  • Hiking the trails at Lake Eaton in Ocala National Forest is a great way to experience this beautiful place in Florida. There is a loop trail system that leads you around the Lake Eaton Sinkhole which has been forming for 10,000 years! The trails on the other side lead you to Lake Eaton which formed thousands of years ago when the bedrock and limestone beneath it collapsed. I always enjoy the nature and wildlife in this place, it is so beautiful and peaceful. Some of the wildlife you may encounter includes bears, alligators and snakes so be careful as you hike along the trails and be observant. On the way into the trailhead you pass by the Florida Trail another nice section of the area to explore as well. Thank you for watching and enjoy the adventure! I posted some helpful links below.

    I grew up falling in love with Florida's nature out there under a hardwood hammock surrounded by scrub on a different lake down the road out there. I call it my first love and the love of my life. Most people don't understand and I know you do. Florida nature is mesmerizing! Thank you so much for sharing your amazing adventures.

    that's a long way down there. be careful out there. all those leaves on the board walk - could be slippery after a rain. where there is water, there are gators -- that one was just taking a lil rest. thanks for taking us along !

    My Mother lived out in Woods and Lakes for years after our Dad passed. My brother is still staying out that way and some up in Suwannee Country. This was a real treat watching as haven’t been out Lake Eaton way in years. Sadly a lot more people haven’t been doing one if the most healthy things like hiking and walking in places built for that purpose years ago you can tell on this one for example. Had a friend who always wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail. She just passed. Never doin it. You help people a where of the need being out. I’m finally going back to Florida in a couple of months. Thanks for sharing such beauty and inspiration./educational. FT

    I was there about a month ago. The trail was very overgrown and I almost ate few spiders. 🤣 I managed to go down those stairs into the sinkhole. It was wet that morning so it was slick. I hope it gets fixed soon. I would love to return when it is in working order.

      @rockhound3.14 2 года назад

      @@RDeMarcoFam depending which trail is only 1.5 to 2miles 2.5 at the most. Recently somebody brought a bunch of wood and stuffs to fix the walkway. so on the 2mile trail as you enter it will be off on the right there's a new trail whomever had brought the material had left.. presumably a tractor and it leads bout 3.5 miles to some power poles you can follow God knows where

    Do you run into many other hikers in places like this? It looks incredible. Reminds me of Devils Millhopper up in Gainesville I believe.

      Not in this area so much it’s the path less traveled... Ocala is a big place so there are of plenty of areas you can go without having to run into other hikers.
