this 3:05. And it would be at least 50% longer.
In other words the Euro pro courses should be as hard as the American amateur courses
The strongest won, regardless of the course
Europe isn't filled with vast area's of nothing but long straight gravel roads like America is. I don't see an issue with "euro" gravel being a different thing than "American" gravel
@@Inovskis I dunno about that. Wout van Aert had mechanicals. Hard to say that anyone on the podium is stronger than he is. And that's what makes bike racing interesting, there are many variables and the strongest doesn't always win. If you want the strongest to always be the winner, running is a better sport.
@@JWH.Design The standards of the discipline were developed in America. The discipline became wildly popular in America based on those standards. The UCI took the term and claim it is the world championship of a discipline in which they're unable to meet the standards set in the community that was able to govern itself without UCI interference.
@@Inovskis that's not really how cycling works, generally the riders that are suited best for the course and make the least errors in positioning, bike handling and energy expenditure win.
This was a horrendous route.
Wout van Aert?
I'm confused: I thought Mathieu is already the world champion road cycling for this year...
Oh wait, it's gravel but with a lot of asphalt.... right! There where people enjoying this sport with as few rules as possible, then comes in UCI that sees money and comes to apply their sport ruining rules on it (except one to prevent so much hard road that a road cyclist can win). Previous gravel riders: 'so what do we do next? Old style mountainbiking? UCI, will you please stop bothering this time?'
This racing style is similar to racing in 1908. Dirt roads mixed with paved roads.
You really think "the roadies" wouldnt dominate a race with more gravel also? Delusional
I'd never heard of 'gravel' racing before, is it a gimmick or what? What's it for? How much of the course is on gravel?
Get with the times please😅
@@GdF420 Sorry but "gravel" racing sounds like a mickey mouse thing to me and not to be taken seriously..:)
Il faut que la distance soit plus courte pour évité que les pros soit tous devant.
Ils ont l'habitude des longues distances
Normalement une course gravel de haut niveau se fait sur des distances encore plus longues, celle-ci est plutôt courte à mon avis
There’s no gravel road in europe. All road are now converted to Asphalt.haha.
Come on UCI, make it 90% gravel. paris roubaix is even longer and more like gravel.hhaha
Poor commentating
Valverde.....? Way over the ideal racing age.....Is he on the Juicer? UCI should keep their eyes closer on him! It won't be the ONLY or first time!
All road racers are on the juice.
Stupid commentary wd : makes mahoric crash as rider fault
The race director allowed a steel post in the middle of a turn
Dangerous course. Rider safety first!
Weakest highlight reel ever. Pretty much didn't show any of the race other than a couple of highlights with the ultimate winner.

Actually Wout hasn’t won much this year.
It is tru , its 3 years in a row Wout have collored the tour the france with his attacks. Like I said he had a lot of bad luck like in paris roubaix .... He can not win every year 20 races. ;-) I was verry proud of his performance in the tour ! ! ! @@TheDennzio
Jumping from the start to 78km is pretty annoying..
The female commentator has the voice of a chainsaw. She needs to find other employment.
this is kind of a joke.
Not great highlights - I still wonder why the UCI in their wisdom didn't think to film/show the womens race OR make the mens race available in North America, the source and spiritul home of gravel 'racing'. Hopefully they'll do better next year.....
Is the commentary AI generated or what? My calculator would've been more convincing.
