John, It always a special day when you take delivery of a new machine. It never gets old, no mater how many machines you own. It is a strange law of physics that all machines look smaller on the truck than when in the shop, no mater how large the machine.
Hello John I'm Harley. I'm a young machinist with about 3 years of experience ranging from manual to cnc And even fanuc m-10ia robot. I wanted to say thank you to you and many other youtubers that helped spark my interest in machining. Everyday I learn and your success pushes me to be better machinist. Again thank you
There's only one way to put it, man! This is a win!!! Not just for your business. But for your business model as a whole!!! You have proven a major point here, and I wish that many young kids watch your channel and learn and become inspired by it.
hey John. I'm so glad you are finally moving to real milling machine :). more than a year ago, I bought VMC myself. I did it after learning milling and fusion 360 basics from your videos :). so, thank you for what you do on youtube and have fun with your haas :).
Time to make some T slot covers 😉 Cheap ABS plastic. Mill it so it slides into the T slots. A couple taped holes in the plastics and a set screw will secure them in place.
Freaking OUTSTANDING!!! Finally I get to see a new machine being installed by a proud new talented owner. Its been so hard - for much of my life - seeing the USA getting outsourced, torn down, shut down, regulated out existence, you name it. What a FANTASTIC video! Totally made my day!
I have been following you since your NYC videos and this is a very big step. Congratulations and may all your future ventures reap big rewards. This is what a America needs to become dominant in the world manufacturing again this time as Micro Factories and robotics. Good luck and God Speed
Thanks for sharing! I converted my mill and lathe to CNC after finding your channel and Fusion. Never knew what was possible before! Keep changing the industry with your new machine! You're an inspiration!
Here you go, all the way from Oxnard California. I don't get the criticism but I do get that HAAS employs a lot of people in the US. The guys that I use to build many of my parts use HAAS machines of various flavors and the parts from those machines looked and worked good. Not overlooking the skill in tool path creation and part machining, in competent hands these machines can do a lot of good work.
Very congrats, I think you've earned it. Haas is a incredible company and awesome of you to buy American. Prepare to be blown away from what you are used to. I think you'll find ridged tapping will out preform thread milling in terms of speed and ease of use. Thread milling has it's uses, but glad you got ridged. Should be able to wash down that table fairly easy with the full pressure hose. Again, glad to see you're growing.
Congratulations John no one is more deserving of success thanks for all the input and help you have given us over the years. I went back and watched one of your first videos you have sure come along way.
When our Haas VMC 5 was unpacked I handed out the 5 pails of desiccant to fellow shop workers that had gun safes. They had a little moisture gauge on the side, they were all dry. From Oxnard to New York. Love the controller.
Thank you for all the videos you do John. You will enjoy the Haas. My Mini Mill was delivered in six inches of snow last December. I regularly turn to NYC CNC for inspiration.
The Riggers did a nice job. As a Rigger myself, the only thing I would have different would be to pull the truck out from under the lifted machine. Coming straight down with a load is much better than backing up with the load elevated. Good luck with your new machine.
John, in following the story of your business, this is another huge milestone. I have a feeling this isn't the last big delivery. By the way, if the hollow spot under the floor continues to be a concern for moving heavy stuff over it, it is easily fixed. A small hole
I do work at the HAAS plant.... it's a rockin place! Their yard is packed with amazing machines headed all over the world! Such great machines! Did I mention USA USA USA!
Right on!! The day has finally come!! Congrats! Can't wait to see some parts^^ When you get your multi-axis installed, I'd love to see you do a raw AR forging as in 0%.
We have a VM1 at school along with a smaller mill and lathe from HAAS. They are fantastic. Easy to use and overall great machines. You're gonna love it:)
That is a nice looking machine. Look forward to seeing the video of the tech setting the machine up, I am a service tech setting up and servicing the equipment that the company I work for makes. Congratulations on the new machine.
Congrats again John! Thanks for sharing your dream come true! I am very happy for SMW. Looking forward to all the videos you will be creating and sharing!
Finally got around to watching this and its amazing to see good riggers at work. That machine looks huge compared to the Tormachs. Looking forward to seeing your path ahead, sir. Best wishes, Tom Z
Congrats! I completely understand your enthusiasm. If it's worth any, know that you are one of the persons that has inspired me to dare try starting up my own business in machining. I mean there are so many possibilities now adays with CAD+CAM and CNC machines... it's almost just the imagination that is the limit!
Well Damn son!! Not even my machine, not anywhere near me and I am excited!!! We use Haas in college - nice machines! I think you're gonna like it - Hell I know it! Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow.
Beautiful machine, congrads dude! You'll love it. Your HFO is going to include a day of training for the new machine. I would recommend having them show you how to calibrate the probe yourself. It's not something they normally do without asking but it may save you a service call in the future.
Very cool how much it takes to just move a machine into the shop. It is going to be interesting to see how big of a learning curve it will be to go from your Tormachs to the HASS. Congratulations again on the new toy... I mean tool to grow your business's capabilities. I can't wait to see the video of the first part.
Well, I thought someone's got to find a negative!!! After 30 minutes mental strife, the best I could come up with is "Well, there goes your families possibility of finding an awsome Christmas Present for you" . Your smile is so infectious I'll just have to admit I'm a teeny bit jealous.
John, watching this was so exciting! I can only imagine how you felt. If I can ask/make a suggestion... I'd personally like to see shots of the controller, stuff like you setting up tool offsets/work offsets. I've just started (like within the past month) making parts after a couple years watching your channel and the mill I'm using has the same (or maybe 1 version older) controller as this! I've learned a LOT from your channel--specifically CAD and CAM, would love to learn some more about actually setting up the mill as that has definitely been the most difficult part for me. Congrats man!
nice man, congrats. I just got my first small manual mill and lathe a few weeks ago. Maybe someday I will be fortunate enough to be buying a new cnc machine. Can't wait to see the vm3 up and running. Thanks for your videos and inspiration.
congrats! I know you love the Tormach and you wouldnt be at this point without them but once you get a feel for this machine you are gonna find yourself reluctant to do much on the smaller units...great for prototypes or teaching but the sheer difference in capability is gonna leave your jaw on the floor.I would love to have a Tormach in the garage but I would flat kill to have that Haas and the room to use it! :)
Woohoo! :D Might think about making some inserts for that cart to hold your TTS. It works well for moving tooling between machines, but since you only have 1 with CAT40 at the moment and more than enough tool storage on the machine itself, it could be more useful for your Tormachs. Keep any transport hardware, including the red brackets, together and in storage. If you ever decide to sell the machine (even 10 years from now), you'll need them. And of course...congratulations!
Great machine, we have 2 of them at work. In October we got another Brother TC-S2DN drill tap machine, that makes 5 Brothers, 2 Haas, 11 Fadal. You'll love the Hass good machine at a good price.
I would recommend you turn on rigid tapping. I have that on both my lathe and mill and it works great. It is fast and does a great job. You can still do thread milling on bigger diameters.
Looking forward to the rest and watching it make chips! I think I like that a lot better than my X-carve, but I do love that little machine! Congrat's and thumbs up!
A quick tip since your machine will have the next gen control, get a paint marker and paint one of the drive lugs on the spindle so you can quickly orient new tools going into the tool changer. Older machines have an orient spindle button, but it was removed on the new control. :-( We have 4 Haas machines, with 4 different levels of control, so if you have any questions, I would be happy to help. We're right up the freeway in Mayfield.
John, Great video, when i have had stuff delivered I always have to remind myself i am paying someone to do the work and not get in the way. I always enjoy your enthusiasm with whatever task you are doing and the fact that you ask for input. on another note, i have a need for a couple of one off fittings that would be a great Fusion 360 CAD and machining video for the Haas. As always, Keep Up The Great WORK! ;-)
Ya both VM3 and we have one SL30. I would love to see a video covering the chip extraction. We only have the augers and depending on the material they will give us issues. On a nother note. I'm bummed you don't do any more solidworks/ Hsmwork video.
one thing you might want to invest in for video making is acoustic foam that prevents echoing in the room. it might be a little expensive depending on how much you need but will drasticly reduce echoes in the room
I thought your dog was going to claim ownership when he climbed on to the trailer. Well done for getting such an excellent machine and good luck with it!
John, Congratulations on your new machine. I can tell that you're one happy dude. I remember when you first announced that you were getting a Haas that you were going to get a 5 axis. Why did you end up going with a 3 axis?
On new machine day the trucker just looks for the guy standing at the road with a huge smile on his face!
Wow... Wow... Wow..........
Congrats John!!!
John, It always a special day when you take delivery of a new machine. It never gets old, no mater how many machines you own. It is a strange law of physics that all machines look smaller on the truck than when in the shop, no mater how large the machine.
I completely understand your excitement! And, I like the trucks as well.

That is just too cool John! Your buddy Abom is proud of you man! 👍🏻👍🏻
There's only one way to put it, man! This is a win!!! Not just for your business. But for your business model as a whole!!!
You have proven a major point here, and I wish that many young kids watch your channel and learn and become inspired by it.
that dog was so excited for the HAAS

Hey! This is the best kick ass "unboxing" video on RUclips!
Re Title it. The Unboxing of HAAS VM3.

Always good when an unloading and rigging video doesn't come with bloopers.
Look at that thing! The tool wheel is MASSIVE! Congratulations, John!
Congratulations John. Culmination of years of work to finally take possession of this baby.
Thanks for sharing! I converted my mill and lathe to CNC after finding your channel and Fusion. Never knew what was possible before! Keep changing the industry with your new machine! You're an inspiration!

It's always cool to watch riggers communicate with each other and move a piece of equipment!

I am really happy with your happiness!!! So excited to watch it ripping big chips soon!!! Congrats!!

I no the vid a bit old,but tears of joy for you.
Congrats John! Love your enthusiasm for machining and entrepreneurship as well. Can't wait to see what you will be making on it.
I could watch your videos for hours John. Awesome day. So happy for you :)
Congratulations. I think you will be happy whit the new machine.
That went well. Now you are in the big time with that machine. Quite a step up from the Tormach.
Congrats again John! Thanks for sharing your dream come true! I am very happy for SMW. Looking forward to all the videos you will be creating and sharing!
Right on! Congratulations John, I admire your hard work and your success.

I can see why you were exhausted after a full day. I was exhausted just from watching for 20 minutes. Big mix of tension and anticipation.
Well, I thought someone's got to find a negative!!!
After 30 minutes mental strife, the best I could come up with is "Well, there goes your families possibility of finding an awsome Christmas Present for you" .
Your smile is so infectious I'll just have to admit I'm a teeny bit jealous.
That's quite the addition to your shop. Nice.
John, watching this was so exciting! I can only imagine how you felt.

This looks like so much fun. Getting to put that together, get it up and running, and make some cuts.

Awesome stuff John. I'm so excited for you. Congratulations mate. Cheer, Aaron.
Exciting times! Congrats on your newest acquisition.
Good luck with your new machine. If it was mine, a typhoon would have come through just as the truck pulled up. Can't wait to see it in action.
never was, never will be into unboxing videos but this one is different - awesome! looks like someone's got his xmas present early! :)
congratulations!!! very proud moment for you!!!
@17:20 Seeing the HAAS being rolled into the shop past the Tormachs really puts into perspective how big it is.
Congratulations on your new big toy
Woohoo! :D

Im so addicted to your channel! great stuff. keep it up. you're very good on camera btw
Great packaging. Love the inclusion of a pail of dessicant
Had lunch with your Haas salesman last week, he had nothing but good things to say about your operation. Looking at a ST-30 here!
Yep, the very first machine he sold 20 years ago was a Cincinnati Arrow 1000 to us and recently a VF-2 a few years ago.
I would recommend you turn on rigid tapping. I have that on both my lathe and mill and it works great. It is fast and does a great job. You can still do thread milling on bigger diameters.
10:26 Yeah Value is the best! From my research they are a great value! SWWEEEETTTT!
Haas is pretty cool. VF-1 and TM-2 is the first cnc machines I worked. A little bit later it was VM-5, the largest monster operated myself.
You can imagine how big is it standing behind only, it is like a trailer size
Hard work is paying of bro, great job.
Looking forward to the rest and watching it make chips! I think I like that a lot better than my X-carve, but I do love that little machine! Congrat's and thumbs up!

Awesome, I cant wait for you to start using this machine. please share the setup and validation stuff they did in your shop.
When they opened the sealed bag, did you breathe in the fresh machine smell? Wait...did I just invent a new manly air freshener scent?
Two of the best manly odors: Lathe work with coolant, Two stroke oil(they even make it in candles)!
Don't forget BBQ & old school hardware store smell.
+Sketch1994 What!? you need to put a link up for that candle!
...., and petroleum and hot electronics ;)
Awesome John. Congrats ..again.
Will be a good learning curve for everyone☺
It is funny watching your videos. its not even my machine and im still getting the feeling of excitement.
congratulations on the new machine!!

Very happy for you. Have a ball with it.
Congrats John!
Congrats on that thing man you are the man!!
My congratulations for the new machine I wish you success
Very cool John, HAAS is a great company.
Very nice machine. Great weather for it!
Good its a mild winter so far....wouldn't be fun doing this in snow and colder temps.
Rock 'n Roll dude! so pumped for you. Can't wait to see some chips fly.
Hell yeah!!! Congratulations John!
Great machine! We have 2 at our shop and even though they are from 05 they are still work horses
Ya both VM3 and we have one SL30. I would love to see a video covering the chip extraction. We only have the augers and depending on the material they will give us issues.

those big machine pallets are a great source for wood timbers.
Also for your concrete voids, you can drill a hole and inject grout. .
I feel like I just got a machine! Can't wait!
I thought your dog was going to claim ownership when he climbed on to the trailer. Well done for getting such an excellent machine and good luck with it!
looking forward see it in action!
WOW that is so amazing! Congrats and I am awaiting some cool footage soon :D
Congratulations!!!!!
John,
Congratulations on your new machine. I can tell that you're one happy dude. I remember when you first announced that you were getting a Haas that you were going to get a 5 axis. Why did you end up going with a 3 axis?
very cool ! congrats ! I'm getting my new haas vf1 delivery next week, so will go through the same exact thing :)
Christmas comes early. Congrats!
Wow! Seems like yesterday you were squatting on a NY apartment floor operating a Grizzly sheet metal brake!!!
Nicely done John, and well earned.
Congratulations on the new toy John - I'm sure you will have a blast playing with it. Did you end up rigging a winch from above to handle the 5th?
