Lolth works as a patron deity for this because in one of the monster manuals there’s mention of an order of assassins who have shadow monk powers called Lolth’s Sting that work directly for the Matron Mothers in Menzoberranzan.
You don't have to give up the boots of speed to get the vest of uninhibited kushigo. simply give the boots to the sergeant, then kill her (either before releasing Nere or right after) and loot them back.
This is such a coincidence! One of my characters I’m playing right now is this concept! Definitely gonna study this one. My other character I’m doing right now is a Dracula concept (one fighter so I can do heavy armour, Druid until I can turn into a wolf, then I’m using temporary hp abilities and hp sapping abilities from warlock and illithids. (No eldritch blast) Oh and eventually unlocking the one that turns me into mist.
Raised as an assassin by a hidden Sharran cloister, Null, an orphan tempered by the strict upbringing of his superiors, always sought to prove himself. Not only to Shar. Not only to his superiors or contemporaries. But to himself. And he thought that his time had come when, at the command of the Mother Superior, he was tasked with the protection of Shadowheart, a girl with whom he'd shared a home and had admired from afar, but never spoken to. Little did he know, this mission would be more than either of them had bargained for. . . So, obviously, I'm playing this in my next playthrough along with your Mother Superior build for Shadowheart. Excellent build as always.
Shar would be one of the better deities from those in the game. Yes, she is an evil goddess, but the way her church is organized she makes the most sense.
That's surprisingly cool, im torn between making it a solo chaotic evil dark urge or making it part of my Berserker half orc party, making Astarion (planned Ascended) the ninja. BY THE WAY you can obtain kushigo torso and the speed boots easily together, you just steal them off Thinn after she gets killed by Nere (after getting the Kushigo torso)
Just thinking out loud here as I like the concept, but if you played as an Elf, you would get longsword proficiency from their racial trait and instead of 2 levels of ranger you could take 2 levels of warlock for Devils' Sight and another invocation, you'd also have Hex to replace Hunters Mark.
I wonder if you looked at Gaijin Goombah's historically accurate D&D shinobi video to make this build. Regardless, this was an amazing. A historically accurate ninja would focus on survival on top of infiltration, espionage, and assassination, but survival and doing whatever they can to get the mission done and escape is priority. I definitely will try this build for my next BG3 run. Good job as always!
This is similar to my favourite build i made. I made a character based on Marvels Nightcrawler. So Shadowmonk for Shadowstep was essential. But I also took a level in Cleric, for roleplaying reasons, as Nightcrawler is very religious. But i picked Light Domain, which you might think is the opposite of a shadow theme, but I felt it fit with the 'Christianity' of Nightcrawler. However i took Thief Rogue, instead of Ranger. That allows my guy to rush in with high movement, get his 2-3 attacks in, Misty step away, and then hide, in one turn. Or just Misty step in, attack, and misty step away. Love it!
Amazing build! I am currently plating a variation of this that focuses on statuses. I know all your content focuses on Vanilla, but i highly recommend playing around the Shadow Ninja mod, it's such a fresh take on the class and the combo with katana has kimetsu no yaiba vibes haha
This might be exactly what I'm looking for. Im on first playthrough as a half-wood elf monk ranger, but I feel like I wasn't getting the full power out of him. I'll reclass and see how this plays out
There’s a helmet in act four that allows you to see in magical darkness, in my opinion it’s better to use that helmet over the ring because there are better rings for this build, namely the ring in act two that adds 1d4 damage to both weapon and unarmed damage if the target is lightly or completely obscured, and the other ring that adds a flat 2 acid damage to all weapon attacks

Really enjoy all of your builds. I’m wondering if you’d ever consider making an early/mid game build. Seems like so many builds don’t really come online and have all the synergies until like Act 3. Is that just the limitations of D&D class progression?
It's more the downside of multiclassing than a limitation of DND. Many DND classes and subclasses are front-loaded by design, as a lot of campaigns don't reach higher levels, so you get the more interesting features earlier. But then, this makes multiclassing much more appealing as going to higher levels in some classes isn't really worth it (Rogue is a great example). It's why build making videos like mine exist. But this creates another issue. You can make these really cool combos, but you need to invest a lot of levels into them to make them work. Martial classes, for example, always want 5 levels for extra attack, so you have to either delay getting the most important feature in the game for martials or delay getting other features to make your build work. DND circumvents this issue with the players having more freedom. More classes and subclasses, some having their best features at level 1 (Hexblade), the ability to start at any level you want, and a higher level cap of 20. BG3, however, makes you start at level 1 no matter what. You only have 12 levels, and you have many fewer options for subclasses, with a lot of great features coming in at level 6 for a lot of classes. This makes it difficult to make interesting builds that use multiclassing that come online early. BG3 also adds the issue of being reliant on equipment. Since items are fixed, you have to include them in the build making process. And since all the best and equipment is in Act 3... you can see the issue. I have done it before, with my Psionic Tank that only went to level 6, my Detective which only went to level 4, and any of my single class builds which just have great natural progression (my Kirito build showcases this best). All in all, yes, it is possible, but it's a bit tricker and much less interesting from a YT perspective as it brings on even more limitations.
@@HoboZone Thank you for the awesome and detailed response. I've never played D&D or anything similar before starting BG3 but that makes a lot of sense. I also didn't even know you had a Kirito build so definitely going to watch that next.
I'm a little confused. What is a benefit of starting as Ranger, since will still get Martial Weapons proficiency on multiclass? Both classes have the same saving throw proficiencies: Strength and Dexterity. And we would get Extra Attack at overall level 5 instead of level 7.
This is a why I make a point in the video to say that you can take the levels in any order based on what you want to prioritise. Starting as a ranger is a holdover from when the build was a Gloom Stalker 5/Shadow Monk 7.
Interesting build, but I don't understand why did you dump dex. Monk's weapon attacks benefit from strength or dex, depending on what is higher. That means you still would have high attack roll and use benefits of another gloves
I explained this in the video, it's because of a few things. STR affects our athletics, meaning it will increase both our jumping distance and our ability to throw daggers (in place of shurikens). In addition, using Tavern Brawler gives this build much more power as a result, which we want as we're not hitting the highest damage die for our unarmed strikes with 6 levels of monk. You COULD go with pure dex if you want, but I feel you'd be playing a more standard monk than what I was trying to go for here. As with all my builds, you can adjust them to your liking.
I had tried something similar to this: Ranger lvl 4 (because I don't like the idea of missing out on a feat) and Monk the rest of the way. It was a pretty powerful build.
