A couple of points. The 'engine exhaust flap' controls the airfow out from the radiator, not the engine itself. The wheels for this kit are the four spoke ones you pointed out. These were standard for the Series 2 Mark Vs as well as the MkII and VI. They were used as these Tempest versions were cleared for higher weights. The pilot might be a bit small to fit the undersized (too narrow) seat, and the wing trailing edges are a bit on the thick side. The Cartograf decals Airfix use are pretty good and are now even in the Vintage Classics kits

Always nice to see some variation in kits. Open closed cockpit, different decals, always nice to see about three options, up and down landing gear. The decals are a thoughtful idea; as you mention. look forward to seeing this being built by you.

As always, I look forward to your reviews, many thanks. I have to say I'm must be getting slow in my old age. I should have been mailing my Airfix points to Models for Heros. Long story short my eldest son fought in Iraq, a young man of 19. Your troops were the first guys he met in country. He still carries a 5 pound note with the Queen facing his ID picture given to him. If there are any British service members here. Please let me say thank you.

Looks like a nice kit Matt. That recessed detail is quite fine.
Interested to see what you do with this one! 🛩

I've been enjoying using rattle cans recently, but I think i might try a different brand/product

I might try a different product for this one, perhaps another rattle can from a company, or maybe something that can be airbrushed

Hi. A couple of comments. It would be nice to have had the drop tanks and racks separate. If they were then an additional option of a AC thats dropped them, or a diorama with the erks fitting one? The Revell Tempest I made years ago had an opening (and closing of course) canopy. Is that too difficult.
The pilot was obviously mal-nourished from the depresion and then rationing! At least we have one.

I was bothered at how small the pilot figure was, and replaced him with one from the Revell pilot figure set.

The new Airfix pilot figure does look a touch small

I happen to know alot on ww2 planes, the tempest was faster than the hawker typhoon and was more of a fighter

'... this year 2023..' errr.. it's 2024 now Matt :) Great review of an often missed era. Most kits are from the world wars or jet age and skip the prop age just after the SWW.

Nice kit which definitely worth of some techniques to make more real metallic surface ( not just plain metallic). Hope for build report soon 😊

A few Tempests had their paint removed during late war to get a few knots more speed for chasing V1s and were thus bare metal, but that was pretty rare. Post-war they would have been painted with an aluminium paint, so a fairly even finish.
