Eric Carter 1998 2A state championship SHELBY 34 Tarboro 14. Look at the schools that Shelby plays in the reg. season 3A and 4A schools. Students at Shelby 898 Wallace Rose Hill 676. The TRUE DYNASTY in N.C. HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SHELBY GOLDEN LIONS.
Last time Tarboro and the only time they played against BIG SHELBY it was in the state championship game. 1998 and it was BIG SHELBY with the 34-14 win.
I would like to see NC go to 5 classifications. Small rural schools like WRH in eastern NC are always going to be at a disadvantage due to enrollment numbers. WRH has 675 students Shelby 849. That doesn't seem like much but its a huge advantage in terms of depth. The smaller schools just don't have a chance when it gets late in a game with fewer players many going both ways. With 5 classifications WRH would still be a 2A school but Shelby would more than likely be moved up to 3A. Schools with closer enrollment numbers would make for better games, just my .02 cents. Not that WRH didn't give Shelby a good game.
Its not Shelbys fault it NCHSAA. There are fewer 2A schools in the western part of NC and most have higher enrollment than the eastern nc schools. The system is just a little out of wack here in nc

The state tried that. That's why it would be 2 state champions in every class. That's not a true champion. The state got it right 1 champ in every class. Shelby plays 3a and 4a teams every year. That's what gets them ready for the playoffs. IT NEEDS TO STAY LIKE IT IS.. ONLY 1 TRUE CHAMPION IN EACH CLASS
@@aaronmcdowell2208 The subdivisions basically made NC have 1A-8A in football. That was too diluted. Going to 5A does make sense. Some 1A schools hoover around 100 students, while some have 300+. Not fair to have to compete against schools 3 times your size.
@@robski461616 it's all about the talent. Go back in history and look at BIG SHELBY'S non conference schedule. They play 3A and 4A teams EVERY year. They was a small 3A and still competitive EVERY year. State made them move down to 2A in 1997. But they still play 3A and 4A teams every year. If they can do it then ALL the other schools can do it. NO EXCUSES

Two very good programs no doubts it! Was a well fought game. But Shelby was just to much for Wallace Rose Hill.
Now the refs did miss that incompletion though

More like 7 ! There is not enough big school in Eastern NC.
I totally agree with the amount of students they should move up a classification

Shelby had more students than Wallace. A big disadvantage in football. Wallace should been in 1A not 2A.
They used to be a 1A, they moved up 3-4 years ago. Even made it to the state game their first year in 2A
