Very cool collection of fish John. Hope you have a nice Christmas! Maybe some gulp in your stocking. Or buy yourself the victron smart shunt, it really works well with the 100 ah ampere time battery.
Very cool video, was really surprised by the triple tail catch. I have seen them off shore on floating weed lines and crab pots. You had a really good day of fishing. Getting my own old town auto-pilot kayak this spring.
Hey John, as always great video! I have the same yak as you and I love it. In regards to monitoring your battery usage I use the reBel LifePO4 battery. It has a blue tooth BMS that connects to your phone. At anytime you can read the % of power remaining based on the amp hours, the voltage of each cell, battery temperature, and so much more for the techy guys. Basically, its awesome! It gives me the confidence I need when I travel long distances and helps me gauge how far I can comfortably travel against or with the tide. Keep the video coming!
Thanks for that. Someone told me about the rebel out at trumans in the fall. I'm looking it up now. Is this only for a rebel battery? I have an Amped Outdoors.
Hi I am been looking for a LifePO4 battery can you fish ~ 8 hrs with it? I have an 106 powered by minn Kota but the 100 am lead acid I can feel it starts loosing power after the first hours of fishing if I travel 2.5 miles per hr
@@hugolopez2543 I’ve been on the water for eight hours or more and I have returned with 30% battery power left. 30% battery power can give you several more hours of fishing depending on current, wind and speed. Top speed with my rebel battery on the old town auto pilot 120 kayak is 4.1 mph in perfect conditions. As John mentioned in the video, timing the tides are key to greatly increasing your battery usage time. going against a 2.5 mph current at full speed really can eat a lot of battery. However with that said I typically go out for 8 to 9 hours a day and I’ve never ran out of power yet. Launching at the right location during a desirable tide is key. Check out the website for rebel batteries. Send them an email and speak with Aric. He’s the owner of the company and a super great guy. He has spent a lot of time with me helping me to understand Lithium battery power. And, his price is extremely competitive.
Funny. I have many free hats from tackle companies, etc. and I spend $40 for these LLBean sun hats and wear them for all of my warm weather fishing. It's no fun having the dermatologist cutting pieces off of me.
The ones on the west coast are small and not very numerous, plus I spend so much of my summer doing it and I like to chase other species here. Maybe at some point.
Are you still running one 100Ahr battery. You need an ammeter, but it should be waterproof and readily available, There aren't too many places to mount it, left or right of the seat possibly. I have a question about the green thing on your bow, what's it's purpose?
FWC is supposed to open up a permit for Goliath grouper in 2022 or 23. I just hope they cahnge the regulations to something that makes a lot more sense
Do you take your starcraft down there? I took mine down to Palm Beach during Thanksgiving. I was doing some reef fishing on my last day and I caught what I thought was a blue parrotfish. Well I threw it back only to realize that it was some kind of wrasse. It looked like a blackfish but neon. Well it was a pudding wife that was about 4lbs. I learned the record is 3.8lbs. Im going back in March and hoping to move fully in Nov. Im buying a camper to live in and hopefully will find a decent construction job down there.
That's awesome. I love Elias too man. Watching you guys has elevated my game big time on inshore stuff. I did 1 drift for flounder this summer after fishing for sheepshead behind AC and whacked a 5lber in the 1st 2 min then quit 😆🤣. Mostly cause I got bombarded by the 20 boats around me after they seen me land it. That's why I don't do the inshore stuff. I like to be out and alone. I run my 16 sometimes 35 miles offshore
So a 2hr trek and then a 1hr trek... did you have a spot in mind you were going to? why not fish anywhere along that 3hr path; curious on how you select a spot? thanks!
@John Skinner Fishing just a random question for you ...how do you determine the weight of the bucktail? do you determine the weight similarly to how you do for stripers ? Thank you ✌🏻
This is exactly striper fishing. I think it's why I make the drive to do it. Plus the hits are unreal. As with all bucktail fishing, go as light as possible to stay in the strikezone, which in this case is near the bottom.
You really need to learn how to use a paddle even though your "kayak" has an electric motor. Quite easy when youre up in trees/brush or even against a pylon to one arm paddle out and fight a fish...
John please don't promote fishing in the Everglades. Let it be one of the last wild places. Fish it all you want but, leave it off the internet. As a fourth generation Everglades City boy please don't bring the internet to Sand Fly! Keep it to your self.
I appreciate your comment and respect how you feel. I give the location as "Everglades". That's an immense area. As with all of my Florida videos and any Northern videos where the location isn't well-known and obvious, I do not mention towns and never show or say where I launch. I made my first trip to this location last year. It was a weekday and more than 60 boats passed me heading out the channel over the course of the day, so this particular area is already traveled heavily by fishing skiffs and the tours in the Carolina Skiffs. I have now made three trips, and have yet to see another kayak. In total I've seen only one skiff working any shoreline within a mile of where I'm fishing. Any moderately competent guide is bringing way more attention to the area than I ever will with my occasional kayak video, and the guide clients know exactly where everything is. I'm sorry you feel as you do, but my videos are insignificant compared to the attention this area already receives, including extensive coverage in national fishing publications.
It really is the holiday season when John Skinner uploads 3 times in a week. Happy holidays everybody
The fishing in South Florida never stops!
Thanks John for another amazing video!
The more I watch, the more I want to move down there! Great video, Skinner. Wishing you and your family a Very Merry Christmas!
Great video John! Glad to see Gulp + bucktails working in South Florida
Yup. Red grouper. Nice sniper work on That tripletail.
“How can this be a bad day?” Yeah you’re telling me!!
Triple tail make a great meal. Congratulations on your first!
Whoa! At 2:05, something big exploded behind you!
Dude! Good eye 😲 can see it jump outta the water through the net, thats nuts.
Launched!
Grat video! I cracked up when you said "small goliath". LOL
Always fun, standing on a kayak fighting a fish, next to the mangroves and there’s always a bigger fish. Stay safe.
Nice patient work on the Triple Tail!
I think it was the tripletail that had the most patience. I'm surprised it didn't bolt.
Omg, you living my dream life ! New York LI, Florida..what a life !
Love some Everglades fishing
Enjoy your Christmas
Enjoyed the video 🎣
Happy holidays from my family to yours!
A very good day, i will take that any day of the week!
Good day , the triple tail was epic, you’ll find in years to come just how elusive that fish can be especially in the mangroves. 👍
That was the least spooky fish I've ever encountered. I was shocked when it ate the offering.
Good to know. Thanks!
@@andrewrollins4898 I guess I have a lot more to learn about these fish, they have always kicked my butt.
@@andrewrollins4898 thanks for the info. Much appreciated 👍
I'm honestly amazed that's 15ft. I would have never thought that area be that deep that close from the tree line.

Great. Video. I been watching your video couple year .just bought hobie kayak.
Fishing Long Island sound keep fishing thank you
That big one was dinner ! John
dude please try out the piscifun alijoz its got 33 pounds of drag, power handle, deep spool and more try it out and its cheep at like 95 bucks
Looked like a Red Grouper at the 12:20 mark.
I'm glad I saw this before Xmas John, I'm sending you a new hat...

Just subscribed . Thanks for the video! My favorite is the barracuda kayak fishing !
Welcome aboard!
Hey John any chance we could see you try and target flounder in Florida?!?! Could be very interesting!
The ones on the west coast are small and not very numerous, plus I spend so much of my summer doing it and I like to chase other species here. Maybe at some point.
No mosquitoes because of all the spraying they do. Not sure what you will find in the Glades though once the sun sets!
Beautiful Fishes!!
do you modify your hooks, I dont see you having an issue unhooking the fish. thanks for the voideos
Nothing special on these hooks, which have small barbs.
What is a good place to launch down there Great vid
Seen a big fish jumped on 2:03

Try the app fish rules for id saltwater species
FWC is supposed to open up a permit for Goliath grouper in 2022 or 23. I just hope they cahnge the regulations to something that makes a lot more sense
It's a lottery. The winner gets to buy a permit for $500 to harvest one slot fish. Amazing.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Wow! I also heard that FWC is going to allow the selling of Largemouth bass.
Did you see the giant fish jump out of water behind you at the 2:05 mark?
A ray I think.
What kind of kayak is that? Awesome footage!!!!!!!!!!
Old Town Autopilot. There's a link in the video description.
Red grouper
Was that a snowy grouper? Pretty sure it was just the white spots were not very well developed yet. What a fun trip.
I wondered the same but when I looked it up they said they're a very deep species.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing It was a Red Grouper
Thanks! I thought so by process of elimination. I thought they were normally caught farther out in the Gulf.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing My son in law caught a small one at Mantanzas inlet so you never know !

Unique area of relatively deep water, current, and rocky structure.
Have you fished for fluke in these waters?
